“Old flavour town square”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

Old flavour town square, peaceful and orginally beautiful. Is worth visiting, as is the reconstructed church with two towers. Also not to be missed is the beautiful art by Jimenez

“A special place in Camagüey! It combines religion, art, culture and cuisine!”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

Plaza del Carmen, is a place to go for several reasons: it has the only church in the city with 2 towers and with a great work of reconstruction, the plaza keeps the flavor of old times with an added value of having there the art gallery of Martha Jimenez, who is also the responsible for the group of sculptures in the plaza representing a group of neighbors .
Also there is the Restaurant El Ovejito where you can have lunch or drink something to refresh yourself. Also at the plaza there is a popular guitar

“Plaza del Carmen-Martha Jimenez gallery and studio”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

If you research the art of Martha Jimenez before you go to Camaguey, you will see it throughout the city. This is an internationally renown artist and visiting the gallery/studio you will understand why. The studio is located in the square across from the life size bronze sculptures, one of which is a replica of a man who at times can be seen sitting in the same square.

“Nice Plaza to hang out in”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

I've been going down to Camaguey for a number of years and it is an absolute must to visit Plaza del Carmen, for a couple of reasons. Some very good friends live there, across from one of Cuba's greatest artists, Martha Jimenez. The square is lovely to stroll around, rustic and painted in various bright colors. in and the people you will meet are very, very friendly. Take in Martha's studio, you'll be stunned by her talent. Have a drink at the restaurant and if you spot Gwendolyne give her my love.

“Martha Jimenez gallery and studio”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

The first thing you notice slipping inside the doors of this small gallery and studio is what’s not there: Che Guevara is nowhere to be seen. Every other gallery in Cuba feels compelled to offer Che immortalized in oil, acrylic, charcoal, or pen and ink. Not Martha Jimenez. She offers images of strong, whimsical, and mysterious women: sipping tea, dancing, pondering the fish or clown imagery that infiltrates much of the artwork, or perhaps quietly contemplating a revolution of their own. Although her work is award-winning and has been featured in exhibitions around the world, there is something here for every budget including photographs, numbered prints and original paintings, and small and large works in clay. It is difficult to leave without tucking something into your pocket with the help of gallery staff or Martha herself. The gallery is not hard to find; head for Plaza del Carmen and when you see the seven life-size bronze figures of ordinary people gathered in the street your visit to Martha’s fanciful world has begun, the gallery/studio is right across the street.
