We stayed at the Atlantico Hotel so we were lucky enough to enjoy this beautiful beach every day for two weeks.
It is very safe with Security everywhere to keep an eye on things. The Cuban families were very friendly and on occasions had invited us to join them while walking along the stretch from the Atlantico to the town of Guanabo.
The beach is one of the most beautiful we have seen and great for swimming or body surfing when the surf is up which happens most afternoons when it gets a bit windy. This beach is much nicer with the local Cuban families enjoying the beach than the ones in Varadero with all the foreign tourists.
On weekends there is lively Cuban activity with people dancing on the beach to Salsa music and it was so much fun to be part of it.
We loved the whole atmosphere on the beach! It was fantastic and can't wait to go back!
When walking to Guanabo there is a bit of a river that you might have to walk through on occasion unless the tide is very low then it is dry. The bridge is under construction but did not see much activity in replacing it. Also further down the beach there is a building in ruins which blocks the beach but you just have to go around it for a bit. Not much of a problem.
This beach is not very crowded at all except for the beach in front of the Tropicocco Hotel which we kept away from.
We recommend this beach highlyand is well worth it even if having to come by bus for anyone not lucky enough to stay at the Atlantico.
