Wonderful people-watching experience here. Santiago rapidly gets fatiguing and we'd run out of museums before going to the airport. It was a very hot day so we decided to flake out and go to a bar, not least because we got fed up of the relentless jineteros hussling you in the square. Initially we just opted for the bar at the lowest terrace of the hotel, but when we saw it had a rooftop restaurant and bar we decided to make the climb in order to get a better view of the cathedral and square.
I am so glad we did. We got up there to find it was happy hour from 6-7pm where the already reasonably priced cocktails were 2 for 1. So two very happy people effectively enjoyed sipping 1 CUC mojitos (very well made ones, too) whilst watching the sun dip down over Santiago. Excellent refreshment, and a band of musicians turned up too and played lovely samba and rumba. The bar staff have a wicked sense of humour. One of our nicest holiday experiences in Cuba.
NB: Definitely not wheelchair friendly. It's a hotel where the "ground floor" rooms are already up one flight of stairs, and their lift is broken so if you want to get to the rooftop bar, the only way is the staircase up.
