“Great base for first visit to Cuba”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

Had completed lots of research about this Hotel and Havana well in advance as really looking forward to the holiday.
The Hotel is everything that encapsulates the atmosphere of Havana. Colonial and atmospheric from the word go. Staff polite but not over the top. previous reviews about surly staff intrigue me. In real life, these guys are there to get through their busy day and I would imagine a great deal of their clientele are business persons who don't expect a lot of fuss.
Lobby amazing with dining adjacent. Reception staff stated that we had a great room selected and they were not kidding. Expansive colonial style three bed room with balcony overlooking the busy square. Atmosphere levels cranked up again! Massive closet with safe, enormous bathroom! Again very well decorated atrium style area outside room. Mini bar stocked with water, soft drinks and beer at guess this NORMAL prices and ice cold.
Rooftop bar wonderful venue with inexpensive cocktails, attentive staff. Food was mixed grill themed but delicious. Great view.
Breakfast was varied and set you up for the day in old town Havana. Were allowed free access to rooftop pool of Hotel next door.
Overall great experience and to be recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for triple on floor 1 overlooking square. Use pool facilities next door.

Stayed 4 nights.
Excellent location.
I found the breakfast good and varied, in comparison to some reviews here. Don't bother with evening meals though.
Renovation seemed to be complete with my room in excellent condition.

Staff mostly friendly and good, though one waiter 'tracked me down' after moving from outside to the restaurant and basically accused me of trying to stiff him the price of a drink - "will you pay me! Will you pay me!"' was his polite introduction. Manager didn't seem interested in his rudeness.

Lifts are a bit dodgy, patience recommended.

Must congratulate Agneta on creative towel/bedding sculptures, especially when encouraged.

Room Tip: See if you can get a room that doesn't look inside to the atrium, I assume there are outward fac...

I stayed at this hotel recently and was a little disappointed. It's in a good location and far cheaper that the Park Central hotel which is also on the same square. Being the oldest hotel in Havana it dose have some interesting features. However the bedroom was dark, the hair dryer totally inefficient and there was cellophane wrapping still on the various lamps. A nice feature was the towels which the maids turned into sculptures. I did leave one CUC daily for the maids and was rewarded with a polite little note of thanks and good wishes for a good onward journey. The staff were generally pleasant.

The hotel was at times noisy, especially on Saturday night, as might be expected from such a central location. However, the worst thing was the breakfast with food tasting stale despite looking quite inviting. I didn't have any other meals at the hotel so can't comment.

There was supposed to be a swimming pool on the roof but all I saw was a hot tub which was not in use. There's a roof top bar where you can order food and on the evening I was at the bar there was some entertainment in the form of a small band. It's nice to sit In the open away from the hustle and bustle below. When wanting to exchange money at Reception I was told that they didn't have any at that time! This was about 9.30-10 a.m.

The hotel is near to the Opera House but unfortunately it was closed during my stay.

There are plenty of regular taxis, bicycle taxes and coconut taxies readily available at the front of the hotel.

Go there for it's central location if you are on a limited budget. The Park Central certainly looked very nice but is a lot more pricey and not having stayed there I'm unable to comment further.

Wherever you decide to stay I'm sure you'll enjoy Havana.

Hotel looks good on outside. Lovely old building and staff usually helpful. The rooftop bar very nice and staff friendly. The bedrooms pretty dark and dreary and the breakfast absolutely terrible - stale cereals, croissants like rocks, 'hard' boiled eggs and rubber pancakes! Toast not too bad as you toast the bread yourself. The location good for everything though....

This is a wonderful hotel with a great location in Habana Centro. It is literally within walking distance of Habana Viejo. It is also two blocks away from El Floridita, Los Nardos and across the street from the Paseo del Prado. I recommend asking for Augustine - he is very helpful and friendly. I have to admit that the buffet breakfast is a bit lackluster. The windows / balcony door have no insulation so you hear the traffic on the street. No internet was available and I gathered from the posting that this was not going to be available during my stay. The room was cozy however I didn't go to Cuba to stay in my hotel room. I've read other complaints about the hot water; I had hot water but didn't use it - I have to say, "It's Cuba, who cares?" I stayed here for 3 days and had a wonderful time walking to everything. Depending on the day, the reception staff was friendly or icy. It was a good place to shower mid-day when I needed it. I highly recommend this hotel and bear in mind that it is not a hotel in the US or Europe.

First, you should reserve your hotel in advance because the price is much more higher if you didn't. The first thing the guy at the front desk told us was : "Have you seen the price, it's very expensive in here." Very unpolite to greet customers this way... The room was shabby and the bathroom even worst. At least, it was clean. The breakfast was not good etheir.

Hotel Inglaterra is ideally situated for exploring Old Havana. it is a beautiful old colonial hotel with lots of character. We stayed 4 nights here before moving to Varadero. The staff were friendly and it was a treat to have the door opened for you! When I read previous reviews I found that some rooms did not have a balcony, so I asked my son who speaks Spanish, to email. The hotel got back really quickly and said as it was a package holiday they couldn't guarantee, however we were delighted to arrive and find a balcony overlooking the square. Wonderful! (Too small to sit on but what a view!)
The staff were helpful and it was easy to exchange sterling for cucs.
Our room was perfectly satisfactory with free safe provided and mini bar reasonably priced. The shower was powerful and bed comfortable, air conditioning worked well, we didn't find it too noisy even though coming from England we are not used to air conditioning! The chamber maids did a lovely job each day too.
Breakfast was a buffet with lots of choice, quite tasty, although I'm not sure on Cuban fruit juice!
We ate out every night, lots of lobster and mojitos at great prices. The last night we went to the rooftop terrace, we thought this would be expensive but were surprised to find that the drinks were mainly 3 cucs there too. The views were lovely and the dinner good. All in all a lovely stay.
