“Good pool, reasonable rooms and restaurant”
Reviewed February 5, 2014

Located slightly outside town the hotel has rooms located around the grounds with easy access to the pool and main buildings. Service good and helpful. Food quite acceptable and staff did best to meet specific needs. Dining room hot and stuffy so best to breakfast outside

Room Tip: Best in top room of chalets

We stayed here two nights. The room and bathroom is rather basic. Many mosquitos. Pleasant attached terrace. Food in the restaurant is bad. You can dine outside, al fresco, with a lovely view of the lights of the city - as the hotel is located on a hill (but far away from town).

It was amazing to come back to this hotel after 4 years and few months and see what I saw. It was June 27 for 3 nights and then August 23 , 2013 in the way back from a Cuban trip , and nothing to do with what I had before. Both clean, pool & room and young-improving staff including their "always smiling" young female manager, the public relation lady and their entire staff. Still lack of variety at the restaurant either at lunch or supper but the taste of the food and their workers' contagious generosity and kindness make you forget a couple of things. Learning how to do more with less might be the rule. Not agree but ... worked! I had to make sure I leave earlier for down-town because their every-night live-entertainment(even a little too loud) makes you stay all night long. They had wonderful shows and you're enjoy it surrounded by Cubans customers like you're in the city already. Too bad they don't apparently have more support, supplies and care from whoever runs this place on top. It is a wonderful hotel with an amazing location and you can "smell" the spirit of improvement, compares to others I've been in. I'll be back, as some star movie says? :)

Room Tip: Have 200 block rooms building or just a cottage far behind the pool. More quiet at night. Call a reg...

Perhaps we were fortunate that in our first room the safe fell off the wall and almost landed on my husband's foot, as this meant we were upgraded to one of the 2-storey buildings across the road overlooking the pool. Our new room was by far the largest we had in Cuba, was spotlessly clean and seemed quite new. The wardrobe had plenty of hangers, there was space around the sink to leave washbags and all the facilities worked. We had a fantastic view of Santiago (and the hotel pool) from our balcony, which was also large and had comfortable chairs and a table. The pool was huge and uncrowded, and although there was the inevitable ear-splitting noise this did stop around 6pm. Dinner and breakfast were buffet style and although by no means fine dining there was plenty of choice. The hotel was located on a hill outside Santiago which meant the air was fresher. I would have been happy to stay longer in this hotel and would rate this the best of the government-run ones we stayed in.

Room Tip: Rooms in 2-storey blocks opposite the pool are good.

We stayed for two nights during our trip around Cuba. Air conditioning noisy as usual, but beds were of better quality. Spacy rooms in small two story bungalows. Very poor breakfast - maybe due to low season as the hotel had very few guests when we were there.

This hotel was an excellent choice for us; it is perfectly situated just 5 minutes to Santiago Airport and about 3 minutes to downtown. We found it to be very clean and comfortable room with a sliding glass door to a lovely patio with chairs & table.
The pool was fabulous and well maintained with lots of lounging chairs and covered sectioned.
Our package included Breakfast & Dinner, the food could not be better with many tasty choices and lots to eat. Sometimes we had lunch at the hotel and it was also spectacular. We will be returning at the soonest possible date.

Cubanacan chain hotel, on ridge about 2 km. from Santiago de Cuba. Good view over town from restaurant. Good pool with good shade and sunbeds.
Good sized room with fully tiled shower room. A/C old fashioned on/off wall control but worked OK. Old fashioned TV with CNN. Digital safe 2 pesos/day. Phone, no hairdrier, fridge/minibar. Some noise from adjacent room as there was an interconnecting door. Some road noise from lorries on adjacent hill. Noise from disco until about 2 am, then corridor noise until about 3 am. Perhaps the management needs to decide whether they are running a hotel for the guests or entertainment for the local people who paid 6 peso per person for the disco round the pool.
Evening meal OK. Breakfast poor on first day. The fried eggs were past redemption. Better meal
on second day and better breakfast with eggs/omletts cooked to order.
