If you know its history, it is a great place to visit. There is a larger than life metallic mural of Che and Santiago across the parking lot.
It is the location where Fidel once had an 8 hour speech and where many have gathered during the revolution.

History about the past was explained by our local guide. So interesting to hear about and put into perspective things we have heard about Cuba in our own country...see the large imposing outlines of Jose Marti and Che Guevara on high rise buildings...learn about their involvement in past history...Was quiet when we visited, but one can reflect on life events that occurred here in the late 50's early 60's...We visited in one of many ''old American cars'' still running, which is wonderful...it was an ''oldsmobile''...pink and purple....The cars are fantastic to see...many old buildings that display great architecture...even with the bullet holes.....a must visit by tourists..

If you don't have a tour guide to tell you all about the historical significance be sure to read about the Revolution Square before you go there. Fidel was known for speeches of more than 5 hours!
The site is huge and you can imagine thousands of people standing and listening.

Great place to start touring Havana. Lots of history in this square, not to mention all the classic cars. A must see and then move on.

This enormous square was the scene for many of Fidel Castro’s mass rallies and speeches, but today it is hardly ever used for those purposes because it’s difficult to assemble such large crowds for a political rally. The José Martí Memorial is the dominant feature, and, although it looks like a Soviet-era monument, it was actually begun by Batista before the Revolution and completed later. Adjacent to the square is an office building that it today where Raul Castro works. Across from the square are large metal portraits of Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos, two heroes of the Revolution. The Camilo portrait includes his affirmation to Fidel Castro − “Vas bien, Fidel” (“You’re doing fine, Fidel”).
