“2 places to swim with dolphins!”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

To help clear things up, there are 2 places to swim and interact with dolphins in varadero!

The first is the Delphinario, which is just by the Blau Hotel - I.e. you can get to it by bus or taxi. This is the lagoon based attraction, offers a show, and is the one with the slightly murky water (as it is in a lagoon!)

The other, is actually off shore, close to cayo blanco and you need a boat transfer to get to it. This is in a man made platform/enclosure in the sea, so the water here is fairly clear as it is all connected to the sea - as such small fish also swim into the enclosure. Be warned, the platform does look a little industrial (think waterworld/deep blue!)

From what I understand both places offer similar experiences. We swam with the dolphins for 30 mins in the off shore enclosure, and it truly was an unforgettable experience. Extra tips will also earn you additional experiences "not includede in the regular programme" 10 cuc for a double dolphin lift or tug for example.

The dolphins seem happy to interact with people, and also appear well looked after. Despite the place looking industrial and not having any where near the level of theming as sea world or discovery cove, the dolphin food looked good enough to eat, and the enclosures wide and deep.

Overall, with the boat transfer, open bar, and return bus included for about 97 cuc it's pretty good value for what you get.

Yes, they will take photos and try to sell them to you - but if you've just spent 100 cuc on the day, what's another 10 for a professional photo? They really are good quality photos. Some people did not want photos, and they just didn't give their hotel details, so were not bothered by the soft sell.

I think you can also combine the dolphin trip with a day in cayo blanco for a few cuc more - again if you have the time it could be worthwhile.

Hope that helps clear things up... (I was confused, so really hope this helps!)

“Cute Dolfins”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

Went to the show to watch, was very well done. Don't want to swim as the water is very dirty looking. We stayed after the show and trainer took pictures on our camera for 5CUC/person - you get to sit and pose with them, while they hug and kiss you. My partner got one very kissy one lol (forgot dolfins' names).

Excellent life experience to get... the trainers let you touch, kiss, hold and pose with the dolphins... BUT they also want to know your hotel and room number to get you to buy the pic they take of you... 10$ each... and they WILL call you

“Lagoon Dolphin Show”
Reviewed December 22, 2012

We saw the dophin show twice. Once on the way back from the Cayo Blanco catamaran trip however this visit is a short 10 minute show and not the full 30 mins show. Also we returned and did the swimming with dolphins and the full show. The lagoon is small and not on par with shows in say Tenerife or Florida but you get closer to the dolphins. The show is good and you can pay a small charge for a dolphin kiss or swim with them. If you swim two dolphins push you in the air like the trainer in the full show however you can ask the guide to let them pull you with their fins instead if you are concerned about this. Some people get bumped by the dolphins hence the waiver.
