Recommended by a frequent visitor, we reserved a table for 4. I highly recommend this restaurant! Our table ordered the Asparagus/Feta appetizer - very good, Pork Tenderloin Parm (tenderloin cutlets) and fresh pasta. Everything was tasty and we were very impressed. Out total bill for 4 people with Cervesa was $58.00 pesos (much cheaper than others we visited). Very reasonably priced. We then proceed to the upstairs lounge for a Margarita and Daiquiri - both excellent and reasonably priced. If visiting Havana and want a nice dinner in a nice community, I would recommend booking at Starbien. Super close to old Havana and worth the taxi drive over.

This was our 6th visit to Havana and we are always looking for somewhere new to eat. Our favourite was Ivan Justo and this place might even top that. The service was brilliant and the food even better. We are foodies and just loved the fish in sesame and the steak was to die for. It is a shame we came here on our last night as we would definitely have returned more than once. The setting was romantic, out on the front patio and the house had been renovated to a very high standard. Go there as you will not be disappointed.

What do you do with limited produce? A challenge every restaurant (and indeed person), in Cuba do well in facing on a daily basis and without a doubt, Starbien was the very best example of this. My wife and I were recommended this place by a friend who knows Havana well. We spontaneously looked at each other across the table after our first mouthfull of food - in awe. Long story short, when our waiter came out to ask us what we thought of our meal, I chipped in with "Everything was delicious and cooked to....." I hesitated to use such a word so my sentence was justly completed by our waiter - "..... perfection". They do it and they know they do it, as if "what do you expect?". The service was also very well balanced and achieved that black magic trick of being there when needed but never imposing. Thank you.

Starbien is a nice old two story home, beautifully restored by a new family generation and converted to a Palador (privately owned and operated restaurant). After ten days and dinners in Cuba this was the best. Appetizers were creative, well seasoned, and ample. Our party shared tuna stuffed peppers, ceviche, and salad. My entree was a nice sized filet of snapper with a lemon sauce. Included were rice and black beans. Desert was flan. The owner was present and told us he got fresh fish from Florida. It has a full bar upstairs and good service. After 10 days in the hinterland where Cuban scarcity or shortages cramp the kitchen style, this place was a delight.

A Cuban friend recommended this restaurant. We were lucky to try it out early in our visit, because we liked it so much we returned twice more during the week.

The house itself is lovely. The choice seating is right out front on the patio, where there are four tables for four people or so. Reservations are recommended to get the best tables. There are more tables inside and more upstairs. Another choice table would be upstairs on the balcony. Be advised that if you are inside upstairs in the room with the bar, the music can be loud and the bartender uses a noisy blender (although even that wasn't enough to ruin the otherwise wonderful experience).

The staff are friendly and helpful, and much more attentive than at your average Cuban restaurant.

The food is excellent, including the filet mignon - the best beef I have had in Cuba. I was visiting with cattle farmers from Saskatchewan and they are not easily impressed with the beef; it is not amazing by Canadian standards, but it is good.

Every year, there are more and better restaurants in Havana. Despite stiff competition, this restaurant is our new favourite!
