“A lot of beggars”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

Nice to visit with some impressive monuments.
A lot of beggars that are waiting for you from the moment you step of the bus.

“An imposing monument”
Reviewed March 26, 2012

The square was undergoing a massive rebuilding effort to construct an alter for Pope Benedictand all the roads the pope would use including the road from the airport had new asphalt. In a country where ashphalt seemed to be scarce no expense was being missed to impress the Pontiff. The square in its self is very impressive with the large iron work sculpture dedicated to the rebels who lost therir lives fighting to free Cuba. Nearby to the square was the barracks that Fidel Castro and his brother Raul and Che Guverra attacked in 1953 and failed to take with the loss of 60 lives and Castro's imprisonment in 1953. It was here in the rugged Sierra Madre mountains that Fiedel's revolution was born and the statue or sculpture is dedicated to the ordinary people who sacrificed their lives to further this cause.

“Nothing special at the time we were there”
Reviewed March 22, 2012

When we were there the plaza was closed because they were expecting the pope one of these day´s, so there was not much to see at that time

“Obligatory”
Reviewed February 18, 2012

Everyone is taken there. Ignore the beggars, they run from the hotel to the square faster than the bus!
