We stayed at the Bellafonte May 16th-May 31st. This is our seventh trip to Bonaire and our seventh stay at the Bellafonte. My husband and I have traveled throughout the Caribbean on business and pleasure and have stayed at many hotel properties, but the Bellafonte is at the top of our "favorites" list. The hotel has 18 oceanfront single and double suites and two studio island view rooms. We stay in a beautiful senior (one bedroom) suite on the third floor (the property has an elevator). There is a large terrace/balcony with absolutely breathtaking views of the turquoise blue caribbean sea. The floors are marble with fully equipped kitchens. There is a large living room/ dining room with comfortable furniture, cable TV and CD players. The bedroom is spacious with a king sized bed and generous closet space. A safe is provided for your valuables. The bedroom is air conditioned with a well functioning wall unit; ceiling fans and the ocean breezes keep the other living spaces comfortable. The bathroom is modern with a marble floor and shower. Water pressure has always been great.
The Bellafonte property is located in the quiet residential neighborhood of Belnem just south of the airport. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with native plants- many in flower. We wake up each morning to the birds singing and that amazing ocean view. There is a large jacuzzi on the terraced deck. The hotel has a private pier/dock that has just been completely renovated and is a favorite "hangout" for sunning during the day, magnificent sunsets in the evening and star gazing at night. Snorkeling and diving can be done 24/7 off the pier. There is a locked gear room and rinse tank for your scuba equipment.
The dedicated general manager of the Bellafonte, Robert, is a wonderful host and along with his attentive and professional staff have given us first class personal service. They have done everything from shopping and stocking our refrigerator prior to our arrival to arranging for last minute New Year's Eve reservations at a popular restaurant. There has been no question we have asked or request we have made of Robert that he didn't follow up immediately, fully and to our great satisfaction. Finally, the housekeeping staff is as good as you will find anywhere. They work hard to keep our suite absolutely spotless.
We highly recommend the Bellafonte without hesitation. We'll be back in October and hopefully for many years to come.

Kudos to Robert and his outstanding management of this beautiful property--everything from cleanliness, comfort, amenities, staff receptiveness/helpfulness is excellent. They really made my vacation very comfortable, memorable and wonderful.
The property is very close to the airport yet noise was never an issue. For divers, the Yellow Submarine (an excellent dive shop) is less than 2 minutes away by car. I defintely will return and stay here again in the near future.

I can highly recommend this condo after my boyfriend and I spent a fantastic week here. The managers were friendly and helpful and let us check in early at 6:30am without charge. The condo is beautiful with a fully equiped kitchen. The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom clean and upscale with natural marble. We are divers and found the location to be great. We used the dive operation at Port Bonaire with the convienent drive through tank pick-up. The rates are extrememly reasonable considering how nice a place it is. The web site provides nice pictures [--].

In November we traveled to the ABC Islands. See my reviews on Aruba Marriott and Curacao Marriott if you are planning to hit all three islands. We flew to Bonaire from Curacao on DAE. It is a short flight on a comfortable airline.

Hotel - we booked a studio room via the internet. We were pleasantly surprised at the roominess of our studio. There is a small separate bedroom with attached bath. A fully stocked kitchen with full-size refrigerator, sink and stove. A living room, with a sofa, table, chair, television and a wonderful balcony. We had room 303. It has an excellent full ocean view. One afternoon we saw a school of dolphin swim in to jump and play around the dock. The snorkeling off the dock is good. Swim out from the tip of the dock where the coral is located.

Food – We ate breakfast at Zeizich one morning. Service was extremely slow and the food was just okay. We highly recommend eating at Julio’s, a little small building in the downtown area, about 1 or 2 blocks off the ocean. The food is excellent and there is a lot of it and it is reasonably priced. We each had a half order of pork chops, which includes 2 pork chops, rice and Aruban sauce, French fries, plantains and a beer for about $6. We could not eat a full dinner that night. Our favorite dinner places Capriccio – the tiramisu is a must and La Guanica we tried 6 or 7 tapas. Everyone was delicious.

Snorkeling – Andrea I and II were our favorites. The entrance to Andrea I is very difficult because you have to snorkel through a narrow channel in the coral through shallow water. Your tummy barely clears the coral, including fire coral, as you enter the water. It was also difficult to get out. Lucky for us, someone threw our water shoes out to us so that once we cleared the channel in the coral, we did not rupture our feet on the dead coral beach. We saw a large sea turtle at Andrea I. Andrea II was our favorite. It is easy to get into the water. There is an amazing variety of coral in shallow water and tons of fish. We felt like we were in an aquarium. A school of Sergeant Majors started swimming below us and watching our every move. Then, a school of Yellowtail Snappers joined the Sergeant Majors and we became surround by fish. They swam with us for over an hour. My husband said he felt like the Pied Piper. It was almost as if the fish were viewing us. There is a wide variety of fish and coral at Karpata. We liked this one better than 1000 Steps, but entrance into the water was difficult. We saw a squid here. The entrance into Ol’ Blue was difficult, it was windy and the water was choppy, but the snorkeling was excellent. We enjoyed 1000 Steps. It is easy to enter the water, there is a large variety of fish, but it is a popular spot so there were lots of people in the water with us. Windsock is good and has an easy entrance. Pink Beach is just okay. It is easy to enter the water, but you have to swim really far out to see coral. When we were only knee deep in water, we were surrounded by large Parrot Fish and Yellowtail Snappers.

We met Captain Mike outside Karel’s bar and purchased a trip over to Klein Bonaire from him. He’s a middle-aged Canadian man who reportedly has lived on the island for a long time. We were disappointed with Captain Mike because we negotiated a three hour, three snorkel site trip. However, Capt. Mike took us to one stop and offered to take us to another spot for an extra $25 each. Once we entered the water, Capt. Mike drove off and left us for an hour. Good thing nothing happened. I would not suggest you do business with Captain Mike. However, Capt. Mike’s assistant, Fernand is awesome. He was born on Bonaire and attended school in Amsterdam. He can tell you a lot about the culture and people of Bonaire. I’ve never seen anyone dive as deep as Fernand with only a snorkel mask and fins. He was very knowledgeable about where the fish and turtles like to hide. The coral is amazing on Klein Bonaire and the variety of fish was amazing. We saw a 2 Green Sea Turtle, a Hawksbill Turtle and a huge White Spotted Eagle Ray. Klien Bonaire should not be missed. Fernand introduced us to the woman who runs Julio’s and told us the good places to eat. Fernand hopes some day soon to buy his own boat and start taking tourist on snorkel trips. If he has a boat when you are there, go out with Fernand.

This was our second stay at Bellafonte. We think it is still an unbeatable place to stay on Bonaire. The units are in wonderful shape, the property is located directly on the water, and the management is top notch. We stayed in a "senior suite" and it was awesome. The large balcony which looks out over the water is breathtaking. I don't think we could ever tire of the view.

We have an entire trip report with lots more photos on our sunnytripreports web site.

Overall we still highly recommend the property.
