Visited the place several times during a trip to Havana, each and every time they surpass my expectative, seafood always fresh, the attention was to the detail, The Cuban "Jaiba" and the octopus left us wanting more. Was surprise of the varieties of seafood available, After visiting others similar places in Havana, La Fontana take the first Place Hands down. Will visit again.

“A very enjoyable evening”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2014

If you are staying in a hotel near (or in) the old town of Havana, beware, the taxi fare to this and other restaurants in Miramar, will set you back at least 10 cuds (each way) which is approx. equivalent in dllrs/euros. Also, our taxi driver had to ask twice before he found the restaurant so take a map to show him where to go! We had reserved a table for two and although arrived early before the reserved time of 7h30 pm (no other patrons) we were warmly welcomed and seated to a very nice table next to the fountain and pre-dinner drinks were ordered and delivered swiftly. Unfortunately, several items on the menu were unavailable (a large party of Chinese diplomats had booked all the lamb and goat and there was no cheese, anchovies or bruschetta to make up some of the entrées…) However, despite reading that no live music was available on Mondays, a group of musicians soon appeared to entertain us and the many people now arriving at the restaurant. There is an air conditioned room (dark and gloomy) so we opted for the (very large and roomy) patio where the ceiling fans do a good job. The personnel who speak very good English, are professional and seemed genuinely interested in making our evening an enjoyable one to remember. The food was delicious. Both starters of grilled eggplant and the other of crab were excellent. The main courses of chicken and slices of grilled beef were also well cooked and nicely presented. Maybe not very Cuban cuisine, more international, but that was why we had chosen this particular restaurant. We ended our meal without a dessert but my husband was given a cigar and we both enjoyed a complimentary glass of rum to sip while enjoying the music which was so good we bought a CD and listening to this back home we happily remember our evening at La Fontana.

“Don't miss having dinner La Fontana if you are visiting Havana”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2014

La Fontana ended up being a last minute booking for dinner as our first choice fell through, something which at the time we regretted but that didn't last for long.

Great service (even though our waitress apologised for her English) which we thought it was excellent. Wonderful live music from a traditional Cuban group and then there was the food which was sublime and make sure you go there hungry because the portions are big and you won't want to leave a thing because it tastes so good. I was warned that Cuban food can be a bit dull, not here that's for sure.

They were trying so hard to please their customers. The food was very good, specially coconut ice-cream.

“Great Food Experience in Havana”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2014

I was in Cuba in May 2014 to watch my son complete in an athletic championship in Havana as a member of the United States team. I was introduced by my son's coach to Ernesto, a hard working 46 year old guy who started La Fontana in the 90's when Cuba allowed privatization. He opened with three tables and twelve chairs. After years of hard work, the place is beautifully built out and decorated. I dined there three nights in a row. The food, the service, the staff, all terrific. This is not a government owned restaurant. It's privately owned, and there's a big difference. This is the real thing. Their specialty is grilled meats and seafood. I had terrific lobster, snapper, octopus, rabbit and goat. I couldn't stay away from the place. Their coconut ice cream is home made and wonderful. The bar serves very sophisticated cocktails. I'ld call it Cuban fusion. I miss it already.
