If you are a person that is bothered by mosquitoes you will need to bring some deet because the Bonairean mosquitoes will tear you up! Hungry and aggressive during their feeding times of evening and early morning. They start as soon as you get off the plane so if you are doing the red eye flight arriving in the morning they will be waiting for you. We left he airport and headed to the Divi Flamingo which is a short 10 min. ride away. I emailed the Divi the night before to insure there would be no problems with our reservations and got a name during the process. They already had all of my paperwork processed and waiting for me. This went like clockwork. I rented our rooms for the previous night so I didn’t have to wait until 2pm to check in. They will try to put you in a room when you get there but the only way to guarantee that you will not be homeless until 2pm is to rent it the night before. Don’t underestimate this small detail because it is huge when you are attempting to coordinate all that needs to happen when you get there. Breakfast starts at 7am followed by the Dive briefing at 9am. You want that room so you can start unpacking and are ready to go right after the briefing. If you have to wait until 2pm to check in you lose a lot of the first day. Our party of 4 stayed at the Divi Flamingo from October 14th thru the 24th 2010. We stayed in rooms 701 and 705. These rooms each have 2 queen size beds and a full kitchen. Both rooms were nice and the beds were very comfortable. If you bring rechargeable batteries plan on dealing with 127 volts 50 Hz. So what does that mean: If you bring a hairdryer for example the heating element would not be a problem but the fan motor that is made for 60Hz can burn-out. Adaptors for battery chargers, Laptops or cellular phones has a transformer in it and burns out if it is only made for 60 Hertz. How did I find out about this? I am trying to find another power transformer for a rechargeable battery that got fried. Not to worry the dive shop maintains 2 power strips that have a stabilized 120 60 Hz. For American made rechargeable devices. Found out after the fact. The dive shop is very well stocked and can accommodate for anything that was left behind or broken in travel. They rent everything you would need. Here is a travel tip that I will use the next time I go in March 2011. Continental charges $35.00 for a second 50 pound bag. I plan on packing 50 pounds of food in that second bag. Protein bars, Snacks etc. Food on the island (if you are not a local) is extremely expensive and the selection is sparse. Diving was superb! Water temperature hung around 83 degrees and visibility more that 100 feet. Had no problems with anyone trying to sell us stuff or bother us. Everybody left you alone to enjoy yourself. No reports of theft. The only annoyances were from the people that live next door to the Divi. They have a parrot that screams the name “Melissa” until you want to go hit it in the head with a rock. Lol and one of the dive masters that wears women panties on the boat. Some called it a Speedo but it looked like women panties to me. Lol The Hotel is old and we did look at the alternatives while we were there but you just can't beat the location. It’s close to town and makes for a nice walk to the City Café in the evenings just bring deet.

Please realize that Divi was one of the very first dive hotels on the island of Bonaire. And as such does have age working against it. The location is great, the scenery is wonderful, the dive facility it top notch. The Hotel pricing is High, The food is boring and WAY WAY over priced for what you get. 7.50 US for a burger and frys ? And to top off all of these pluses... the staff of the hotel side where surley, snide, and did their best to ingore you ! Now... Why have I been there twice ?? The diving is some of the best in world. I recommend the island but it seems that Divi's day has come and gone..... long long gone.

This beach side resort is way past its prime. It was interesting that their room rates were higher than some newer hotels on the island. We discovered this after exploring Bonaire during our dive vacation last week. Please note that the Dive dive center at Divi was excellent and the entire hotel staff was kind and accomodating.
Even though the beds were comfortable, all other ammenities were missing. Hallway light bulbs were exposed, the toilets barely flushed and general maintenance was lacking and there was no beach. This entire rsort desparately needs a refresh.
The newer hotels offer great dive facilities also and look to provide a better overall experience for divers and their families. Captian Don's Habitat would be a good alternative. We did not move since we had prepaid.

In June I traveled with 21 other people in a dive group to Bonaire. We stayed at the Divi Flamingo Resort, which is just South of Kralendijk. The hotel is a short walk from town. The staff at the reception desk was very friendly and helpful when we arrived. There are two pools at the hotel, one medium and one large: nothing fancy, but fine, with plenty of chairs and lounges, and never crowded. There's a small "spa" at the hotel, and sev. of us enjoyed facials and/or massages during our staff. I myself enjoyed scheduled both, and thought the prices were quite reasonable, and the facial and massage were both quite good. Our room had small balconey with an ocean view which was right near the water. Nice to hear the water lapping gently on the rocks outside. The room itself was very clean and pretty standard: 2 comfy queen beds, good-sized bathroom with tub/shower, a tv with several US stations if we really wanted to catch up on any news, or watch a movie. The room also has a small safe, and a dorm-size refrigerator to keep water, soda, fruit, etc. Our group enjoyed the buffet breakfast in an covered but open area with a lovely view overlooking the water. Eggs, French toast, waffles, and pancakes could be cooked-to-order by the chef there in the dining area. The buffet itself wasn't fancy, but very ample: crisp bacon, sausage, biscuits, hash browns, sausage gravy, various juices from a dispenser, a nice variety of sliced fresh fruits, croissants, bread, and English muffins with toasters available right there, and plenty of coffee. Lunch was served in another area overlooking the water...casual seating and another beautiful view. The menu had a good variety of items, including burgers (very good), salads, and quesadillas (also very good). Our group ate evening meals in town, and there are a good number of very nice restaurants within easy walking distance, incl. Cactus Blue, which became a favorite. Dive Divi did a first-rate job and we were lucky to have Orlando and Enrique alternating as dive masters; although there's lots of shore diving, our group enjoyed reaching dive sites by boat. There are plenty of large individual lockers on the dock (bring your own lock) in which to store your dive gear each night, and large tubs with clean water to rinse out wetsuits, etc., with separate ones for cameras, The diving was great: excellent visibility, not much current, and many beautful fish, including frogfish, seahorses, lizard fish, spotted Eagle ray, several barracuda, angels, trunk fish, etc. and many large schools of brightly-colored small fish that swim over and around you, unconcerned. The reefs were in great shape...it's comfortable, easy, beautiful diving. By the way, sometime while you're there, it's worth a ride to the Donkey Sanctuary. Our group rented and shared several vehicles, as we also toured the rest of the island our final day there. If you have kids with you, or just love animals, it's a hoot to go there to see and feed these adorable, friendly critters that are protected there. Everyone had a ball, and we spent quite a bit of time there, includng making purchases from the little gift shop, and feeding one of the baby orphans. I would be sure to go there again when visiting Bonaire. When it came time to head back to the States, check out was easy, and again, the desk staff very helpful and accomodating. All-in-all, a nice hotel,a very good PADI dive facility, and beautiful diving...I plan to go back soon.

Have been going here since 1991. A chance to get away from the world. You can sit by the pool and read, or snorkel and dive right of the dock. May good place to eat that have fresh fish. Many make thier own bread. Can't beat the diving. Alot to see and eazy access if you don't want to use a boat. You can dive off any hotel pier or shore.
We used AB Car Rental for the car. Got the special which was almost half price.

My husband and I spent four days here after a week in Curacao and loved the location and the dive shop. I had been having problems with my depth/air gauge on my integrated bcd--the big operation we went with in Curacao could not do anything about it and I had to rent a bcd and octopus for the week. Serge at Divi lent me a gauge for the week, hooked it up in minutes, and we were off diving. We went on some great dives, the groups were relatively small, and the staff was always professional.

My husband might say I like nice resorts and the typical "dive" hotel just doesn't cut it. We looked at the on-line room photos of the various hotes in Bonaire before settling on Divi. When we arrived, we found the room to be very basic and in need of an update. The room was, however, cool and clean and exactly like the photos on the internet depicted. The resort itself was also clean and the staff very friendly. The hotel is walking distance from town. There was a small dorm sized refrigerator in our room and a grocery store a few blocks from the hotel. Our only complaint with the hotel was the numerous birds on the tables in the restaraunt. Birds, birds and more birds! The birds did not necessarily wait for you to finish your meal before landing on the table and trying to steal a few morsels. The diving was awesome both from the dock and the boats. The dive shop operates a top notch operation. While you are in Bonaire, you should rent a car and drive around the island. Don't forget to eat at Mama Rosa's and order goat stew. YUMMY! Beware of the mosquitos at night, you will need repellant if you are going sight seeing or out to dinner.
