Raquel is a great person. I stayed in her house about three weeks and I loved it. She made me feel home. The house located very central so you are close to everywhere in the old town. Rooms are very beautiful and clean, there is a very good energie and she is very helpfull, so whatever you need she is gonna try to help you! It was my second time by her and I just can recommend it! Try the breakfast, is the highlight :) She speaks a little bit of englisch so there is no problem with comunication. Enjoy your stay!

Almost everyone in Cuba is nice, but Raquel is a real jewel. She knows just enough English to help out visitors from any country. She's superb at anticipating what you'll need and making arrangements so your arrival in Cuba goes smoothly. We counted on her to arrange for a taxi at the airport, and Alejandro was there to locate us and then hook us up with a taxi. Her breakfasts are superb with wonderful fresh fruits, eggs and breads, coffee, tea, etc. Her casa is a second-story flat in a building built in 1927. The ceilings are 15 ft. high. The physical accommodations are basic, but what Raquel adds to the experience more than doubles the value. The beds are comfortable and the rooms large (there are 3). Many of her guests from Europe have been back several times, which speaks well of what she has to offer. The building is in Old Havana within an easy walk of Museo Revolucion, the Malecon, Museo Nacional de la Musica, the Prado, the Capitol, restaurants and such. She has excellent and reliable contacts for transportation and other places to stay beyond Havana. Raquel is an engineer by degree and has two grown children, one of whom lives with her. Because US credit cards are not accepted in Cuba, I worried about how to secure a reservation. Raquel said "just pay when you get here." I was interviewing people to write articles about tourism in Cuba and how it is changing the lives of Cubans, and Raquel went above and beyond to help me meet others, even let me go grocery shopping with her to experience it like the locals do.

We stayed there as our pre-booked house had pipe problems, and Hilda nicely arranged another accomodation for us. Raquel is sooo great, we immediately felt like being home. The house is very clean and fresh, Raquel is always available for a recommendation, the location is perfect. Breakfast was just awesome. We left asking ourselves why europeans are always cranky while cubans enjoy everything they have. Great experience!

We stayed here for 3 days on our trip to Havana, before heading to Vinales. Raquel and her daughter are very nice. They made our stay comfortable.
The hostel is very close to the Prada which has vendors on the weekends. It's also not too far from the historic and old (La Habana Vieja) districts, so it's a convenient place to stay - you do NOT want to stay in La Habana Vieja unless you find a great hostel or casa.
We had breakfast 2 days there. It was delicious. Always plenty of food and good coffee.
She does not offer dinner - you're on your own. Some casas have a stocked refrigerator (beer, soda and water). Raquel does not - you're on your own for drinks. Fortunately there's a mercado not far (left to the Prada, right on the Prada - about 3 - 4 buildings down on your right). There's a balcony on our floor. We sat there in the evenings and drank beer and smoked cigars. It had a clothesline so I was able to wash my clothes and dry them overnight. There was a "safe" in our room. This was the only casa that we stayed in that had one. I sent numerous emails to her asking to ensure that we had an airport pickup when we arrived (2 sep arrivals - needing 2 sep pickups). She assured me that she would arrange pickup. Neither of us were met at the airport. we each ended up taking cabs to her casa. Her quote for a pickup was 30 CUC. My travel partner got a cab for 30 and I found on for 25 CUC. The neighborhood wasn't bad - MUCH better location than in Vieja.

We landed on a Sunday night. Raquel luckily already arranged us a taxi who attended us at the airport. The classic car did not need to search for the casa. Raquel was there to attend us and explain keys, breakfast, etc. The room is nice with its typical very high ceiling and has a fridge if you want to cool something. The bathroom is clean, the toilet did not flush immediately but Raquel solved it. The shower is ok, you have to get used to have slightly less water then you're used too. The breakfast was really good and its setting was very beautiful. Raquel's house is well located at 1 minute walk from the museum de la revolucion but still in a quite street which means you can sleep well. Queremos decir, gracias Raquel!
