For the price of a 4 star hotel you get a no star experience. During our one week stay there was no hot water, and the staff came up with tall tales about the system being fixed. There were constant problems with the charging for the items from the mini bar that we didn't use, and for the phone calls made through the reception. When you protest they will say it was a mistake and correct the mistake usually, but the scamming continues. They have paid Internet access in theory, but they ran out of cards you need to purchase to use the Internet. The staff does not bother to convey messages or even to connect phone calls, saying that the guest is not in the room even though s/he is. The food is basic and unremarkable and most rooms are really noisy. The only plus is a good location (close walking distance to most attractions of Habana Vieja) and the splendor of the colonial building it is located in.

We stayed here for 3 nights when we first arrived in Havana for 2 week holiday in Cuba. We heard about the rooms with no window and as we arrived late, we did have a room without a window. To be honest - it wasn't as bad as we thought it might be and the lady at the reception desk was more than happy to move us to another room the next night.

I did not think the breakfast was very good however my boyfriend managed to eat it - I am not a fussy eater but by the third day - I couldn't bring myself to eat it!

That said, the building is stunning, and the location is fantastic!

Stayed here for four nights during a two week visit to Cuba. Beautiful old colonial building with internal courtyard with glass roof. Every room is different and yes some do not have a window. Only ate breakfast at te hotel which was good. Fruit, fruit juice, coffee and a choice of cooked eggs served with cold meats. Hotel bar very well priced and cheaper than some of the restaurants and bars in Havana. Hotel is in a good location and a short walk from many places to see including Obispo, Cathedral Square, the Market, Bacardi museum etc. Would definitely go back!

Hotel was as expected, 18th century colonial residence in the middle of Old Havana, I loved it but my wife hated it. It did not help that there was not a window in our room, food was very average even for Cuba and no hot water for 3 days. I would go back but that wont happen.

This hotel is charming and a little different from others in Havana old town - it used to be the home the O'Farrills, a merchant family that emigrated to Cuba in the 18th century. The first thing that strikes you when you walk in is the internal courtyard - it feels like it's outside because the glass roof of the hotel is some 3 or 4 storeys above it. This part of the hotel is its main selling point and is really beautiful.

The rooms are quite big and the beds are comfortable, perfect for getting your head down after long days and nights out in Havana! The bathroom is a little dated but everything is spotlessly clean.

As for the food, well this is still a Communist country and they just don't have the same choice of food that you can expect in the West. It consisted of staples such as pineapple, rice, chicken and pork, and whilst it wasn't exactly inspiring it did us just fine. And they give you plenty of what they have. It's more than a little humbling to get a full plate whilst down the street the locals are queuing with their ration books.

The hotel is really well located, slap bang in the middle of the old town. It's handy for Obispo and the Malecon, and we always felt safe, even as darkness fell in the streets outside. The guys on the door are really helpful and will give you directions for anywhere you want to go. Actually, all the staff are brilliant!!

All in all, if you're considering a Havana hotel and are willing to compromise a little on food choices, then you should look at the comfortable, well-located O'Farrill. If you're a bit more fussy and want more 'Westernised' food then you should probably consider more expensive options.
