We arrived just after 11pm and were ushered into the entrance for tourists with no queue and a cover of 15 CUC. I did not ask if we could queue with the locals but expect this may not be an option unless you have normal pesos. The building is one big room with a stage at the front and a bar at the back. Stairs lead up to a balcony on either side and it was an interesting mix of people only a few tourists. The room had chairs and tables that were in high demand with heated arguements breaking out over seat saving. This was hillarious as one chap next to us explained that his partner had just sat on a seat with nails sticking through it into the seat however as it was the only one available they found some cardboard and kept the seat.
Spirits were 4CUC and beer 2CUC. Initially there was a large roll down projector screen at the front of the stage playing Cuban/hispanic music videos and at 12.30 I began to fear that we had paid 30CUC to sit and watch TV but we asked and were told that there would be a band just not sure when. At 1245 the band came on and were amazing and were still on as we left at 0245. I needed the bathroom and this was possibly the worst I have seen in Cuba - this includes service stops and various public toilets all over Cuba our first visit was in 1998. Of course there is no paper as is par for the course in the loos but to find every bodily fluid and solid in there was unpleasant. The volume of people and the humidity also made the room a sauna so be prepared with tissues, antibac. Best advice would be eat and drink at your hotel and then pop out at 12.30 to see a great band for an hour and the back before you need to pee.
