Our guide for Havana brought us here and then the guide of the museum talked us through Earnest Hemingways life. It was very good.

Ernest Hemingway's home of 20 years has been preserved pretty much as he left it. The sprawling house is at the top of a hill broken by several terraces. Although you cannot enter the house, you can look through the doors and windows to see his books, paintings, mounted animal heads from his hunting expeditions, and at least two of his typewriters. The property includes a tower which you can climb to see where he did much of his writing and get a beautiful view of Havana, a swimming pool, and his boat, the Pillar. Near the boat are the graves of several of his cats.

We had a French-accented female guide who did a great job of presenting the history of the house and its occupants. The location is gorgeous and you can see why Hemingway stayed and found it inspiring.

We were sent on a wild goose chase of a detour, but once we arrived at Finca Vigia, it was worthwhile. You cannot enter the house, but you can look through the windows and doors, and walk the grounds. When you walk up to Hemenway's office, you have a beautiful view of Havana. Again, you cannot enter the office but there are women who will gladly take your camera and photograph his belongings. Make sure to go see his boat and pool (empty).
