We had booked Alas for one night as we were just overnighting and wanted to be fairly close to the Viazul terminal. The location in a residential area of Miramar is otherwise the only drawback - it is too far to walk to/from the Old Town and you always have to rely on taxis.
This small hotel is located in a beautifully renovated small mansion and very secure behind an ornate wrought iron fence. We were warmly welcomed by receptionist Gabriel who furnished us with local information, booked a taxi for the morning, and offered us a very competently prepared daiquiri.
We gasped with joy when we saw our room, this was certainly the best accommodation in eight different places in Cuba. A large room, spotlessly clean room, minimalist but beautifully furnished, with a huge comfortable bed, safe, TV, minibar, sufficient hanging and storage space, good lighting, excellent aircon and WiFi. And a fabulous bathroom with a great walk-in shower, fluffy towels and good toiletries. Cool and trendy, and exceptional for Cuba!
Unusually for Cuba, breakfast was included in the rate. It was the regular local breakfast with juice, fruit, eggs, bread and jam, although I think other options may be available instead of eggs.
Check-out was as professional as check-in. I wish we could have had a place like this when we returned later to stay in the old town of Havana.More
