You can't beat Casa Yamir for location in Havana Vieja nor can you beat Yamir for information on Havana or Cuba. The casa is run in partnership with Jula his wife who prepares a delicious breakfast of dinner if required - I can recommend both for authentic Cuban cuisine.
The casa itself is simple, very clean but could do with a carpet and a picture to make it a little more ......well,homely.
In the end it is a comfortable bed and the best welcome to Cuba I could have wished for.
We ended up in Yamir's house for one night as a chain reference - all other casas were taken and we wanted the location. The casa is in the heart of Havana Vieja and this is as local as it gets! Yamir is very nice and speaks good English. While his place is clean, it is a set-up you want to get out of and keep re-checking for bed-bugs (luckily, there were none). At $30 it's overcharged. The shower water was only tepid but then it's common in Cuba. We stayed for one night only and Yamir easily let us keep our bags in the room until departure at 5pm and even take shower before the flight.
The owner is nice but the place is as basic as it gets and will work only for very undemanding travellers.
