Description: El Templete is a bayside restaurant. This restaurant is named ofter neighboring landmark built in 1928 that marks the spot where the settlement of San Cristóbal de la habana was founded in 1519. Originally opened sometimes between 1928 and 1931, it was the second restaurant in the city to have this name, and soon became the favorite of sailors, ahip captains and port pilots. Known since the 1950s as ¨The house of shellfish and international cuisine¨it was famous for its lobsters, shrimps, prawn, clams and delicious paellas, served while customers took in the splendid view of Havana.Today, El Templete revives its seafering tradition in the same atmosphere and continues serving delicious dishes prepared by its excellent Spanish Chef.Past and present come togetherto offer us first-class service and a wide variety of dishes to choose from.

“Wonderful seafood on the harbor.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2013

I ate here with a group of 20 two weeks ago. September is the hottest month in Cuba, so if you are there in the summer, sit inside. The Air conditioning is great. Our appetizers consisted of chicken and fish croquettes. Both varieties were delicious. The second appetizer was a shrimp scampi in garlic and olive oil. We were fighting over the last oil for our bread! The fish course was layered over mango and sweet potato with a piquant sauce, which sounds strange, but was excellent. Dessert consisted of chocolate cake. Eat outside if you want a view.

“Good range of food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2013

Not the cheapest nor the most atmospheric but a wide range of options , well presented and cooked. Good if you have a fussy party or are needing a change from more basic Cuban fare. Good staff

“Lovely food and great service though a bit expensive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013 via mobile

We ate at El Templete at the end of our holiday. After a couple of weeks of comida criolla the food was a welcome change. The fish was very fresh and very nicely cooked. The wine list is pretty good too. A word of advice; ask for agua natural or you get imported French mineral water. I would go back next time I am in La Habana.

Dear customer:
Thanks for the positive comments posted to our restaurant on the site to share with other visitors. We are glad that you felt comfortable and that fish and wines have been to your liking. Regarding the comment of water we consider always very important communication with workers of the place. I always encourage clients to clarify these situations at the time of sevice and we are sure that you will only consume what you requested exclusively. Anyway, this issue will be discussed with staff. We hope that you always visit the restaurant.

“Well cooked high quality fish”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

Like another reviewer I fell foul of the rather expensive single scallop - I was rather surprised given that it was more expensive than I'd expect to pay in the UK. However the rest of the meal we had was fine. As with any other restaurant the choice of vegetables is subject to demand & supply. Service was relatively quick although they did need prompting a couple of times for some items. The restaurant is on a busy bend on the main road so it's not the best of views but I'd still recommend it as somewhere to enjoy fresh catches of the day.

“A bit pricey for ok food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

Generally in Cuba you can find pretty good food for your money. We heard this place was supposed to be good, the food in general was quite nice. However some of it was very expensive for what it was. Even in sterling. I actually had to start 1 scallop for 9CUC. Thats just over £6 for ONE SCALLOP. It didn't really come with anything else properly edible on the plate. I'm not normally stingy with money on food but that does seem a bit mean! Maybe scallops aren't native there, I don't know- but seafood is supposed to be good in Cuba/Havana!
Not entirely sure I'd recommend this place, you can probably find much better food in paladars.
