Hotel Mercure Sevilla Havane
Ranked #8 of 80 Hotels in Havana
Reviewed June 18, 2013

Rooms are uneven - had to switch 3 times to get one that was a reasonable size and not smelly. But once we got the right room (although had to settle for a smaller bed), the hotel itself, with its restaurant with amazing view, great patio bar and pool is absolutely perfect and really well located, between the Malecon and Old Havana. Recommend.

I read mixed reports on this hotel and booked it as I wanted a good location in the centre of the city as well as a typical Havana style hotel and not a modern block of flats!..this hotel really is something special..old style design with great features and dripping with character! The rooms are spacious and light with good beds and decent bathroom. Modern quality TV with BBC World and CNN as well as various other channels. The AC works a treat and had to turn it off at night as it was too good!..Breakfast adequate choices of bread juices and the staff are great. A table one of the windows creates a great feel early in the morning as the people walk past and you watch the old cars rattling by. The rooftop restaurant is spectacular and offers panoramic views of Old Habana. The pool and bar are excellent with good quality sun loungers free towels and there's a gym and a sauna , the massage I had was first class as well! What made a great stay was the staff at front desk who were really were the A Team! Nothing was too much trouble even charging our phones and camera batteries for us..laundry service was fast and good as well. A special mention to Elder he was superb..also Heldy Rosita Mirel Judied Margarita Ana Maria and Zunilda..!! when I go back to Habana there's only one place for me...and this is it! Thoroughly enjoyable 7 nights and great Mojitos at the bar too!

Room Tip: ..go for the 8th floor ..great views of the town!

Stayed May 2013 for three nights in a large room on the eighth floor overlooking the swimming pool.
Breakfast was more than adequate but did not eat in the Hotel with so many local "restaurants" to try.Music in the lobby each evening.
Located only a short distance from the "old" quarter & across the road from several museums & the famous Ballet school from which we enjoyed music filtering through their windows.
Loved the Hotel, quirky in parts... we had two types of electricity sockets in our room. Faded elegance in general,so even if you do not stay here it is worth a visit to view the charming interior.

Recommend staying here and agree with recent comments. Also, we stayed in room 615 where al Capone also stayed. From the room we could also see a Cuban rooftop bar where you could watch salsa dancing. You really need to stay in a hotel like this in Havana.

Stayed for just two nights and the hotel provided a good nights sleep even though a bit on the cold side, the AC was a little bit too efficient. We found it very nice to have access to a pool when the sun was melting the tarmac of the Havana streets.
The only real disappointment was the breakfast. Shortage of utensils and cups/glasses made it a bit of struggle and finding something good to eat was more of an adventure than we'd like in the morning.

Our experience:
Beautiful big corner room. Fell asleep to the sound of music and woke up to the sound of the city
Helpful staff - even at the front counter. Maybe being nice to them is a good start. I witnessed Canadians behaving badly towards Cuban service providers.
Tremendous show of operatic singing in the rooftop restaurant. Food only okay. Didn't go back.
Amazingly centrally located: 5 minutes to the capital bldg and the theater, 5 minute walk to the Museum, 15 minutes to Veija Havana.
Although on our next trip we will likely find an apartment and stay longer, this package arranged by Sunwing was everything that it promised.

Room Tip: We lucked into the corner room on the 8th floor. Ask for it!

I would describe this hotel as Faded Glory! Very typical of Cuba. It is mentioned in Graham Greene Our Man in Havana And Greene had his cocktails he when he was in Havana. It was a very comfortable stay and we extended our time in the hotel as we enjoyed it so much. The swimming pool is a real bonus. The staff we encountered were all helpful. The plumbing left a little to be desired but that is Cuba. It is opposite the National Ballet school which is a lovely bonus if your room is on that side of the hotel. The restaurant on the 9th floor was very atmospheric but the piano horribly out of tune. I really felt for the pianist who was very accomplished but could do nothing about the lack of quality of his instrument.

Room Tip: Ty and get a room overlooking the ballet school
