“Warm Christian welcome in Havana”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

You could not better the warm welcome that Deysi and Adiel extend to their guests. Nothing is too much trouble, from advice on where to eat and go, to the offer of extra drinks, and lovely home made guava juice drink!! The room is spotless and the en-suite shower and loo also. The area is quite poor but well located for a walk to the old town. The Floridita is worth a visit as a Hemingway haunt in the Old town, but have your daquery elsewhere as it is a rip off. Well worth a few nights stay if just for the warmth of their welcome,

Room: Spacious, high ceilings, large mirror, fan, air-conditioner, bathroom equipped with a soap bar & hot water for showers.

Sleep quality: At night, the room was quiet; didn’t hear any noise from outside. We pulled out the in-room-fridge plug as it occasionally rumbled.

Cleanliness: Out of 8 casas we stayed at, this casa was the cleanest! Clean towels were provided. More clean towels were available upon request.

Location: La Guarida, which serves delectable food, is right across the street. The casa is 6-7 minutes’ walk to the Malecon, a 10-15min walk to Vedado & to Havana Vieja respectively.

Value: Adiel gave us an unbeatable, special deal for our stay.

Service:
Adiel’s level of English enabled us to communicate functionally. We enjoyed talking to him.
He helped me carry a luggage to the room.
We got to keep the keys to the room during our stay.
He helped call the next casa to confirm our arrival.
His advice, warnings & recommendations (e.g. eating, money exchange, taxi rides) were helpful, & he was never pushy.
He can arrange a stay with his cousin in Vinales for a good deal. We didn’t stay there as we’d a prior booking elsewhere.
Check out time is at 12pm but luggage can be left at the casa for a later pick-up without cost.
Adiel was the only casa owner who requested we email him after our return to Canada so he’d know about our safe arrival home.

The family is a Christian family & so is mine. Adiel & his brother Gustavo care for Deysi by taking turns to clean, prepare breakfast, etc.
Deysi & Gustavo, don’t speak English, & they were warm & friendly.
Upon request, Deysi played Christian songs for us. She wound her clock so I could take photos of the cuckoo. When we returned late one night, Deysi had brought in our laundry lest we forget. She also gave us a few Bible verses.
Gustavo prepared breakfast during our stay. During meals, he’d check in regularly to ensure we were satisfied. There was lots to eat & drink for breakfast. When Gustavo saw us finish the guayaba juice, he gave us more. The family must’ve noted how much we enjoyed the coffee & fruit – those portions on the second (& last) morning of our stay were larger!

During our 2nd Havana visit, our booking with another casa didn’t work out. We approached Adiel. He didn’t have availability so he found us a well-equipped room at a casa near his for the same price as what we'd paid him. He escorted us there & the hosts were nice.

We spent 1 night at Casa Deysi y Adiel at the end of August. Location is great - about 10 minutes walk to the Parque Central & Capitolio. Our room and bathroom were super clean. There was also a sitting room with a view of the street that we could use anytime. SInce the old air conditioner was at the same level as the bed, it would the push the cold air directly on us, so we had to wake up several times at night to turn it on and off (it was super warm as hurricane Isaac was approaching the island).

The host Adiel and his mom were welcoming, and Adiel helped us by calling a restaurant for dinner and a bus company for departure times. (Note: the hosts only speak Spanish)

The breakfast was good with some delicious guava juice and tropical fruits (see photos). Keeping in mind that it costs 4 CUC for ingredients purchased cheaply in Moneda Nacional, including the subsidized bread, it hardly offers good value but we found it convenient (plus Adiel's Mom keeps her kitchen sparkling clean!).

This was the second Casa I stayed at during my time in Havana and it was by far the best one. Minutes away from the Malecon and a short walk into the Old City. Deysi and Adiel were very helpful and gracious hosts. The room and bathroom were very clean and just hanging out on the balcony whilst watching Havana life go by was an added bonus of this Casa.

How lucky we were to arrive here on our first evening, and stay for 3 days. Adiel explained the essentials we needed to know about Havana and made us feel very welcome.
Location is ideal for exploring the city, close to the Malecon and in walking distance of the old town. For a top-quality meal out (though not cheap), it's also opposite La Guarida restaurant, which looks from the outside like another disused wreck of a building, but contains the set of the film Fresa y Chocolat.

The rooms in the casa are spotlessly clean and well-appointed. Good aircon and fan in the room. Shower runs hot apparently if you let it run for a few minutes (we didn't think to try - it was hot outside anyway!). Breakfast was delicious with egg, sausage, lots of fruit and scrumptious fresh fruit juice. The pineapple was especially delicious.

Adiel also helped us out with planning our trip, and sent us to a lovely casa (of his cousin) in Vinales.

A lovely family, I would never want to stay anywhere else in Havana.

I am very pleased to have found this casa on Trip Advisor. Like many other travelers, I based my judgement on other travelers' reviews and I am glad I chose this among others. The casa was spotless clean and within walking distance from Havana Centro. There is also a very good restaurant just across the street from the casa. Above all, the owners were pleasantly nice. I will definitely stay here again.
