“Foodie Heaven in Dive Paradise”
Reviewed April 3, 2011

Last year, on my first visit to Bonaire we tried the newly opened Appetite. We were amazed to find such a jewel of a restaurant in the tropics. We were looking forward to a return visit this year and were hoping they had maintained their culinary standards in a sea of restaurants options in Kralendijk. We were not disappointed. Not only did the chef and staff meet our expectations, they surpassed them. While maintaining a shockingly low fixed price for their Appetite menu, they have clearly been doing their culinary homework. We greedily ordered 6 courses, thinking that the portions would be New York -small. However 3 or 4 plates would leave most people stuffed. At $10.00 per plate it is an amazing bargain. Each plate we had was an inspired combination of local and/or imported flavours presented with innovative sauces and accompaniments. One of my favourite courses was a grilled barracuda steak served with slices of rare veal on top of a bed of creamy risotto, surrounded by perfectly cooked green and white asparagus spears and split grilled shrimp, and drizzled with a lobster caramel sauce. My husband, who ordered more plates than I, enjoyed an interesting combination of sliced rare beef tenderloin, served with a Stilton sauce and served in a crispy raspberry tuile. We enjoyed our first meal so much that we went back on our last night on the island. We enjoyed an alarming number of plates on both nights and there was no duplication of dishes, but just a consistent quality of food, flavours and beautiful presentation. These people are delivering food for the discriminating palate and are not even trying to cater to the throngs of cruise ship visitors that cram this small town during the day. Sorry cruise visitors: this little jewel is only open at night for those of us lucky enough to stick around for dinner. We have eaten at the majority of the restaurants in Bonaire and Appetite is exponentially better than any of the others. We are looking forward to another visit to Bonaire, and a highlight will once again be another visit to Appetite.

“Can't say enough nice things about this restaurant!”
Reviewed March 2, 2011

After feeling like we were destined to eat mediocre tourist food when we were in Bonaire, we happened across Appetite one night - a quick look at their menu outside proved to be encouraging and my fiancé made reservations for Valentine's night and what a perfect evening it turned out to be! That evening we ordered off the regular menu and everything was delicious, the ambiance is modern and chic, the music the perfect match to the environment and we had the spunkiest waitress that completed our experience. On top of all that, the pricing was completely reasonable.

We tried a couple more restaurants during our time on Bonaire and chose to return the last night we were there because it was guaranteed to end our vacation on a high note. This time we did the tasting menu - the small plates that other reviewers have mentioned - and just when we thought they couldn't top the last course, something else amazing arrived.

Everything about our evenings at Appetite was spectacular. The only down side at all is that we can't go there all the time.

“Absolutely delicious!”
Reviewed January 4, 2011

We dined at Appetite on New Year's Eve and it was the best meal we've had in a long time. We ordered the 4-course surprise tasting menu. You basically let the server know what you don't like or what you are allergic to and the chef prepares 4 surprise courses for you avoiding those ingredients. All 4 courses and the amuse were decadent, light, yet full of flavor. Bonaire has a lot of great restaurants but this one was a clear winner among them. Delightful high-class dining and atmosphere.

“Not the old island atmosphere Appetite”
Reviewed December 13, 2010

Visited Appetite in 2008 and really enjoyed sitting in the lush courtyard in the shade of the big beautiful tree. Went yesterday to spend a quiet Sunday afternoon eating and drinking under the tree, but it is gone. New management has changed decor to modern.
with big umbrellas. Very confused as to why people come to Bonaire and try to create a big city lounge atmosphere. The only reason I would not suggest Appetite to my friends is the atmosphere - we like more cozy settings.

We stayed for one drink which were reasonably priced so can't comment on food, but the interior rooms set for individual groups looked great for dining. The drink server was pleasant and attentive.
Suggestion to management: The servers should not be responsible for cleaning the restrooms during their shift, for obvious reasons.

“Lovely menu, delightful evening!”
Reviewed December 8, 2010

We chanced upon this restaurant while exploring the downtown and based on the interesting menu, decided to give it a try. We were thrilled with the entire experience. The ambiance with the courtyard seating (and an upscale modern feel to the decor) and great music in the background was a sweet entree into the rest of the experience. Our server was knowledgeable of all that was offered on the menu and attentive without hovering. The wine list was good....... and dinner was fabulous!
