Very good proper cafe cubano, excellent pina coladas.

Roast chicken in mojo for 2, with an endless supply of sides (fries, salad, sometimes plantains, rice and my all time favorite, saucy black beans aka congris).

Throw in a dessert and your bill for 2 people... $35 CUC. Definitely my favorite place to eat proper cuban food.

This place was a "top choice" in the Cuba lonely planet so we decided to try it out as we were sick and tired of resort food. Definitely a good choice! It was probably some of the best food we had during our entire trip! I had an authentic plate of rice, stewed black beans and plantain (as I am a vegetarian) and it was all fantastic. My boyfriend had the mixed criolle platter which included the traditional dishes I tried and a bunch of different meats. He said it was delicious!
They also had a very good band play while we were enjoying lunch and although you should tip the band, they were not the kind that was going around hassling everyone for money afterwards. I think that makes you much more willing to give. And the more you give, the more they play!
It was fairly inexpensive and the atmosphere is lovely. An outdoorsy palapa style building with an old car parked inside.
Dont' miss this gem!

First recommended to us by our Hobie Cat captain on our snorkelling trip from the Paradisus. We wanted to taste 'Cuban" Ernesto said: "Esquina Cuba" Afterwards trying to remember the name, the bar man at the beach bar said: "Esquina Cuba, on the corner". Ropa Vieja, Black beans Rice, Beer, and $8 dollars a person {five of us including tip] Delighted, stuffed, and in love with Cuban Cuisine. Service was slow, no one was in a hurry, and the band made the day. and yes, there were cats, the dogs were across the street. Charming. A 'Be Daring' place, ¡Buen apetito!

This was our second trip to Varadero and we couldn't wait to get back to Esquina Cuba restaurant. The prices are reasonable, very inexpensive (dinner for $5-6, drinks $2-3) and the food is amazing, portions huge! We've had the pork and chicken dishes and you cannot pass up their rice and black beans or their fried plantains. We ate here a couple times during this trip. The staff are also very attentive. We highly recommend!

The quaintest restaurant in all of Varadero. Friendly staff, the food is very good and plenty of it. Unfortunately, ferral cats wondering in the restaurant but not bothersome. Wonderful Cuban band for lunch/dinner music. Returned a few times to enjoy this very nice restaruant.
