Keep in mind this is not a five star resort. We knew this before we left, so I wasn't expecting much. I was surprised. Brand new expresso machine at the pool bar on the carisol side. new balcony chairs and table, newer flat screen tvs, and new air conditioners going in here and there. So our bedspread didnt match our curtains and there wasnt fancy wall decor, but it was sleepable and spotlessly clean. Our bedspeads where taken for washing and replaced on the same day. And they where for single beds not doubles, but it didnt matter. We have been to 5 stars that are not as clean .The beds are NOT pillow tops but not sway backs either. But sleepable.
Food was good they even had ketchup and mustard. Homemade pizza and spagetti.
Bathrooms are all tiled with a huge walk in shower and newer toilet. Sink counter was still old but there was a 110 outlet above the sink. I don't know if all the rooms have 110 oulets in the bathroom but ours did and it was labeled.I didnt need the converter.
You do need water shoes as the beach was devestated by hurricane sandy. They are still cleaning up here and there. But it was fun. Paddle boats and snorkeling right on the beach. Lots of coral and shells to find on beach walks. Around past the los coralis side there is a beautiful little bay for swimming, with a sand beach. It is public and we felt very safe. And you will meet the fisherman, he can get you a great deal on cigars.
NO SLUSHY MACHINE on either side. All drinks where good, Wine was better than expected.
We got to look in the beach bungalows that they are still redoing. They have kingsize beds. Our room had 2 doubles and the room next to ours had 3 singles.
The resort has pets. lol not really..There are a few abandoned little friendly dogs that hang around outside the buffet. Everyone feeds them. .And we named them too. It was fun watching the abandoned horses and donkeys walking around outside our resort on the side of the road.
The staff are wonderful. Just ask .
Our bathroom floor flooded from our shower. Our friendly maid morena cleaned it up asap and it was fixed next day. She told us to alert the front desk. We did. It was done.
On the los coralis side there is alot of 4 and 6 six week vacationers, all older people. Alot from toronto and montreal.
This is not a party resort though they do have a beach disco under a tent as the original one blew away with sandy. You can get a nice fast food lunch there too. and pick up a few trinkets for the kids.
The cheapest swim with the dolphins excusion I have ever heard of.
For the price we paid it was a gem. And we now understand why people go there to escape winter, year after year. We had a fun relaxing week and loved the comedy and aquaic shows the best. We will return and spend another week with zio, who goes there a couple of times a year. Every year!

Room Tip: The sunwing rooms have nicer rattan funiture than the hola sun rooms. But the rest of room is the sam...

Just returned from Carisol side of the hotel.

First - things you need to know
- Try to find out before you leave whether you are on the Carisol or Los Corales side. This was a frustration and confusion when we arrived because no-one had been told in advance and the hotel didn't seem to know how to cope. We were simply told to wait so we checked with the tour guide and he said to get back in the bus because we were probably at the other side.
- Money: change it as soon as you can because the hotel doesn't always have any.
- Our tour guide (Hola Sun) told us that because they are located within a national park, we would have to pay cash for excursions because they did not have reliable internet service.
- Water shoes are a necessity not an option because of the coral and grasses
- Take an empty water bottle. Although there is a fridge in the room they don't supply any drinks but you can fill your bottle at the bars.

Resort looks very nice. Grounds nicely kept. Beautiful pool and large kids pool. The only issue would be for someone with a physical handicap (and there were several there) because you are constantly going up or down a couple of steps and there isn't always a ramp.
Our room looked down the length of the pool towards the dining room and was very nice except for a lack of drawer storage for clothes. We were one of the lucky ones, although the bathroom was clean and we had lots of hot water, several times there was an overwhelming smell of sewage emanating from the room so that we had to open both the outside door and balcony door to air the place out.
The dining room was a complete disaster. The service (unless you are a repeater) was pathetic. Many meals we had to go and find our own cutlery and glasses. Often food ran out and you had to wait 15 minutes until they replenished it. We have been to Cuba several times and I have never complained about food until this time. There was very little choice and nothing was labelled so if you have allergies, be careful. There is a pizza restaurant for lunch if you are prepared to wait over an hour for a pizza. When it does come it's very good. Didn't try the spaghetti but how can you go wrong with that? The thing that bothered me was that although we were in Cuba which grows great coffee, they don't actually serve any. There is just one of those multi-purpse machines which was constantly breaking down.
Bars: How can a bar run out of Coke, vodka, and be completely unable to make Pina Coladas, Bahama Mamas or mojitos at an all-inclusive? It happened on our second day there! Bar staff were generally friendly and you can get good cappucino/espresso at the pool bar.
Beach: If you like to take long walks on the beach this isn't the place for you. There isn't much and there are no palapas, just a grove of trees that give dappled protection from the sun. Most of the beach is unusable due to the coral thrown up by Sandy but we didn't see any effort to clean it up. Most of the palapa stems are lying on the beach or in the water and it wouldn't be a huge job to rebuild them. The water is beautiful. It's crystal clear and warm. At low tide it's like a bath! There is a lot of grass and we saw a lot of sea urchins hiding in the grasses when we walked out at low tide so don't go on there without shoes. There is a great snorkeling spot about 30' off the beach and you can see lots of lovely fish there. You can get equipment at the water sport tent.
We did see a couple of what someone else referred to as tarantula-like spiders but as long as you respect them there's no problem. They seemed to like the protection of the walls around the pool.
All in all it's got the potential of being a good place but it needs serious work.

Room Tip: The 300 block has a great view down the length of the pool.

Weather was great and the sea water was warm. My wife enjoyed snorkelling right off the beach but the beachfront is very rough and water shoes are a must. If you enjoy walking the beach this is not the place to go.
The price was right but you get what you pay for. This was our third time in Cuba and had this been our first it would have been our last. Our room was fine, air conditioner worked great and we always had plenty of hot and cold water at all times. The biggest frustration was the meals. The food selection was very limited and repetitive. They frequently ran out of bread at breakfast, scarce dessert at lunch and dinner and the coffee machine broke frequently.
It was hard to get cups for the coffee when the machine was working and they were always running out of glasses for juice. Plates sometimes were scarce also.
Our maid was great but the serving staff did not seem organized. It was often a long wait to get a table cleaned after previous guests and cutlery was slow coming. Guests often went to other tables to get knives and spoons.
The pizzas were good in that restaurant but don't expect to be served quickly. On two occasions we waited almost half an hour before our order was even taken.
On different occasions the bars ran out of rum, coke and vodka.
The biggest turn off was the condition of the public washrooms in the lobby area. There did not seem to be any maintenance staff available to fix issues when sewage was flooding out onto the floor.
The resort has great potential but needs some immediate attention to service and maintenance upkeep before it is too late.

Room Tip: Try second floor in buildings

This was our 1st time at Club Amigo Carisol but our 12th time to Cuba. It is a beautiful resort with very clean large rooms. The food is typically cuban - a little bland but there is always a lot to eat. The staff is very friendly and courteous - of course tipping does help a bit. We were in the 200 block upstairs and it was very quiet but a bit of walking. Watch out for cracked/loose floor tiles on the stairs. We did meet a couple of big black hairy spiders but not in our rooms. The room safe was free. The trip to the Tropicana was well worth the price. The power outages were few and short. The resort was well worth the money.

First time in Cuba and after reading the bad reviews we were a little worry, but we do not regret we took that last minute deal of $512/person all inclusive; for a 3 stars resort is was amazing, it could be 4 or 4.5 very easy.

First of all rooms are underrated, we were in a 4.5stars resort in Dominican last year and room was not to much different, but food was more diverse in Dominican; so food is good and enough; people very nice, but you mast have change in $1 to tip them all if you can, because they are really poor, only $10/month income; the setting of the resort is fantastic surrounded by mountains and the water is crystal clear , but you need water shoes because the sand of the shore is not so fine; the only complain would be about a couple of dogs waiting for food at lunch and dinner time and the little birds flying on the ceiling of the restaurant, but if you ignore this then everything else is EXCELLENT.

Room Tip: We had our room with shade on the terrace all day and we were happy because during the day was over...

Well,I don't know how to start. The beauty and the beast kind of story. We got home last night, perfect wheather , resort very clean, you don't have to pay for your safety box extra, it was included , no spiders in our room but we heard story's ,we got the super saver room witch is the same size room with the regular room, we just got a extra bed in our room, but. I didn't care ,we didn't go there to spend our time inside the room. Very safe, staff kind of like alcohol ,but don't we all!! Ha-ha .Now to the beast story,no bread for breakfast , I wouldn't say food was bad ,because there was no food ,and we are no piki people ,and the night before we left ,there was no power from 8.30 pm til 10.am,imagine by 30@C ,we didn't like it ,but we managed , very bad for the young couple with the little baby next to us,imagine your baby is crying and there is so dark, you can do nothing for her or him.Take a flashlight with you. And than again, if you pay 900$ for two ,for a week tax included ,don't expect to mutch. Was is worted ...for that money yes,but not more.I may have grammar mistakes, sorry , English is not my first language .Have fun if you go there,,

Room Tip: Choose the super saver, you saving money,if you just go there to sleep .
