My boyfriend and I stumbled across El Chanhullero while negotiating our way around the madness and mayhem of Havana on a rainy and roasting early evening, and left many, many hours (and cocktails) later.
In short, this is an absolute must!
We ended up coming here a few times, and I would strongly recommend this place for so many reasons. It's far more 'real' and fun than the standard guide book bar recommendations, the food is actually good (after a while around Cuba I don't think we've ever eaten vegetables as quick in our lives!), the atmosphere is vibrant, and the staff energetic and friendly. In an otherwise overpriced Havana eating scene, this place stands out a mile for good value.
As rather loyal customers, extra shots, cigars and a table would mysteriously appear on our visits.
All in all, make a note of this address and be prepared to spend a long and thirst-quenching evening in this wonderful hole-in-the-wall nightspot that inspires great conversation no matter the language, foot tapping, cigar tasting and working your way through the drinks list.
