“A good restaurant choice, for Havana.”
Reviewed April 24, 2012

This is the first floor restaurant in the building of the Federation of Asturian (Spanish) Associations in Cuba, located conveniently close to the Parque Central, and next door to the Parque Central Hotel. Like many of the Habana restaurants this one is also located in an magnificent interior inside of an 18th century palace and well worth the visit. The two restaurants here (“The Terraza” restaurant on rooftop level is described somewhere else.) are of a semi-governmental type, since the Spanish society has a saying here, which means that they are above the (bad) standard of typical government run facilities. The service is attentive and fast, unlike in other places you won’t have to wait an eternity before your food arrives. However, like in most government restaurants I don’t know why I always get the feeling that the male waiters are part-time Police officers as well. I had a lobster day: The lobster cocktail was a nice cup of tasty lobster pieces served in a coconut shell. The presentation was nice and the taste was excellent. As a main course I had the grilled butterflied lobster tail, again, nice presentation and excellent taste, grilled to perfection without being dry. The dish comes with the typical rice and black beans, thankfully however served in separate bowls. The grilled lobster is one of the most expensive many course meals (15 CUC) and was worth it. Don’t leave Havana without having tried their excellent “Ropa Vieja” (“Old clothes”), served with beans and rice, a large fresh salad, and their signature bread basket. Sometimes the chef gets overly creative in regards to the presentation, some of his "food structures" however, collapse on the way from the kitchen to your table. The homemade grissini (bread sticks) are fabulous. Bathrooms will not match your expectation, maybe you want to bring your own wet wipes, or hand sanitizer. Try also the night club on the same floor, just walk past the bar and you will find it behind a big wooden door. “Asturias Restaurant” is one of the few restaurants in Habana I can recommend.

“Sunset Over Havana”
Reviewed April 21, 2012

Reserve a table a the front of La Terasse at Restuarant Asturias on Prado. The evening view over Havana with a Mojito aperitif is priceless. Service is gracious and discrete, among the best you could find. The charcoal grilled food is very good. We enjoyed lobster tail and a delicious white fish from the grill served on banana baked in its skin, (probably the plantain bananas). Definitely order the sides of grilled vegetables and what are translated as roast potatoes. It is unusual to get potatoes cooked appetisingly in Cuba. One side order of each is enough between two as the portions are generous. The starter was not to my taste as the stuffed peppers had a much too meaty filling for me and the sauce was over plentiful and rich. Bread in Cuba is on the bland side and needs to be served warm. At la Terasse it is served hot, hot, hot, which makes such a difference. No room for desert but the coffee was nice. Good restaurants in Havana are not easy to come by but this one is worth it for the view alone. Try to get a table aT the edge of the terrace with an uninterrupted view over the city. There are other sections of Asturias with no view so be sure to book La Terasse or get your hotel concierge to do it for you.

“A great choice in Havana”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

Another Havana restaurant with more than one restaurant in the building who seem to share an entrance.

We went twice - ate at the first floor "international" restaurant on the balcony and also in the ground floor "Cuban" restaurant. Liked both (probably the ground floor one more as it was more traditional in feel) and the portions are huge.

Well worth a visit to either - or both!

“Go - you will not be disappointed!”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

We found this place on our last night in Havana and wish we had found it on our first! The food was excellent, the atmosphere was great, and the staff were great. The price was very reasonable so we would have gone back if we had had more time. We had appetisers and main course, washed down by local beer served by chatty staff. The rice, black beans, roasted chicken, grilled lobster, garlic potatoes – all cooked to perfection with so much flavour!

Definitely worth a visit.
