“#1 for a reason”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2013

One of the best meals that I have had travelling anywhere. Celebrated a wonderful girl and best buddies birthday with friends and family early November 2013. Out of the 14 dishes that were ordered there were no complaints. Little tip for the management: Add some greens to the dishes. Thanks for a wonderful evening, will definitely return.

“Great Food”

Loved this restaurant. Food was excellent and great prices. Good selection of drinks....on a side street, so you need to know where you are going.

“Dining in Varadero”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2013

We dined with another couple at Salsa Suarez 2nd week of Sept 2013, as we wanted to dine off site from our hotel. Lovely little restaurant off the main road in Varadero, Great spot for dinner or drinks and apps - Cost is extremely affordable, 4 of us full dinner, appetizers, desert and 2 bottles of wine plus tip 180$- My only suggestion would be is to cut down the menu as it is likely the biggest menu I have ever seen, and as everything is in spanish, for those that dont understand is to make suggestions/and or translate a few of the dishes. Lots of fish and pasta dishes - this is a definite return trip for us - thank you for a great experience :)

“Absolutely love the ambience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2013

I miss the classical music with the changing scenes of nature inside. But the renovations are beautiful. Service is excellent and the food is beautifully presented. Very haute cuisine! I love the touch at the end of the meal where they present you with a shot of rum mixed with honey and fruit juice.

“Sophisticated Dining in Varadero!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2013

Though we arrived without a reservation (recommended in high season due to the limited seating) and against the wishes of our taxi driver who insisted he knew a much better restaurant (which I am sure gives him a kickback), we were warmly greeted by the staff and made to feel like welcome guests at all times. The service was prompt and attentive -- perhaps a bit too attentive by our enthusiastic server, but not to the point that it was uncomfortable.

This is easily the most sophisticated paladar we have experienced in Cuba. With glasses and plates distinctively etched with the Salsa Suarez logo the inside dining area has a sleek ambiance which features a built-in wall aquarium and gorgeous wooden sideboard with an inset handwritten menu.

There was a little language problem in deciphering the menu, however the host patiently answered our questions and both my husband and I settled on tuna tapas followed by mariscos a la provinzal (12.95 CUC). The appetizer was beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and we realized we really should have ordered more from the tapas menu. We purchased a bottle of so-so Spanish white wine for 12 CUC which was a better alternative to the by-the-glass price.

The mariscos a la provinzal (mixed seafood) was a truly beautiful collection of mussels, clams, shrimp, octopus and calamari in a light broth. It was delicious, however it was a lot of protein to handle all at once without accompanying vegetables or starch. Our server offered us rice halfway through which was appreciated and I think it would have been a better dish overall if accompanied by a side of fresh pasta to soak up the nicely seasoned broth.

Our neighbouring table had lasagna and pasta dishes that looked wonderful and on our next visit I will be sampling the pasta selections.

Cappuccino was offered with a selection of different sugars and liquours brought to the table by our host and was one of the best coffees I've had in Cuba. We were offered a complimentary digestif to complete our meal and it was the perfect ending.

I would highly recommend this paladar -- it was such a welcome break from the monotony of resort buffet food.
