We visited the castle. But we're unable to in. Rather we refused to go in. The fee was 4cu we only had 20's, and the gate keeper had no change?? Right. I'm sure she was hoping we would just give her a 20.
The outside of the castle have spectacular views so I don't feel like I missed much.

Worth going to if you have the chance but shouldn't be top of your to-do list.

There is an interesting history and there is some good artwork and displays, but the Castillo is fairly small and doesn't take long to go round. The views however are quite stunning and if you have a coupld of hours spare then worth going to see - we went as part of a half day vintage car trip also taking in Granma Island and if you combine everything it makes for a good trip

We hired a taxi to take us from central Santiago de Cuba, it's about 10km and we paid CUC$25 for a the round trip; our driver waited for us and we were there about an hour and a half. We arrived soon after it opened (9.00) and it was really quiet. It's free to go in. The views are stunning and there's a fair amount to see. Some information is in English but if you want to read everything in the exhibition rooms you' ll need to know Spanish. The icing on the cake for us was a female vocal group 'Vocal Vidas' who were performing in the little chapel. They were amazing. Allow over an hour there if you want to have time for a drink in the bar/ restaurant which has brilliant views.

While vacationing in Club Amigo Corales los Carizones feb 13/27/2019 we took a day tour to Santiago City from 8;30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and we visited el Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca overlooking the Bay of Santiago. The Tour cost .70 Cup or $100.00 Canadian per person. The castle sits on top of a mountain top overlooking the Bay. Very large with many Spanish cannons. In the bay were 40 Spanish ships while out of the bay in the ocean were 400 U.S. ships. As the Spanish ships came out of the bay were all sunk by the Americans. The bay is a treasure trove of sunken ships.Later used as a prison . The area was famous for Pirates and Buccaneers as Sir Henry Morgan.Great view of the Carribbean Ocean and the Bay. Has a Restaurant on top, and many vendors to shop and Bars. Great place to visit ,take in the view and scenery.
