My partner and I stayed here for 4 nites recently and found the hotel to be below average on many things. It very much needs some money spent on the rooms and they could be so much nicer. The staff seemed very abrupt and lacking in care all round. The pool was filthy and looked pretty disgraceful until they finally cleaned it after 3 days!! Food was poor but there was a snack bar so you'll never starve. The grounds were badly maintained and it really makes you think they can't be bothered.

We stayed in the bungalows for a couple of nights and to be honest, we're glad it wasn't any longer. The apartments were in pretty poor condition and had more of a "motel" type feel and although there was certainly potential for it to be better it needs a thorough over-hall. The pools are ok, although not all in use and not very clean. The "beach" is nothing like a beach, just a derelict concrete area with access to an area of sea. The Italian restaurant inside the main hotel and small bar were good value for money, but sadly it fell short on all other areas... it looks as though it once was nice, but simply hasn't been looked after or maintained. If you need somewhere to sleep for a few nights while you explore Havana City, then it just about passes and I guess it did have a certain small charm that grew on us, but not a place to stay for any longer than a couple of nights...

As with many hotels in Cuba, maintenance is a problem. Windows are rarely cleaned and small things never get repaired. Stayed two nights on a tour and found the rooms adequate and the food quite good. Unfortunately the Cubans seem to think that very loud entertainment at dinner is a good thing but we did not appreciate it. Have to mention the winding pool in the apartments next door to which you have access. This is excellent and very unusual. Just as well as the less said about the seafront the better.

Could be a great place to stay but it isn't or wasn't in our case.Good points are the pools. But not if half of them are empty! The beach you are kidding me it is like sunbathing in a car park.
Came up from a southern beach resort to be very disappointed in the hotel. The bungalows were in a lovely setting but inside they are a bit tired.Meant for 2 people with self catering option it would have been nice to have a complete set of crockery and coffee making facilities.
We were given breakfast but it was not a good experience. Some very weird choices of food(cold cauliflower)amongst breakfast choice IF there is anything to choose!Tables were not replenished with napkins, cups, knives forks etc and staff were surly and unhelpful if you asked for some.Go for an omelette but make sute it's cooked properly. It really was quite stressful just to get breakfast.
The italian restaurant saved the day at lunch and the evening meal and also had good wine.
You are a fair trek to the city but the hop on/off bus just over the road from the main entrance is brilliant. You can stay on it to get your bearings before you explore or haggle with a taxi for a cheap ride to town.
If your on a short stop the hotel is ok for longer i would find somewhere nicer

We stayed at the Comodoro Hotel during our recent stay in Havana from March 24 - March 31, 2012. It was great, very quiet and having the winding pool outside of our terrace was amazing. The stay was very pleasant. Our room was always clean and nothing was stolen. However we chose to keep our valuables locked in our suitcase as opposed to using the room safe for our own peace of mind. Each day our room attendant made fancy shapes with our hand towels which was always a pleasant surprise. The arrangement with the flowers was incredible. In regards to water pressure, we had no issues with either the hot or cold water... But the hot water was hot... 50 degrees hot! We also had toilet seats which seems to be a luxury in most parts of Havana and ample toilet paper though not as soft as what we were used too. I would suggest that you bring your own daily supply because toilet paper is available at a cost when outside the hotel. Oh... And don't think you have to tip everyone at least a CUC... Coins are fine.... Especially for the washroom attendants. Oh... Now let's get back to the hotel. There is a whole wing that is falling in to the sea but you can still walk up and explore it, no one stops you. The hydro pools were there, they looked beautiful but they did not have water in them and the entrance was locked. The hydropools appeared to not have been used for quite some time. We never found the gym, wellness area, disco or water sports... But that was okay for us because we were in Cuba to explore Old Havana. I would definitely recommend getting on the Hop On Hop Off double decker tour bus. It costs 5 CUC's and is a great way to travel, see Havana, and get your bearings. We also hired a tour guide for the day who took us through Old Havana which was priceless. We paid him 20CUC, which is high, but well worth it. In regards to the food at the Comodoro, we had the breakfast plan which was always good. If you go with an open mind and try something new, you'll be pleasantly surprised. For all of our other meals we ate at paladars, local restaurants, and cafe / bars with live entertainment. Cuban food is very flavourful and fresh. Staying at this hotel is a good way to be able to go the busier parts of Havana but still have a nice quiet retreat when you need it.
