“Top-end European theme, lacking in genuine class”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

This place, as others have described, is delightfully furnished and laid out in a dark ambience, with suitable lo-fi music in the background. It's located in a house that at first you might not realise is a restaurant - you must go up and buzz.

The main limitations of this place, are the fact the service and food range did not merit the excessive prices by Cuban standards. I admire their attempt to set the culinary standard in Havana, but the waitering needs to be more polished and attentive, and there needs to be more vegetarian food. It just felt impersonal and slightly out of place in Havana's otherwise more gregarious eating culture. Some people might like the style though, as a contrast. It's worth a try, just to see where the cutting edge of Havana may be going.

This place is bound to be a huge success in the next 2-3 years, so this review is just a call for more refinement and fine-tuning.

“New Havana emerging”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

From the moment you step in, you fall in love with this place. All the crumbling and noisy Havana suddenly disappears, and you find yourself in a new place - which is New Havana.
The owner of this place did something unbelievably beautiful and courageous - putting up such extraordinary restaurant and going out of his way to offer something so revolutionary. All this in a place where classic criollo cuisine sells best and people probably don't come looking for fine French cuisine.
You have to admire this guy's effort and vision! Mind my words, this place is going to be BIG very soon - or as soon as embargo ends and this place can rely on steady supplies. They are doing something magical here already - in a private restaurant and in embargo environment.
Come to eat here - you won't regret it!

“Always, when in La Habana, Le Chansonnier...!”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

Chansonnier is ALWAYS on the top of my "go to" list in La Habana . Whether dining with a book, a friend or a group, the food, atmosphere and service at Le Chansonniere is superb. In Cuba recently with a group of Canadian chefs and chef students participating in the 2013 Canada-Cuba Culinary Exchange, we had the delightful experience (once again; thank you Hector!) of arriving at Le Chansonnier early in the morning (to make the bread), meeting with the Cuban chefs to set the menu, shopping together for ingredients at the local farmers market, then preparing together an amazing lunch. Thank you Embassy of Canada staff and family members for supporting this luncheon! When you go, you won't of course get to do this... :) but you WILL enjoy an unforgettable dining experience. Le Chansonnier's unfailing and very generous support for this culinary exchanges, which provides an awesome experience for our young Canadian chefs, is just one more reason to support this long-established Havana paladar,. Reservations a must. Tell Hector, the enthusiastic and passionate owner, that Wendy sent you... :)

“Excellent”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

I had dinner and the duck was tender and juicy. The queso frito is a must. Excellent wine list and dessert is great.

Service and atmosphere is very trendy.
