I arrived in Havana alone in April 2016, and had arranged with Ari via e-mail for an airport pickup (for 25CUC, which according to most guides was reasonable). I arrived and was received generously, with plenty of advice on what to seek out and avoid in Havana. Ari's English is more than sufficient, and she is the most hepful and generous host you can imagine - arranging for other places to stay if you are moving to other Cuban cities!

The room itself is comfortable and spacious, with private and clean bathroom amenities. Breakfast is had in a kind of elevated courtyard, with natural sunlight coming in, and consists of a never-ending parade of fresh fruits, french toast, omelette, and amazing Cuban coffee!

The apartment is located ideally for exploring Havana by foot, with quick access both to central Havana, but also providing you the option to make your way around it to explore alternative areas like Vedado. The neighbourhood initially looks rundown, but had no unsafe encounters, and slept soundly at night! Access to an ATM 50 metres from the door, and several small kiosks (supermarkets aren't exactly the norm in Cuba).

All in all, Ari's apartment was an ideal beginning to a visit to Cuba, they reflect what is great about staying with people and not hotels, sharing generously of their home and their city.

I stayed for two nights in this casa. It was very nice. It is very close to the capitol.
Breakfast was just great! Too much to eat all that.
People were very kind, helpful and lovely.
The room was very clean and it had all you need.
Good place to stay in Habana.

Located in the Barrio Chino, a couple of blocks behind the Capitol, this is a good base for exploring Havana. The building looks run-down on the outside, but has good bones, and is comfortable inside. The apartment is two floors up, with a front living area that looks out on the street, and rooms arranged around a central air well. There is a good flow of air into the public areas of the apartment.
Our room had 15' ceilings (!), but limited light; we needed to use the A/C to keep sufficiently cool, since there is not enough flow of natural air.
Breakfast was copious.
Alex responds quickly to e-mails and speaks English - he is based in Atlanta! His mother runs the apartment, and is helpful and welcoming.
Unfortunately, the day we arrived the place had to be fumigated - to keep down Zika. This is done all over the city every six weeks or so, by the army. I am sensitive to the chemical odor, which lingered most of the night, but had dissipated by morning. Just one of those interesting things one learns when staying with people rather than in hotels!

Arri is really one of the most helpful hosts in Havana, full of tips on where to go (and where to avoid!). She also arranged airport transfers which were cheaper than the ones we were quoted by other casas.

Breakfast was excellent (note that there are two buildings so you may be staying across the street from where breakfast is served). The neighbourhood is very central, good atmosphere but quite noisy especially on the weekend.

Room tip: Stairs to the room are quite steep
