This was the Havana Biltmore Yacht & Country Club until the Revolution. They have many photos of the old days in the hall on the way to the restaurant. There is no charge to go to the restaurant or Casa del Habano, but a CUC 20 charge for a day membership to use the pools, private beach etc. It is a pleasant retreat from the summer heat down-town. There is an intimate bar beside the restaurant in the main building and a business center for internet access. The Casa del Habano at the SW corner of the complex is well stocked and has a small smoking lounge with drinks and expresso. It also has an excellent in-house cigar roller...CUC 6 per stick I think. Another Club restaurant is on the NE side of the swimming pools. It serves lunch dishes such as pizza, bbq steak, sandwiches etc. The club maintains excellent diving equipment. There is also a sport center, showers, shops, and various facilities for events. Cabs from Havana Vieja cost about CUC 10.
The restaurant has always been well run and the somnelier highly trained. The dining room is rather formal but they have also served me on the second floor loggia one evening while we were watching a dramatic lightning storm flash by just off-shore. They also take food to guests on the beach.
All of the staff at Club Havana are highly trained and very professional. They are used to looking after diplomats and VIP's from all over the world. If you are in Havana for longer stays, it is a good place to know.
