The guide explained a lot about rum and the history. He answered all the questions to the people and knew a lot. Tasting at the end of a 7 year old rum was great!

I actually enjoyed our trip to the Havana Club Museum. I found the information provided by our tour guide to be outstanding. He knew what he was talking about and answered several tough questions. Very energetic and sincere. The sample of the 7 year old at the end was a great touch too. $7.00, worth it in my opinion!

At 7 CUC per person El Museo del Ron is a total rip off, even when taking into consideration the poor value for your money you generally get in Havana.

The very brief 15 minute tour consisted of: a hallway with a display cabinet advertising varieties of Havana Club rum, a projection room (which wasn't working during our visit), some sugar cane and old wooden presses, a model of a sugar factor with a train that goes round and round, some big wooden fermentation vats with some fake bubbling going on, an activated charcoal/silica filter bed and a copper distillation vessel. The tour was extremely rushed and poorly explained, presumably to cope with the constant influx of tour buses, and we left none-the-wiser about how the rum was made.

At the end there is a shop were you can buy the standard varieties of Havana Club rum at prices not too much higher than supermarkets nearby. However, there were a couple of expensive special varieties not generally available elsewhere. They give you a 'free' small dram of the 7 year old which to be fair does cost 3 CUC for a full measure in the fancier bars and hotels around town.

For some proper rum related fun I would recommend that you use the 7 CUC you saved by avoiding El Museo del Ron like the plague to instead buy a bottle of the 7 year old from a supermarket, then enjoy it responsibly while people watching on the Malecón.

Very intreasting and educative about the process of Rum making,as u explre the diffrent kind of rum from old ones, more expansive and tastey,to new ones. u learn how the rum is made and they way to store it,on the end of the tour you get to teaste some just a slight taste.

A visit to El Museo del Ron Havana Club is worth your time while in Havana. The museum is well set up with very good exhibits and guided tours in multiple languages. Our guide was excellent and was very knowledgeable on the subject. At the end of the tour a drink is included and in the courtyard there was a fellow juicing sugarcane right before your eyes. The experience is just about the right length to impart some good information without overdoing it.

Yes it is a bit cliché but Cuba prides itself on its rum and they have created a great facility to celebrate it.
