This Hotel is located across from the Capitolio. It is very beautiful and well appointed on the inside. We were there in the Prado Suite, which is a huge room and was a bit of an indulgence, but I peeked in other rooms and they looked similar. Certainly up to the standards that you'd expect from a smallish hotel in North America / Europe. The staff is about as helpful as everywhere else in Havana, which I must say is a bit cold/borderline. This is not unique to this Hotel and should't be a reason to avoid it. We tried the hotel restaurant one night. My recommendation is that you don't bother. There are better restaurants for a better price to be found in Havana. Breakfast was fine, though.

The best part of this hotel is the amazing roof-top pool. I cannot overstate how nice the roof-top terrace. My wife and I spent our afternoons lounging up there.

The second best part of this hotel is the free wifi (!). Definitely a money saver if you plan on using data.

The only real negative aspect about this hotel is the location. Although it is right beside old Havana, to get to the nicer part of old Havana, you have to walk through slightly dodgy areas. Nothing dangerous, but there's no question the location of the Parque Central or Telegrafo is better.

Would I stay there again? Yes, but after I've tried a couple of other hotels first.

We stayed at the Saratoga for 2 nights before heading off to Varadero, and we really wished we had stayed longer! We had a fantastic room overlooking the Capitolio, with a four poster bed and luxurious, clean bathroom with a huge monsoon shower! The room was clean and nice, and the food at this hotel was the best we found anywhere else in our 2 week stay in Cuba, so I would reccommend the restaurant. We had breakfast in our room one morning which was also great.

The rooftop pool was amazing, with incredible views over Havana and a small bar that did great cocktails.

The only downside was that the staff on reception were a little miserable - we were given a free room upgrade by Virgin, but were told that this was impossible to provide as there were none available...after pushing this a bit and being a bit stubborn a room upgrade "magically" became available and we were upgraded! But the hotel totally made up for this very slight annoyance and the room and porter staff were great!

The hotel is also a perfect base for exploring Havana. If I were to return to Havana, I would most definately return to the Saratoga!

Stayed for 3 nights in December 2012 before going to Varadero. Lovely hotel, feels "olde worlde" but is apparently only 7 years old. Had a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the bar area but it was very spacious and the bathroom was amazing! Very happy with our stay and enjoyed sipping Mojitos at the rooftop bar and watching the Havana world go by. Staff were friendly and helpful and the restaurant had glorious food and an excellent choice of wines.
Would definitely recommend as a place to stay if in Havana. And btw, if you need a tour guide, Johnny (booked through Virgin) was excellent !!!

Room Tip: Try and get one above 4 th floor.

The Saratoga is Lonely Planet's pick as one of Downtown Havana's "newest ritziest and most dramatic hotels". We stayed in room 104 for five nights. Facing the busy Prado thoughfare with views across to the Capitolio, it was noisy, although solid wood panelled doors could be secured across the windows. There was plenty of room, a comfortable bed, very pleasant ensuite bathroom with bath and hot shower. Internet was easily accessible at the WiFi hotspot in the mezzanine cafe - both internet and breakfast was included in our rate. All competent, reliable and not greatly remarkable, given the expensive rate.
The Lonely Planet reference to "ritziest and most dramatic" must refer to the eatery and swimming pool on the hotel's roof. Spectacular views can be had, although we didn't try the eatery, The menu at the mezzanine cafe was affordable and pleasant.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Av Dragones would be quieter than those facing the perpetually busy Prado. Avoid rooms...

Although our room didn't face the street, we were thankful it was quiet. It was clean and cool, although the shower ran hot and cold (610). The pool area is fantastic for views and all the staff helpful, whether it be in reception, bar or restaurant. Breakfast is varied and nice, and the concierge knows all the rip offs as well as the nice things to do. We liked it very much and would go here again if in the Capitol.

We stayed here for 4 nights in mid April but our experience fell short of expectations. Areas of the interior appeared a little tired and the hotel for us lacked atmosphere.
We liked the location of the hotel near the Capitol building and the streets of old Havana were within easy walking distance. There was a good rooftop terrace, bar and pool and also a relaxing area on the mezzanine level where a talented pianist played each evening and people used the free wifi.
Although our room was large, the furniture in it was dated. The bathroom was clean and we liked the instant hot water for showers and baths. The floor of the room was tiled but not clean. The air conditioning was effective. A dud lightbulb was not replaced. The balcony doors did not fit too well and allowed the noise from the street below to disrupt sleep.
There was a good selection of foods for breakfast but the service was a little haphazard. The napkins were not always clean. The restaurant was not busy in the evening. We were offered a complimentary evening meal but were the only people eating.
The hotel had only a small lobby and this could be congested at check in and check out times.
The receptionists were friendly and changed currency efficiently. We took advice from a helpful concierge.
Independent travellers should note that this hotel is used by tour groups and the availability of breakfast tables and the speed of lifts can be affected accordingly.
