“Fantastic happy hour (6-7pm) where cocktails are 2-for-1. Sink mojitos from the highest bar in Santiago!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2012

Wonderful people-watching experience here. Santiago rapidly gets fatiguing and we'd run out of museums before going to the airport. It was a very hot day so we decided to flake out and go to a bar, not least because we got fed up of the relentless jineteros hussling you in the square. Initially we just opted for the bar at the lowest terrace of the hotel, but when we saw it had a rooftop restaurant and bar we decided to make the climb in order to get a better view of the cathedral and square.

I am so glad we did. We got up there to find it was happy hour from 6-7pm where the already reasonably priced cocktails were 2 for 1. So two very happy people effectively enjoyed sipping 1 CUC mojitos (very well made ones, too) whilst watching the sun dip down over Santiago. Excellent refreshment, and a band of musicians turned up too and played lovely samba and rumba. The bar staff have a wicked sense of humour. One of our nicest holiday experiences in Cuba.

NB: Definitely not wheelchair friendly. It's a hotel where the "ground floor" rooms are already up one flight of stairs, and their lift is broken so if you want to get to the rooftop bar, the only way is the staircase up.

“Great place for lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2012

Sit on the balcony and watch life go by, and if you're lucky a great band will start to play and people will start to dance! We got trapped here by the rain - torrential downpour - but I think it was the best place to be. Good prawn kebab and if you're hankering for chips, they're here.

“Hotel Casa Granda terrace restaurant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2012

The Casa Granda is a venerable hotel dating back to the early twentieth century. Its location is superb - right overlooking the city's main square. The Terrace Bar and Restaurant offers wonderful people watching opportunities; the drinks are decent and very cheap, and the food (mostly simple snacks) is cheap and acceptable. Just round the corner is the Casa de la Trova, one of Santiago's best spots for music and dancing
