A really good place to walk, or sit and watch. We did both, and were not hassled, nor did we ever feel uneasy, despite warning chez Lonely Planet. Sea air, views of the waterfront, a real mix of buildings, great cars chugging past, people on display .... The Eastern end is still under reconstruction, but that leaves plenty
that's finished

“Great Strolls”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

We started from the Hotel Nationale and walked towards the other end of the Malecon. Lovely to walk in the brisk breeze of the evening. You'll find lots of young children and local men fishing during the day and in the evening. Some parts of the Malecon is too near the shore, you may end up wet, be mindful where you walk. Near the town centre, you'll find lots of local side cafes. A hat is a must if you walk along the Melecon during the day. Enjoy!

“Walking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2012

We were staying at the Nacional, and our friends were staying at the Inglaterra Hotel in the city, so we both left our hotels at a specific time and walked along the Malecon until we met in the middle! Very enjoyable walk - we watched the sunset, and the whole area coming live with people enjoying themselves. There is a huge amount of restoration of buildings going on on the seafront, just wonder if there will be more hotels, apartments or offices.

“Fishing, Swimming, and just Hanging Out.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2012

The Malecon stretches from the west side of Havana Vieja to the west side of Vedado...approximately 4 miles. There are 4 major monuments on the south side of the road in the eastern half... to Generals Maximo Gomez, Antonio Maceo, and Calixto Garcia from the Cuban War of Independence, and the Monument to the Victims of the USS Maine. The Malecon is busiest in the summer, on weekends, and in the evening. Most of the action is at the north end of both La Rampa and Paseo del Prado. People come to fish, swim, drink rum, watch the sunset, meet friends,... There are a few restaurants and cafes scattered along the south side of the road. Rocks the size of small cars can be thrown up during storms and driving can be hazardous at times due to flooding or because of a slippery mix of algae, oil, and water.

“Nice place to walk or jog!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2012

I enjoyed a morning jog along the cool breezes of the seawall a few mornings & then returned in the evening for a sunset walk. We found many people socializing, sharing music, rum & love! It is a great place to meet Cubans of all ages & share kisses in the evening with someone special! There are patios new & old to enjoy a drink for food in certain locations, in front of Plaza de Armas & north of Plaza San Francisco, east of Hotel Nacional, and west of Hotel Cohiba. A must walk when in Havana!
