Spacious rooms with the amenities we in the US expect. It appeared a bit worn but for Cuba we were pleasantly surprised. It is located on the outskirts of Havana Vieja which is ideal and a safe walk to and from many of the famous spots. Breakfast is included and is better than most of the European hotels. Lovely pool and patio on the roof.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back side of the hotel on a higher level.

We stayed a week in a junior suite in this hotel. Its location just besides the old town is excellent, and even on a busy street it is quiet at night. The breakfast buffet is much better than we would have expected to find in Cuba, staff is attentive and fast. On the last two days they were out of black tea, but we had brought our own for tea in the room, so that was not a problem. The pool on the roof is beautifully located with a great view over the city, and good service.
Cuba is short of everything except police and security staff, so they write down the serial number of your pool towel on a list when they hand it out, but that did not bother us.
Internet service (Wifi) is horribly expensive like everywhere in Cuban hotels, if it exists at all.
When we arrived, we were annoyed that hotel security would not allow us to show our suite to the two local friends who had picked us up at the airport. But we got arround that the next day, by simply ignoring such restrictions. Also annoying was the unavailability of a kettle for the room. Other more modern Havana hotels do have them.

Dear Alois Treindl,

We would like to thank you for choosing to stay at Iberostar's Parque Central hotel. We are pleased to have provided you with a good vacation. We apologize for the fact that guests are restricted within the hotel premises and this is only for our clients' safety and confort. All clients lodging in the hotel may have visitors only in our public areas and with the authorization of the management. This is done as our swimmingpool area is not that big and when our hotel is full capacity, we like to give our customers the priority over the hotel's premises. We thank you for your understanding.

We hope to be able to offer you our hospitality in the future.

Our party stayed in the newly refurbished half of the Parque Central for two nights at the start of our tour of Cuba. On entering the hotel it was clear that the management have made no attempt to address the problems highlighted in previous reviews.
Reception was chaotic, packed with luggage, and crammed with guests attempting to complete hotel registration forms whilst perched on their cases due the lack of seating.
Tip One: Always carry a number of BLACK pens with a copy of your parties passport numbers. Ask for a registration form as soon as you get to the hotel, quickly fill it in and then hand it personally to the Receptionist with a beaming smile. As soon as you get your credit card room key move resolutely to the lifts. (No porter will be available so you should expect to take your bags to the room.)

The lifts are a major issue in this hotel as the overloaded alarm is triggered and they refuse to budge the moment they become loaded with more than two guests with cases.
Tip Two: Always put your luggage in first and one of your party with the room key as then you can load passengers in until you trigger the alarm. This will save you having to unload your cases to allow the lift to progress. As one of the three lifts packed up during visit always plan on your lift journey taking ten minutes.

Our suite/room was very spacious, spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable with a huge bathroom equipped with a bath the size of a small swimming pool.

You will need to change money at some point. The hotel bank is located in the old half of the hotel. It is accessed from the new half down a flight of steps, through an underground tunnel and then up a flight of steps into the lobby area of the old part. The bank entrance is an unmarked door by the side of the Reception desk generally identified by the line of people waiting outside. The exchange rates were slightly poorer at £1= $1.48 CUC compared to £1=$1.50 CUC at the National bank but this is much more convenient and you have a lot shorter wait to get your money.
Tip Three: You can avoid the steps by asking Reception to escort you through the tunnel using the two special lifts.

We found the three restaurants in the hotel cater for most mainstream tastes at prices to suit all pockets. If you are vegetarian you will struggle as meat/ meat products dominate the menu as they do throughout Cuba.
Tip Four: Try the Lobster in the Mediterranean restaurant (you may need to book to secure a table). It was very good.

We found the drinks relatively expensive when compared to other local venues. Bottled water was priced at $2.25 CUC/ 500ml or $6 CUC /1.5L and as it is unwise to brush your teeth with tap water surprisingly not supplied in the room.
Tip Five: Buy your water from one of the shops just outside the hotel and expect to pay $1 CUC for 1.5L.

Overall, if your pockets are deep enough the location of this hotel makes it an ideal base to explore Havana and enjoy its unique atmosphere and ambience.

Room Tip: Try and stay in the newer half of the hotel on the upper floors 4th or higher.

Dear Mr. DArcy,

We would like to thank you for sharing your opinion on how your holiday went at our hotel. We are glad to read that you enjoyed our rooming facilities and your overall stay. Yes, our restaurant prices might be a bit higher than in other restaurants or paladares, but I can assure you that our products are of the best quality, as the lobster you ate in one of the evenings. None of our restaurants need a reservation, they are normally not crowded unless we have a group dining in one of them. Our hotel has several hostess, waiting staff and concierge service that will always be happy to assist you with any reservation you might need.

We appreciate your feedback of your overall stay at our hotel.

Kind regards,

I was a bit worried about food and hotel standards so checked out trip advisor before booking, so glad I did. This hotel is in an excellent spot allowing you to walk to the bars, museums etc. or hop on a bus, taxi, bike or carriage to explore further afield! Alternatively just sit back and relax in the wonderful surroundings and watch life in the Lobby Bar or survey Havana from the rooftop pool.
Couldn't fault the breakfasts, the choice and quality was amazing, worth paying a little extra for your evening meal. Staff very friendly and incredibly efficient.

Room Tip: Outside balconies in the older part - hearing and seeing the traffic (when you want)adds to the expe...

As mentioned in other earlier reviews you cannot beat the location. Make sure you stay in the 'old' part of the hotel if you want the old colonial feel, light filled atrium in the lobby bar with table service and cigar trolley dolly all adds to the atmosphere. If you are a non-smoker, don't worry, the air conditioning must be good but because it was never over powering and the are non smoking areas. True, one lift wasn't working when we stayed but this didn't cause us too many problems and the pool area/roof top bar is great. The grill restaurant was lovely, one of the best meals I have had anywhere and the breakfast buffet is of a high standard (don't expect English style bacon or sausages). plenty of people outside the hotel offering all sorts of trips/taxis/horses/cigars etc but a polite, firm 'no thank you' or 'no thanks I am going home today' normally fends them off. well worth doing the American car/walking tour combo which highlights all the main features of old Havana and really adds to what you find on your own and is reasonably priced with stops for a few mojitos on the way. I can se why this place is rated number 1 we had reports form other hotels which were not too favourable so if you can go for Parque Central.

Stayed in the new wing of this hotel for 4 nights. Facilities are top rate with two roof top pools with amazing views across Havana. Staff very friendly and accommodating, maid service very good. Lots of yummy food to choose from at breakfast and the coffee is lovely. Bed was so huge i couldn't find my husband but very good nights sleep.

Walking into the beautiful hotel reception after such a long journey was dream like. Its Elegant style and its warm atmosphere made the journey melt away.

Only downsides mini bar prices a bit high and so to is dinner in the restaurant but its 5* so expect it to be expensive. Also can be a lot of road noise due to location so take ear plugs, we were so glad we took bioears.

In such a good location obviously in parque central but you are really close to museums, gallery's, capitol building, restaurants and bars. If i go back to Havana i shall use this hotel with confidence.

I find it dificult to rate this hotel. It's in an amazing location, it has 2 pools (though not enough loungers) excellent food, one of the best breakfast buffets you will find anywhere, but the staff let it down. I don't know whether it's because it is owned by a Spanish company who are running a tight ship, but there isn't enough staff. Every other hotel I stayed in Cuba had lots of staff, wages are cheap, but at checkin here, they generally had only 2 staff on, when they have massive groups checking in. They only have 1 set of doors open, so everyone trying to get in & out of 1 door is crazy, especially as the doorman is only interested in actually helping you, if you want him to get you a cab or a tour, so he can get his cut. I arrived in the rain, no ne helped me with the door or my bags. Checkin, was no hello or anything, again no offer to help with the bags. I had asked to be in the old part with a view of Parque Central, which they did do, the room is fine, large with a safe. The pool in the new part is lovely, the old part is a bit dated but great views. The jacuzzi only has 1 jet that works, but the most ridiculous thing is the pool towels, you check them out, that's fine, but I was almost tackled at the lift when I tried to go down to my room with it, I was expected to get in the lift wet, with just my bikini on!!! Seriously just have pool towels in the rooms, if they aren't there when you check out, bill them. To be honest the whole tone of the hotel was set from the booklet in the room, insted of "guest info" it was called "guest rules" basically stated, you abey the rules or we cancel your booking!!! It's a very busy hotel, definately under staffed for the amount of guests, and this really shows. It has 3 lifts in the old part, 1 constantly didnt work for the 5 days i was there, the other 2 are very slow. So if you don't mind being treated as if you are nothing, ths hotel does good facillities & is in a great location, but it wasn't the Cuban people I had experienced everywhere else.

Room Tip: If you want a view then ask t be in the old part of the hotel on 600's or 700's, with a view...

Dear Tina H.

We would like to thank you for choosing to stay at our hotel. We are disappointed to read that you didn't find our staff friendly and that you have gotten the perception that we are understaffed. I would like to assure you, that, a hotel running at its top capacity, cannot operate understaffed and checking our May records I can guarantee you that our front desk was completely operational. When we have many check-ins at the same time, we divide the agencies in different parts of the lobby in order to speed up the check-in process and maybe that was the case when you arrived. We apologize if you felt our staff was not kind to you, we are always training our staff and we have surveys of customer satisfaction twice a month, besides the client's book and the management always present (including me) in order to assure that the attention is given to our customers.

Unfortunately we have a problem with 1 of our lifts, this situation is not in our hands and we can promise you the hotel's management has already done everything in their hands in order to fix it. We need to wait for the spare parts as they are not available in Cuba.

Once again we apologize for the perception you took back home.
