Just go with an open mind. Amazing buildings, fab cars & interesting bars & restaurants. The people are friendly & proud, there is a lot of poverty. Your sense of smell will be well & truely tested.
I feel there is optimism here for the future & I wish them all well. All life is on show as you walk around, they are happy without all the clutter we have.
The cocktails & food is very good. Get out there & enjoy.

Every turn, every street, every corner, the sights will amaze you. Old Havana is filled with historical sites and incredible works of art... many of which you will not find on any map but by wandering and gazing for anything that can catch your eye! Old Havana is a gem!

Wonderful Vibe, like stepping back in time. Oozing with charm.
What an experience to saunter down the back streets & enjoy the lovely buildings. Not all the buildings are in good repair, but it is so characterful

My husband and myself travelled to Cuba with two other friends. We stayed in Varadero (which is fantastic by the way) and decided to visit Havana for two days. We have booked by ourselves with air BB. We've stayed in Carlie house and our host couldn't be more welcoming! We were right by the Capitol Building so walking distance to all must see attractions.
On the first day we did classic car tour with Raul, he showed us around Havana and took us for some nice Mojito's.
Day after we did horse and carriage tour and our guide took us right to the old town. Havana is amazing, so much to see and do. The people are friendly and nice it felt safe even late at night.

Exciting and exhilarating city. Very safe and lots of fun for independent exploration. US citizens have to complete one cultural activity during their visit and are then free to roam on their own.

Great walking area -- plenty of fascinating architecture, restaurants, shops, etc. Easy to walk around the area. Also seemed safe and comfortable even with a few rather aggressive folks trying to sell things to tourists.

Old Havana is a run down area with people living in what once were grand buildings. This is an opportunity to see up close what a third world country run by dictators looks like. The old cars from the 50's have been painted many times over and the engines are from China or Korea albeit piece together. We stayed at the Malia hotel which was in New Havana and was quite good. We took in a show at the famed Tropicana which is one of those check list things too do.
Spoke to several Cubans who are hopeful that the new president will do more for the people.

Much better than we expected. Beautiful city, even though many older buildings are in disrepair. Beautiful scenery, especially if you love old cars We thought we would see a few old cars, we saw nothing but old cars. We went to 3 different places that Hemingway used to go to, but because of the crowds of people couldn't even get close.
At the Floridita, the famous daiquiri bar, twice we tried to get in. Tthe doorman said if we came back around 7pm there would be less of a crowd.
