We enjoyed our 2nd stay in this unit at Sand Dollar and found it to be just as wonderful as the first. The amenities are as described with everything you could want for. Rental is easy and the owners are quick to respond should you have any questions including where to find that frog fish, tips on their favorite restaurants, and detailed info on the dive sites.

While this is a rental it is also a home and with that comes all the comforts. Everything is in working order, the knives are sharp, the bed is comfortable, there is plenty of hot water and it is kept very clean.

There is food and drink within very short walking distance. Bari reef is outstanding and easily accessible. The staff is friendly and helpful and the office has a source you can contact for delivery of fresh fish to your condo. The grounds are well maintained and there is security although we've never had any problems. Sand Dollar has an efficient process for early/late check in/out.

We prefer the ease of diving with BDA and using their dock. They are steps away from building A.

The owners have provided so many personal touches that help us feel at home during our visit.

I have just spent a week in A-3 at the Sand Dollar Resort. This location is great on the island with fantastic shore diving on site and easy access to other sites north and south. The resort is an easy and enjoyable walk into town along the waterfront and the people were all helpful and friendly. The ground were well kept and maintained which made enjoying the incredible sun sets that much better.

This unit is a studio but very large, nicely decorated and fully equipped. Everything I needed was there. Being a ground floor studio made very easy access to the sea wall and Bari reef which are both right outside. There was a screened in porch which all units didn't have and this along with the ceiling fans meant that i didn't need the air conditioning. The decor is pleasant and i especially liked the stained glass window that allowed great light to enter the room. Not only is it close to the sand beach and reef but the Dive Friends shop is just outside.

A great place to stay when visiting Bonaire

spent 4 fantastic weeks here. loved the ground floor location. so nice to walk out the porch door every morning , coffee in hand to stroll to the seawall. view sunset from the screened in porch or join the other sand dollar guests on the terrace.

one of the best things about sand dollar is the ocean access. even for a person with balance issues, the sand dollar steps are easy in and out of the water. the sand dollar owners are great about replacing steps if they get blown off by storms and more than once i've seen an owner scrubbing algae off a slippery step. new lounge chairs are very nice. the fis on bari reef are awesome.

we were able to order fresh fish from the sand dollar office and have it delivered later that day. therer is a liitle grocery next door and a larger one zung kong, down the road that is a 45 minute round trip walk. between 2 buns is next door. warm baguettes fresh from the oven are onlly 75 cents and their sandwiches are fantastic. we bought a large beef tenderloin from warehouse grocery and enjoyed several meals from it.

the condo itself is everything you would want. within minutes it will feel like your home away from home. it is nicely decorated and very comfortable for 2 couples. the unit gets a nice flow of air flowing through the unit. we didn't use the bedroom air condioners even once in 4 weeks.

the owners are very nice and want to make sure you enjoy your visit.

this is actually the second time i've stayed in this unit and plan to stay there again. i checked out several other units when i was there and this is the one i want to return to.

Room Tip: screened in porches are necessary. even with one, mosquitoes get in.

Great location right on the water, plenty of iguanas to watch. Internet did not reach our room which was inconvenient. Bar noise on Saturday night pretty loud. Well furnished, spacious and nice to have kitchen facilities.

My husband and I stayed at the Sand Dollar from December 14th through the 21st. We have a great time diving and just relaxing. We stayed in F2 which was at the very end of the condo block, so a little haul from the Dive shop, but we managed. We visited 5 years ago and some things have changed. We did not realize there were 2 dive shops onsite. We used Dive Friends this time. We had to enter on the Shore verses the pier, but that was okay. The lockers were really small so we put our stuff outside of the condo to dry. Tanks were available 24 hours and they also had 5 or 6 other locations on the island in which you could get and drop off tanks. That was really nice. We dove next door at Buddy Dive off of their pier at no charge, that was really nice as well. All and all we both completed 19 dives for the week. Our favorite spots had to be Oil Slick and the Pier.

Unfortunately at Oil Slick the one afternoon we just so happen to run up on some kids digging in someone's truck for something to steal, so do not leave anything you would miss in the trucks, lock the doors or keep the windows up, we did if it rained. We did put out sunglasses in the glove box of the truck which actually locked, so that helped. I brought a fold up cooler to keep water and drinks cold, that was nice too. Needless to say we did confront the little thief’s and hope we scared them from trying to steal from others. Sad to know that is the kind of life some people want to lead. I advised the dive shop about it the next day to which she asked if I called the cops. I said with the cell phone I left in the unlocked truck right? She took care of reporting it to the police, whatever that may have entailed.

This area is really for divers, there is not much to do for non divers unless you like to just relax in quiet. They have other tourist stuff, but the diving is what is best! We went to the grocery the first day for breakfast and lunches and ate dinner out. That seem to work out great as the prices are somewhat steep at least for name brand stuff. The Dutch brands are just as good. The one night we got back kind of late, so we stopped at the Pasa Bon Pizza and placed an order, got showers and picked it up and ate at the condo. The pizza was really good. I would recommend that place. The Between the buns cafe was really nice, the ice cream place too. Captain Don's was our favorite.
My husband and I will definately be back sooner before later. We went in their rainy season but were lucky that it managed to rain at night time and be sunny all day long. Last time we came was in July, it was really hot. One thing we did forget was mosquito spray!!!!! They were only bad at night time, and most of the restaurants had some to share.

We came with our family of 6 for Christmas and had a fantastic vacation. The condo is as advertised, it couldn't be more perfect. The kitchen is well equipped, it is great to have a washing machine, and the fact that we eat on the patio steps from the ocean is amazing. The snorkeling is steps away and is very good. We rented scuba equipment from Dive Friends right on the premises and did shore dives all over the island. We bought groceries at Van Den Tweels and were pleasantly surprised at how well stocked it was and at the reasonable prices. We were warned not to buy the milk unless we were used to boxed milk. The meat variety packs made great dinners cooked on the grill at the condo. Stuart answered any questions by email right away. The office staff was very helpful, and people were friendly all over the island. We took a cave snorkeling trip with FLOW which was a real adventure with a great guide, and rented a windsurfer at Jibe Friends. We had no problems with crime, but did follow the recommendations to leave our truck unlocked with no valuables in it when we went diving. We left laundry and gear out to dry on the patio all the time. This is a fantastic place to stay for an ocean vacation!!!

Room Tip: F21 is by far the best condo, private, right on the ground floor steps from the ocean with every ame...

We stayed at the Sand Dollar for a week Nov. 9-16. It was just the two of us, and the purpose was primarily to do lots of shore diving. My husband had been to Bonaire once before (Stayed at Buddy Dive next door), but it was my first time on this island.
We rented unit A1 through VRBO. Arranging everything with the owner, Greg, ahead of time was very easy, and he was always quick to respond to our emails and answer any questions. Then once we were in touch with the on island property manager, the instructions were all very clear for our arrival.
We got in on an early flight, but we were told we would be able to check-in early since the previous guests also left on an early flight. Nice bonus. After picking up our rental truck we decided to drive straight to the condo. We parked and checked out the grounds while waiting for Eddy’s (the on site restaurant) to open for breakfast.
We had breakfast at Eddy’s, and being Sat. they had a nice buffet set up. We were able to relax over several cups of coffee and enjoy a leisurely breakfast. The food was very good and they are just the nicest couple.
We met up with Inge, the property manager right at the unit. We were there promptly at 9:00 and she was already waiting. She went through the whole run down of everything we needed to know. Very nice lady.
The unit is very spacious, with a large living/dining area. The kitchen is large and well stocked with dishes. (We cooked some dinners, most mostly used it for breakfast and easy lunches). The bedroom had a comfortable bed and good clothes storage, with a separate storage room/closet off of it, with a safe. There were tons of hangers too. The bathroom was functional with a large shower. The water pressure was always good and the temp. fine. The AC also worked well, with units in the living room as well as the bedroom. In fact, we found it got quite cold sitting at the dining table, and were often adjusting the temp or even turning it off. The furnishings are simple Caribbean décor. It felt homey rather than hotel like. It is just like the photos.
Then there’s the screen porch. This was our favourite part of this unit. The mosquitoes were really quite nasty at dusk and dawn, so being able to sit outside and listen to the waves, yet not get eaten alive, was a huge plus (just beware opening the door and letting them in!) If not for the screen porch we’d have been inside a lot more. Of course there’s no AC out there, so it did get quite warm, but sometimes there’s a bit of breeze passing through, and it’s well shaded, so we enjoyed it. There are a couple of newer, comfy lawn chairs as well as a plastic dining table and chairs. Lots of seating. There were lots of pegs for hanging dive gear, as well as a plastic drying rack for the smaller bits. We found a fan to bring out there to help dry the gear to pack up.
Now let’s talk about the location of this unit in relation to the complex. It’s a corner unit, so there are lots of windows, and with two sliding doors, you get nice views out over the water. Being ground floor, and to the far south of the property, it is absolutely perfect for divers. It’s so close to the water and the beach. We dove through Dive Friends, who have a location right on site at the Sand Dollar (great dive op, but that’s another review). They have a small building right beside the A1 screen porch with washrooms, a shower room, and a tank room. You get an access code when you dive with DF, so you can get tanks 24/7. So you can literally walk out the screen porch, grab tanks and set up you gear. There are even a couple of benches. It’s then a short walk down a few steps, over the small beach and into the water. Bari reef is a very nice site and we did a few dives there.
The Sand Dollar grounds were fine. It was clean, and certainly offers fabulous views. There were very few people around ever, so it was quiet. There are not a lot of common area chairs/loungers, and the ones there are in pretty sad shape. We didn’t really have any time to sit around in the sun during the day, so didn’t care. The pool is out back by Eddy’s, so if a pool with a view is important, this will miss the mark. We never used the pool even once, since we were in the ocean diving pretty much all day. We do wish they had BBQs to use, but understand that propane is not so easy to come by.
Behind A1 the parking is close, and DF’s have another 24/7 tank room for loading up your truck. It was ridiculously convenient. The Sand Dollar location is nice and centrally located. It’s not to far to head North to dive sites, and not too far South to town, and beyond. There are also some dining options close, and a market up the road (although we opted to shop at Van Den Tweel). Of course nothing is all that far on Bonaire, so we found it easy to pop back to the condo for lunch even.
All in all we really enjoyed our stay in the A1 condo in the Sand Dollar, and love the diving and laid back atmosphere and friendly people of Bonaire. We will return, but next time we would like to stay longer and book 2 weeks.
