Probably cheapest option in Varadero. Resort isn't posh, rooms are quite dated and the food, well, it's Cuban. On the plus side: staff is very friendly, drinks are good and you're just one step away from Cuba's best beach but yet the area is very quiet and relaxed. Would stay here again

We already stayed at this hotel in 2008 and we come back last month. Hotel has a reasonable price and we have no complaints at all regarding our 3 weeks holidays spent there: smiling, friendly and helpful staff (a big thank to Damara our housekeeping lady), decent food at buffet and good drinks at bars. We moved from our first "small" room to a bigger standard one, just ask to the reception to see more rooms availables. Room are basic but if you go to Varadero you are not supposed to spend your day in the room, a wonderfull beach /sea is just waiting for you.
You will find "different" review related to Villa Tortuga it depends on what you are expecting for: For us Villa Tortuga has a good value for money and we would go back for sure.

The rooms are poor and nasty, full of mosquitos, and the towels were incredibly dirty. The "all-included" food was all like poison: disgusting! We came from the beautiful Sol Cayo Guillermo and couldn't believe that for an higher price the service was so terribly worst. I'm sure that an hostel would be cleaner and more confortable. It's a shame, because the outside part of Villa Tortuga is not so bad and the sea is near and beautiful. But coming back to the room was a nightmare!

My husband and I have stayed in many of the hotels in Varadero as we have been visiting the resort every year since 1996 This time four of us stayed at the Villa Tortuga for two weeks chosen mainly because we had some uncomfortable times with young people mainly Canadian being drunk noisy inconsiderate. We were recommended this hotel by travel company Cuba Direct. Great beach, enjoyed the food The staff were helpful and friendly. Rooms not top of the range but all we needed. A great base for us as we visited cuban friends near Varadero. Cheaper for all inclusive than a Casa Particuar. All food and national drinks included. Good location near markets. bars and Restaureants at downtown Varadero. A slight downside noise from night entertainment. We will definately stay here again. We were very comfortable at this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the South side quieter

My husband and I decided to book an inexpensive hotel for a few days at the beach to relax after two weeks of travelling around Cuba. Considering it was all-inclusive, I guess the price was not too steep for a 3-star hotel. We did not expect it to be anything extravagant, but as soon as we entered our room (which was supposed to be with an ocean view), all we say from the first floor was a big grassy hill and the room had a distinctive moldy smell to it. We went immediately back to the reception and requested to have our room changed. We got moved to the second floor - great view, same horrible smell. AC worked fine, the room was not that clean, towel service was not always on time, but it was OK, considering that the beach was a few steps away, and the room was just to store our luggage and spend the nights. What was repulsive - is the food! It seemed that all of the tourists were tortured by it on purpose, just to see how much we can handle. All of the afternoon food was recycled for supper, plus some mayo. If you reserve to go to the restaurant, don't hold your breath - same food from the cafeteria, but with a name to it, and plated. Drinks are horrible, so your best bet is to stick with a beer. God forbid, if your friends from a different hotel stop by to meet you before going out, because they will get harassed non-stop and told that they must leave. If you are planning to spend a few days on the beach, save your money and don't stay at the all-inclusive. Although the only positive here was the beach.

Room Tip: Make sure to check you room first, and if you don't like it ask to be moved immediately.

This hotel offers a good value for money. It is quite basic, but you get what you pay for.
The staff were friendly and helpful. At first we were placed in a room with leaking AC, so we complained and we were moved to a huge oceanfront room, which really made our stay.
The food was not great, but keep in mind that this is Cuba. What is really great about this place is the beach. There are multiple places where you can lounge, the water is crystal clear and it is just very pretty and relaxing. Another advantage of this place is the location. Because it is in the beginning of Varadero it means that during excursions the bus will stop at this hotel last, so you can sleep in, and on the way back you will be the first one to be back. After a whole day of activity, this can really be a huge plus.
If you are considering going to Cuba, keep in mind that local people everywhere will probably want you to give them something. What we were asked a lot was if we had pens and soap, so if you have a stash of soaps at home, Cuba is the place where you might make someone really happy with it.

We decided to cut our expenses for our holiday by booking a cheaper hotel in Cuba, so it's not like we were expecting luxury at Villa Tortuga.
All we wanted was a resort to relax after a day of excursions, fresh up, sleep and head out on another excursion the following day.
The location of the hotel is excellent, from the resort you walk onto the beach, and the beachbar. Ideal!

My first quick view on the hotelroom wasn't too bad, again.. we weren't expecting luxury.
So we didn't mind some of the minor flaws.. I was glad to see that the airconditioner actually worked!
We left it on for a few hours whilst heading out to dinner, so the room would be nice and cool on return.
On return found out that the airconditioner leaked all over the floor! And our belongings!
Upon further inspection we noticed an absurd amount of mold surrounding the airconditioner, and within the airconditioner.
We had a closer look around the hotelroom.. there was mold in every corner of the room, the mattresses were ripped open and was full of hair and dust, the patio door didn't close, leaving the perfect opportunity for bugs..
It was late, so we decided to go to bed and sort it out with reception in the morning.
Surprisingly, all of a sudden the people at the reception didn't speak english anymore?
I was so upset that nobody made an effort to hear my out, or at least call in someone to solve the problem. So decided to take some pictures, and these I showed to the reception.
They couldn't understand english... but did know english for "You're not allowed to publish these pictures..."
After two nights I started getting really sick, unable to take in any food or fluids. I still blame the poor conditions in the room.. I spent my days shivering in bed or at the poolside.
On the seventh day I ran into a dutch tour guide, and explained what had happened.
He had a talk at the reception.. and all of a sudden we got another room? Only if we would delete the pictures.
We told them we would delete the pictures, but we didn't.. People on tripadvisor should be see what they can encounter at this resort!

The staff in this resort is corrupt, they're all smiles until you come across a problem.
Just like the death-trap next to the pool, a hole with a 3 meter fall into what seems to be the pool cleaning system... I'm surprised no children fell in there whilst playing. After someone spotted me looking down there they put up a small warning sign.

The food isn't amazing, but not too bad either, there's plenty of choice.
I personally didn't eat much of the food, but there were also plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.

I loved cuba, but unfortunately the hotel did ruin the experience for a bit.
I would very much recommend staying at another hotel, in hindsight we've seen several better hotels in the same price range!

I wil upload the pictures shortly...
