My husband and I have enjoyed four terrific holidays at the Melia Las Americas. The first trip was on our own and the next three trips were with friends who enjoy the Melia as much as we do.

We are seasoned travellers and have had many holidays in the Caribbean over the years. We never stay at a hotel that is rated less than 4.5 stars. We have been all over the Islands, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Yes, it is true that 5 stars in Cuba may not be quite the same as 5 stars in other Countries. The Melia however, has such warmth and old world charm that any slightly worn decor is of little importance when compared to the inviting staff, impeccable cleanliness, abundant fresh food and genuinely good live-music entertainment. The Melia is adults-only and caters to those who enjoy good food, good service and good entertainment all without the sound of children to disturb the atmosphere.

The proximity of the golf course makes an early morning tee off just a quick walk away. The beach is never crowded and it is always easy to find a lounger and shade if you need it. The beach games and entertainment are good for breaking up those afternoon snoozes in the sunshine and we are looking forward to hearing the staff call for "Uncle Barry" to join in again this winter.

The buffet and theme restaurants have excellent food and service if you enjoy seafood, beef, pork, chicken, fresh veggies, excellent salads, cheeses and an abundant desert table. Those travellers who complain about the food must be hoping to find instant, pre-packaged fare which is certainly not available at the Melia.

Lunch at the outdoor beach restaurant is always good. The drinks are cold, the food is tasty the fruit plates are excellent! If you're lucky you'll be there when the wait-staff break into an impromptu salsa dance to the background music that keeps the atmosphere fun.

We could choose to book our winter holiday anywhere at all but now that we've found the Melia we don't want to go anywhere else for sunshine, beach swims, golf, lazy afternoons, good food and entertainment.

Just returned from spending our 40th anniversary at this great hotel. Beautiful location right on a lovely uncrowded beach with free sun beds and water activities. For snorkelling a short trip on a catamaran to a nearby reef is an option. Three themed restaurants were available ( the Italian was being refurbished). The gourmet was our favourite with a string quartet playing. Entertainment is good with live shows nightly and musicians of various types around the hotel at different times. All the staff are friendly and the food is good by Cuban standards. The manager makes it his business to acquaint himself with the guests and came to say goodbye. Never had that before. He did address my one small niggle, the expensive complicated wi-fi access which he said was out of his control. This seems to be the norm. All in all a very enjoyable and memorable stay. Highly recommended

We were there 5 nights, arrive Sept. 14, 2013. Overall, we had a pleasant stay, but hotel and staff need a lot of improvement. The place itself is falling apart. A lot of TLC is required to bring it up to 5 star standard it claims it is. Needs sprucing up and major general cleaning, and proper maintenance. You can tell that it was once beautiful and grand, but with a closer look you will see chips, crumbling and disintegrating especially in the bathrooms. Entertainment could be so much better. Staff are doing their best, but a professional coordinator/manager could better direct them. Food is ok, could be tastier - its not Mexico or DR, but why not?

Room Tip: Always check return flight status in case of delays or cancellation.

I've just returned from Las Americas. This was my 14th time in Cuba and second time at Las Americas. I am now planning to go back in about 4 months.

Excellent Resort, Servers, entertainers are friendly. I know the staff on first name basis. This is an Adult Resort, this makes it very comfortable for couples, friends and singles like myself. Like myself, they have many Canadians that return back to this Resort yearly.

Take my word......Go there.

My wife and I just returned last night from Melia las Americas.Overall the hotel is beautiful. The beach is amazing.
We arrived by sunwing at 11 pm and except for a small misunderstanding by the hotel our room was ready and large. We stayed in a renovated bungalow suite and it was large. We had 2 flat screen tv,s, 2 air conditioners, 2 patio doors leading out to table and chairs looking at a river pool with water fountains. The living room was as big as some we have seen in apartments and the bedroom and walk in closet were huge. Very well done and clean. The only drawback was the bed itself. Granted it was a king bed it was very hard. could not get comfortable. a mattress topper would have made a big difference.
The grounds were immaculate. everywhere you look someone was cutting, trimming or cleaningup. We never got the young mans name but out front of the hotel is a young black grounds keeper ,bald head and hard worker. Every morning he would stop us and give my wife personally made flower bouquets. made her morning everyday.
The buffet is large. never had a problem getting food from meats, to cheese,to seafood. always warm and fresh. If anyone tells you there is nothing to eat. sorry but they are 100 percent wrong.
We tried 2 special restaurants. the Acadia and la robleza. the Arcadia was amazing. professionally done. the food was out of this world. My wife is not one for seafood but everything she ate was from the ocean and she loved it. during dinner they have a live orchestra playing music, great ambiance. The robleza was nice. just different..
Drinks were everywhere. and the free pour was more than you,d expect.
We never had an issue with finding chairs on the beach or by the pools. plenty of room and you are not sitting on top of each other.
One of the nicer touches was everytime you turn around the General manager was there to either say good morning or would be standing at the buffet door to welcome you. For me that says a lot. He was even there to thank us and wish us a good flight home.
A special thank you to raynaldo and Elizabeth. You may our stay wonderful with your help from reserving the room to the birthday cake to our late checkout. I hope the GM see this and pats you on the back for a job well done.
Overall I really cannot say a bad thing about this hotel. my wife and I have travelled 10 times to different resorts in different countries and this hotel ranks in the top 2. I have no issue with recommending this hotel to anyone and we will return without question..

Room Tip: Chose a bungalow junior suite just for the room you get and the quality

We stayed at the Melia Las Americas from Sept. 8 to 15th. This was our 2nd time at this hotel....and had a fantastic time.
The staff were friendly, helpful...the food was excellent....the drinks , a lot to choose from...the property spotless...the rooms immaculate.....and we had excellent weather. We have been to many other hotels during our many trips to Cuba (24) and have decided that this will be the one.
My wife and I agree that this was the best week we have ever spent in Cuba.
Many thanks to Evelin and Yadira at the front desk. Two excellent ladies to deal with.

Room Tip: We were on the 4th floor..in room 4506. excellent location, great view and very quiet.
