The reception was professionally handled and we were soon into a clean, spacious bedroom, with all the necessary facilities. We saw little of an attendant but the room was well maintained and a same day laundry service was executed - without the extra cost specified in the 'Laundry list'.

The dinner buffet was good and the choices varied each night. There was also a very good spread for breakfast. Staff were on hand to attend to other needs.

Money changing bank a great convenience.

The gym and pool facilities could not be faulted and we took full advantage of the 'happy hours' - poolside 6PM to 7PM and entertainment bar up to 8 PM - as Cuba's cocktails are hard to beat!!!.

Nicely situated, not too near the city centre, this hotel gets our recommendation

My wife and I stayed at the Melia Santiago the week of October 10th to 17th 2011. Previously we had spent one night there in May 2011 after having to stay an extra day in the country due to a flight delay, so we had a good idea of what to expect from the hotel.

We chose this option due to it's location in the city, and because my wife required a reliable internet offering to complete school assignments.

If you enjoy a more luxurious and modern setting for your Cuban city vacation this is your best option for Santiago.

The location, service, food, rooms, staff, cleanliness are all of very high standard. We enjoyed the pool area in the morning to cool off and relax. The views are spectacular from higher levels, overlooking the city and mountains. Rooms are spacious and clean, comfortable beds as well. Access to money exchange, stores, internet, etc are all on site and available with good hours.

Staff overall were very friendly and helpful, from front desk to the maids. Always pleasant and attentive to the needs of the guests. Fernando at the reception ensured to answer any question I had and help us with our check out. Thank you again.

We ate at the breakfast buffet each morning and the offerings were numerous and well prepared. It would be hard for even a fussy individual to find fault with the food options and quality in my opinion. On one occasion we also ate at the pool snack bar and enjoyed the service. Our meal was not quite well done to our liking and they promptly prepared a new offering which I appreciated.

From the hotel, you can easily navigate around the city, either by walking or taxi depending on how much exercise you enjoy.

Though I usually prefer hotels or casa's that are more rustic and authentic Cuban, the Melia Santiago was a great experience and solid choice.

Room Tip: Request your selection before you arrive.

I stayed a couple of days in hotel Melia Santiago de Cuba as other hotels in the region were fully booked in the last week of July due the carnival. I have to admit that the quality of this hotel is outstanding. The breakfast is buffet but offers a great variety. The room maid did a great job and the pool, bar, surrounding,.. everything is clean. But the ambient is mass production. The Melia Santiago de Cuba appears to me as a heartless factory with camera's and lurkers everywhere. It's a jail. Not to keep tourists inside (in fact that does it too; most hotels and resorts in Cuba do), but to keep Cubans out. Of course: when someone isn't a guest i understand that he isn't allowed to enter the room. But my Cuban friends weren't welcome in the foyer when I left them unattended for a minute. I have to tell that I'm used to hotels no larger than Casa Granda. So maybe I'm the problem. Oops.., Mr. Morcillo, before I forget: I took two HR-towels. Don't blame the maid. I'll bring them back next time.

Very good choice for someone who don´t want to play it sure. Everything works nice and smooth, as anywhere in this category hotels. Poolside and gym were very good, excellent housekeping, nice staff. Slow and expensive internet connections are not necessary the hotel´s fault, maybe it is somebody else to blame. Excellent breakfast and nice just opened italian. Bout the dinner wasn´t so pleased. Stayed there eight nights in September 2011.

Dear Mr./Mrs.

Thanks a lot for your comments and valuable assessments of our facility. This is truly the best way to get the clients perception of our services and a great opportunity to improve them.

There are details you point out that we were already aware, like the internet connection speed which at present is not so fast. But we believe that very soon and due to the cable from Venezuela we will solve this situation.

Regarding dinner we will make sure it is worth of our category and at par with other really nice features of our hotel that you mention like its excellent housekeeping, breakfast, pool and Gym.

Wishing the best and hoping you let us know when a future visit to make it unforgettable,

Stayed at the Melia for several nights in September. The hotel is new and modern. The facility is very well run and the surroundings are quite nice. They have spent a good deal of time making sure the decor and artwork are pleasing, modern and soothing. The restaurant in which I only ate buffet breakfast was outstanding. The rooms are well appointed and clean. A nice place to stay while on that part of the island.
