“Nice Hotel”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

We returned to this hotel as part of our yearly trip to Cuba - We stayed here from the 20th June to the 24th June. I like this hotel because it is situated in a nice area.I don't know why most of the people who do reviews give this hotel such a bad reputation - I don't know what they are expecting sometimes ! To say it all these are my reviews:The hotel staff are fantastic, starting from when we arrived till we left.

The receptionists were great, helping you whenever you need.
The rooms were perfect - always clean and tidy. The chambemaids were so friendly that I always left them tips and sweets !
Breakfast was typically more than I expected, it gets you to choose whatever you wish to eat.
Pool area was very fantastic and the bar offers a choice of widely of things to eat and drink. At night we use to relax and drink by the pool and it was a very nice romantic atmosphere.
The bar inside the hotel was excusively good and the shows in the evening were very nice.
Restaurants are very good. We like the food there.
Now enough of the hotel - let's talk about outside and the surroundings.
Hotel offers a free shuttle to Old Havana which departs 4 times a day and this helped a lot in our tour.
When you leave the hotel you could go to the beach were you can enjoy a drink or something to eat in one of the small beach restaurants around.Lot of nice music until late at night !
You can also go to the supermarket nearby where there's a choice of things to buy.The restaurant nearby is a good place to relax, eat, drink and hear music from a mobile disco.
There's also a little shopping complex nearby with a good restaurant called Amelia were food and drinks are very cheap, but very enjoyable.
You can also walk around the neighborhood, that takes you to the main area where there are lots of embassies and very nice places to check, like night shows and drama, restaurants, coffee shops, an aquarium and lots of other nice and interesting places.
I would surely recommend this hotel to people with an open mind who like to travel and enjoy the exclusivity and don't expect too much - Remember one thing when you travel : We're not at home with all our luxurious surrounding, but we are guests in other countries and so we should adapt to local traditions and way of life.

Thanks H10 Habana Panorama

Stayed here for 3 nights as part of the "Footsteps of Hemingway" tour offered by Thomas Cook, the rest of the holiday was spent in Varadero which was a total contrast. The room was dated and not very clean with a small exfoliating style towel, washing up liquid quality toiletries and rationed to one toilet roll per day. The worst aspects of this hotel though was the food and the service. I had diarrhoea from day 1 (right through to the end of the holiday incidentally) which started after the first evening meal. Plentiful vegetables, but very little meat or fish and what was served was done with a poor attitude. We discovered that it was better for us to order a litre and half bottle of water rather than 2 x 500mls but the staff, after serving this on the first night, decided that on the second and third nights that it was not hotel policy-basically they could not be bothered! Ice-cream was a melted slop in the bottom of a metal dish that was not replaced and wine was service by glass only. Breakfast comprised bacon that was more fat than bacon and pancakes that were cold and tasteless and soggy-the chef was obviously receiving a bonus for making them despite the fact that nobody was eating them. Sprouts and mash potato also made an appearance which was novel!
We paid extra for this trip and we discovered that other guests in Varadero had stayed in much better quality hotels in Havana, the location was also poor so Thomas Cook ought to treat its guests with more respect and preserve its reputation at the same time! This hotel was appalling, even taking into account Cuban culture so stop using it and charging extra for the privilege.

Room Tip: don't stay here in the first place!

We were put into this hotel as part of an overnight in Havana package deal.

I hated it.

The hotel itself is nice enough. Our room overlooked the atrium and we could hear everything from our neighbours to people talking in the bar downstairs. The room was moderately clean. The shower was broken. The bedsheets weren't nice. The buffet food was poor. The bar service was poor (you cannot order wine)?!

Perhaps my impression was poor because I'd been staying in a nicer hotel before getting here, but truly I did not like anything about this hotel.

Stayed here for one night in June 2012 as part of a Thomas Cook overnight trip to Havana from Cayo Coco.

The hotel itself is nice. The design is slightly dated but there's no point getting hung up on that. The rooms are nice, the bathroom is decent and the aircon is good; but the bed had such a dip in it I was nearly staying in the room below. And as for the noise it made whenever I moved..... The pool is nice and is a welcome refresher after a hot day touring the city, but really a shower would do the same.

Dinner and breakfast were included in our tour, both of which were served in the buffet restaurant. Both of which were also awful. I wouldn't expect gourmet food, but something with a flavour would be a start. A few members of our group didn't eat as it was so bad. Even our guide joked "Did everyone have a nice breakfast?" the next day on the bus. I'm no fussy eater - but this was poor.

The real issue I had with the hotel was it's location. As has been said in other reviews, it's twenty minutes outside the city along the coast road. It cost six of us 20CUC to get into town in a 50s taxi, then cost two of us 10CUC on the way home after midnight. If you're only there for a night with the express purpose of seeing the city (not being taken to see the Tropicana show), I'd avoid this place if you can. If you're going with Thomas Cook, they'll promise all sorts (we were definitely in a Melia hotel in the centre, we were promised) and then dump you here as that's where the local company have their deal.

The actual area is fine - I went for a wander to find a pharmacy and the general area is perfectly safe and nice. It's in the embassy district so it's going to be decent. The area along the seafront was busy with local youths at night, which might not be to all tastes. I didn't walk along there but didn't get the feeling it was dangerous.

Room Tip: Ask for sea-facing! Or preferably in another hotel, actually in Havana - not Florida.

When first checked in we were given a room on the 5th floor with 2 double beds and an old/little TV, which is not what we wanted.
Later I talked with our west jet agent and she got us in the 7th floor with a king-size bed and a TV that worked.

The piano bar upstairs is a great place to check email and have something to eat ( $8 an hour for internet which was the same at the resort we stayed at in Varadero).

Pool was a great place to relax for a couple of hours.

The hotel is a little outside of the city center, in an area that houses diplomats. The Copacabana is a short walk down the road. The area is very safe to walk in, we walked all over the area (although old and lots of broken sidewalks, it is Habana).
There is a supermarket close by/ just across the street to buy water or other things. You can jump on a red double decker open air bus and ride/tour to town for $5 a person and jump on and off as many times as you want till 6PM. This is a great way to see many historic sites and a very safe way to travel.

The hotel offers a free bus to old Habana which we also did once, just be prepared when you jump off that many people will come up to try sell you something. Or take a taxi, Taxis are not expensive to town anyway.
Great buffet breakfasts.

Just by the supermarket again close by/ just across the street is an outdoor restaurant in the same parking lot as the supermarket. Have something to eat here, fantastic seafood and very friendly people. They also have great pizza. Mingle with the locals and enjoy the real tastes for a good price.

We spent 3 days in Habana ( the name is not Havana, that's for English speaking people) and went into a few restaurants for a drink or a meal and listened to very good Cuban bands.
They will expect a tip for listening which I think is very fair for excellent music or you can buy a CD from them which I did a few time ( well worth $10 a CD and helps them out).

If going into bathrooms in restaurants in old Habana, expect to pay to tip person who cleans the bano.

I would stay here again if I came back to Havana.

We stayed her for two nights while visiting Havana. The rooms were clean and large, shower very powerful and A/C good.
View of the water was lovely.
Restaurant was ok, it was mexican night when we were there and the fajitas were tasty. Avoid beef in Cuba, wherever you go it is tough!
Breakfast was a bit chaotic and we struggled to find a table on our last morning.
Other people who visited the hotel with us had suites which included a jacuzzi and a balcony with loungers.
The lobby bar was pleasant, although a group of musicians came and sang to us and then asked for money - I didn't like being hassled for money for something I didn't ask for.
We went to the Tropicana show which was amazing, we had such a great time!!

It is not a boutique chic hotel, it is a chain and it does what it claims to do - no problems!

I am not so sure that the area is a ghetto as mentioned in another review - it is a little outside of the centre, in an area that houses diplomats, the private properties here are large and well maintained. There is a supermarket close by and a bar. Taxis are not expensive to town anyway.

I would stay here again if I came back to Havana.
