Bamboo Bali Bonaire - Boutique Resort
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 15, 2012

We traveled to BBB in February 2010 and we loved it. Two years later, we decided to go back. It was as nice as our first visit. We loved the addition of the pool area and gas BBQs to the property. We could relax in the nice long chairs after our daily dives. Our cottage (Sumatra) was super clean, well equipped (fully equipped kitchen) and very spacious.
This small 5 cottages resort is for every couple or family who wants calm and privacy.
Again, the owners arranged a pickup from the airport to the car rental even if our flight to Bonaire was delayed by one day. This was really appreciated and indicated that the owners are attentive to their customers flight plans.

We would go back anytime. We fully recommend this place!!!

Bamboo bali-First off, if you’re reading these reviews, you probably already know if this is the right type of place for you. If you are looking for an oceanview resort with lots of rooms (and people), a swim up bar, and all the amenities, then this is not the place for you. But, if you enjoy the idea of feeling you have an entire place to yourself, being surrounded by lush, beautiful tropical plants, and waking up to the sound of parrots outside your door (as opposed to noisy neighbors), then look no further.

This was our third trip to Bamboo Bali, and we look forward to coming back several more times. I’m not going to say which cabin is our favorite (I wouldn’t want to lessen my chances that it will be available next trip!), but I will say that there are no bad rooms here. They are all great. The landscaping is always finely manicured and Sebastian and Anno are always willing to help out with whatever is needed. For instance, this trip, the AC in the unit we were about to check into had apparently crapped out, so Anno put us up in another cottage in the meantime, and had it completely replaced that same day. They are always adding new things here to make your stay more enjoyable. The new hot tub area is very secluded and absolutely gorgeous at night, they are apparently experimenting with new wireless internet equipment (it currently works fine, no worries, but it can be a little less than reliable at times), and I hear they are planning on adding a couple of new cottages by the end of the year? Can’t wait. Oh, and if you come in on one of the early morning redeye flights, be sure to let them know that and request an early check in. It costs a little bit extra, but it beats having to wait 6 hours until your room is ready, and they will have some juice and a continental breakfast waiting for you in your fridge.

Like I said, this isn’t luxury living, but you’ll snicker to yourself every time you drive past Captain Don’s or Buddy Dive, and see all the people having to park across the street just to they can get to their room. I’ll take the quaintness and beauty of Bamboo Bali over that mess any day.

If you're traveling to Bonaire you're probably already the type of person who stays a little off the beaten path. However, you may still want something a little more private, quiet, and distinct than the numerous beach resorts along the coast. That's where Bamboo Bali succeeds wonderfully.

With only five cottages you're not going to be crowded out by other people or woken up by loud partying. Each cottage has ample outside seating to relax in the shade and enjoy a beer or a glass of wine. If you're into cooking your own meals then you'll be happy to know that the rooms have hot plates, refrigerators, and all the utensils you'll need. Plus, there are two propane grills on the property. An easy drive down to Van den Tweel for some pre-marinated meat and wine and you can have a very nice and private dinner.

Anno continues to make upgrades to the cottages at Bamboo Bali too. With recently upgraded air conditioning units and plenty of fans you'll be ensured of a sound night of sleep. The two hot tubs and the salt water pool are a welcome place to relax after a long day of diving. Plus, he's got rinse tanks and gear hangers on site.

There are a few things to note about Bamboo Bali, however. It's not on the water, but if you're diving you'll get lots of opportunities to look at the sea. It's also not the vibe that it's going for. There's also lots of little lizards that run around. If you're disturbed by that sorta thing you probably should pick a different island to visit. There are times that the road that Bamboo Bali is on can be noisy (it's the main road on the west side of the island), but in the evening it quiets down nicely. Overall, however, the secluded nature of Bamboo Bali and the quality of the establishment more than make up for any of these issues and help it remain as one of the top spots to stay on Bonaire -- just be sure to book early, because with only five cottages they can fill up fast.

We chose Bamboo Bali for our year-late honeymoon, and we chose it primarily because of the amazing online reviews. We've traveled a lot, and Bamboo Bali is our favorite hotel anywhere. We had our own private hut on the property, shared with only four other huts. We barely saw our neighbors, but when we did, everyone was friendly. The pool area has a small plunge pool and two spas, all beautifully decorated for relaxation and privacy. We went to the spa just about every night and only ran into other people once--it was like having our own private spa! The property is so beautifully landscaped, too. Sebastian was a perfect host--we knew we could get him if we needed him, but he gave us our space, too. The hotel is conveniently located to Kralendijk, too--it's a short drive to restaurants and downtown, and it's a short walk to a good, reasonably priced restaurant at Rum Runners across the street. Rum Runners also has a bar, so if we had an early dinner, we'd often head over for a nightcap. There's also a Chinese grocery within walking distance, which sold everything we could need for breakfast and lunch. I can't recommend Bamboo Bali enough--we'll be back soon! :)

We stayed at the Bamboo Bali Resort from Apr 6 to Apr 20 2012. It was our third stay on Bonaire and we must say it was the best. The Resort is full of fantastic flowers and fauna. The 5 huts are well separated within that beautiful area which is completed by a very nice spa open 24/7 with two whirl pools and a salt water pool. The cozy and comfortable huts are very well equipped: Very good Airco, kitchen, bed, shower, television, WLAN etc.. In front of every hut you find places to sit and read or relax. The area is equipped with two gas BBQs which we used every second day. The owner couple, Vera and Anno, and her son Sebastian are very friendly and supportive. They have organized the whole package for us: A very good pickup car, dive package and, of course, the accommodation. All together a fantastic stay at Bamboo Bali and we hope that our ways will cross again in the future.

What a find. Tucked in its' own little bit of paradise, you'll find the five bungalows that make up Bamboo Bali. The property is beautifully landscaped and thoughtfully designed with privacy and tranquility in mind. Lots of bird song and hummingbirds. There is a private pool area with a salt water pool and two hot tubs. What a relaxing way to end a busy day of beaching and diving. The owners provide multiple rinse tanks and a drying area for scuba/snorkeling gear as well as a drying rack on your private covered porch.

We rented the BALI cottage. The bungalow was immaculate, the king size bed very comfortable and the kitchen nicely set up for meal planning with dishes, pots & pans, microwave, coffee maker and electric tea kettle. The bathroom had a nice shower with good water pressure. There were some basic spices, most likely left by other tenants. The owners supply plenty of bath towels with extra towels for the beach. Each unit has an outdoor eating area on a private deck along with a comfortable outdoor sitting area. There are also a couple of gas grills for tenant use on the property. the owner will provide a cooler if you want to pack a picnic. Throughout the property you will find comfortable sitting areas nestled under a pallapa or palm tree. At night the property is lovely, lit with string lights and candles.

The location is great, located just minutes from diving and just a ten minute drive to town and an easy 15-20 minute drive to nice supermarkets and the airport.

Having the owners on the property was a treat, they are available to answer questions about the island and make suggestions with regard to island activities. They are wonderful hosts and help you with anything you need.

Room Tip: I do not think you can lose no matter which of the five rooms you choose.

Anno, Vera and Sebastian saved our holiday!! We'd been booked into a large resort hotel which we hated. On the second evening on Bonaire we called in to have a look round and ask if there were any rooms available. The place looked magical. The bungalows are set out to give a real impression of privacy and they and the garden full of tropical architectural planting was subtly lit. We couldn't believe our luck when Anno told us there had been a last minute cancellation and we could move in for the remainder of our stay. It was paradise compared to where we were staying and so first thing the following morning we packed up and moved in.

As others have said it's a little oasis. It's great to be able to sit out in the evening surrounded by flora and fauna. On our terrace several bamboo culms have been made into a privacy screen and a little frog has made his home in one of them. He just stays there each evening with his head popped out watching us having a beer in the comfy chairs.

OK it's not on the beach but don your dive boots, sling your fins and snorkel mask under your arm, wrap your sarong around and within 3 minutes you're snorkelling away...fantastic

We'll miss this place.
