First of all lets get a few things out of the way. This was my first trip to Cuba. This hotel and all other like it are not what I would like to think foreigners relate to a five-star hotel in big cities and especially capitals of countries.
We arrived in Habana after being in Varadero at the Melia Peninsula at Varadero. Things definitely change the moment you walk into the Melia Habana. The lobby is large and has a sense of splendor you really don´t see in Cuba. The service is overall good 8/10. The food is so-so 6/10. The room was very good 9.5/10.
Without getting into a lot of detail my recommendation is to go out. Do not stay at the hotel all day. There are several good places to eat and sights to see. If possible do not even eat at the hotel. For the price of the buffet 25CUC you can pretty much eat anywhere.
Overall, very comfortable place to stay. I would also take into account the Hotel Nacional de Cuba. It´s rather grand in its construction and the inside looks great.More
