My partner and I stayed at Inchcape Villas in one of the Seaside Cottages for one week in October - it wasn't enough.
Firstly the architecture and grounds are amazing - colonial buildings restored and maintained with love and care.
We had mixed weather in the week we were there - spectacularly hot with no breeze or torrential storms - the villa was cozy in the storms and cool in the heat (we had a large fan). Tea in morning on one of the two private terraces was a real treat and the whole vibe of the villas is really relaxed - you are left to your own devices but help is at hand if you need it.
Lovely as it was, you don't stay in the cottage all day - we chose not to hire a car and made our way to St Lawrence Gap, Bridgetown and Oistins on the local and state buses. Would suggest a car if staying longer to explore the East and North parts of the island.
We shopped locally for groceries - Make sure you do stock up on drinks/foods when you get picked up at the airport - it is self catering but my one tiny criticism would be that there is absolutely nothing in the cottage on arrival - even a small welcome pack of tea or coffee or some fruit would have been a nice gesture after the long journey and would only have cost a few dollars.
The airport pick up service was efficent, friendly and informative.
The South of the island is quieter than the West but I think Inchcape is in a great location - the beach is beautiful and it feels a bit more like the real Barbados, not the shiny 5* resort one.
Eating out - go with Wolfgang’s recommendations - our particular fave was the Surfers Bar (make sure you seek it out - Steve made us feel very welcome) and go to the Gap as well.
I would go back to Inchcape tomorrow if work would allow and I already have my eye on booking Sunrise Cottage next time round!

We just returned from 3 weeks at Inchcape Seaside Villas. It was an absolute dream. We had the pleasure of staying in both a 1 bedroom apartment and the Seaside Cottage. Both had their own unique attibutes. The cottage was great because we also had a maid and cook, so we were able to enjoy some real "Bajan" home cooking. We had our dinners overlooking the crashing waves. It was unbelieveable! The location of Inchcape was also perfect. We were in walking distance to the wind surfing station which also had surfing, kite surfing, and stand up paddle equipment. Just take a look at some of our pictures, and they speak for themselves!

We were also extremely impressed about Barbados and the people. The food was wonderful, and the grocery stores have everything you need. Another important aspect for us was that we could find great wine!

The people are extremely friendly, and they are happy to have tourists there. We always felt very safe, which is definitley important on vacation.

Brought my girlfriend down to propose to her. We had a little villa, not seaside, but very close. Had an excellent patio, which you could hear the sea from, and was beautiful to relax on. The villa was a little warm staying in at very first, but being Canadians, all of Barbados was warm to us! Once we acclimated, it was perfect. There a resort next door which you can shop at for groceries and pay a small fee to use their pool.

The whole feel of Inchcape Villas was unbelievable. Very relaxing and quiet. Great for couples or families who want to get away. Wolfgang was a fantastic host, and our housekeeper was top notch. The beach is not a calm one, but good for walks along it, and great for windsurfers. However, just 5 minute drive away, is a fantastic swimming/sunning beach, called Miami beach.

Our villa had EVERYTHING provided for cooking (pots, blenders, dishes, etc.). And even a little stereo which you can hook your ipod up to!

Inchcape has a brochure which recommends sights and tours around Barbados, and have contacts for anything your might need (car rentals, etc., and all can be brought right to your door).

Needless to say she said yes!

Overall our stay at Inchcape was quite pleasant and we were very impressed with the beautiful villas on the properties.

PLUSES:
* Absolutely beautiful villas - the pictures do not do the property justice! We stayed in the 1BR Seaside Cottages and our unit had wonderful decor (nearly all white) and was incredibly charming...exactly what a Caribbean vacation villa should look like.
* Location is relatively close to the action on the South side, without being too "in town". Having a rental car here is a must. About a 15 minute drive to St. Lawrence Gap.
* Close to surfing locations on the South side.

MINUSES:
* Lack of air conditioning. We found the south side less breezy than the east side, and so the lack of air conditioning here made for a very hot and muggy evening. (We were surprised our unit didn't have an overhead fan, given lack of AC...only a small stand up unit).
* Occasionally difficultly finding assistance, since we were in a unit without maid service. Unlike a typical inn or hotel where the host / staff are out and about, most of the staff workers here are in another unit, so it took some effort to track someone down to get beach towels etc. However, the staff (once found) were very helpful.
* The location is pretty challenging to find off the main road (leave lots of time to find it your first time)

Inchcape proved the ULTIMATE venue for a Wedding for 26 adults plus children on 8 May, 2008, Inchcape Seaside Villas, Christchurch, Barbados.

Between us, Naomi (the bride) and I have been organising events all over the world for 30 years so we had a tough job trying to find the perfect venue for her wedding. Well, did we find gold!!!!! The villas at Inchcape (we had 11 of the 12) proved the perfect venue for our wedding party. They gave us the feeling of true exclusivity and privacy and we all felt like we were living in our own little village without tourists or locals interfering in our stay. The children were safe to walk around the ‘compound’ between the villas, the maids paid every attention to detail and went way over and above their duties in welcoming and looking after us and their cooking was just fab....They even baby sat for us the night of the wedding....What more could one ask for?

Naomi married at Foul Bay (we were the only people on the beach) and we returned to Inchcape for the wedding dinner at Sunrise Villa. We utilised the Sunrise terrace for a drinks reception and lit the surrounding foliage and balcony area with 300 fairy lights. Wow.... It looked gorgeous and who could fault the view of the beach whilst the sun went down!!! Our sumptuous wedding buffet (provided by Country Caterers) took place on the Sunrise balcony and with the wind to cool us (thankfully) we had an unforgettable evening.

All our guests (who ranged in age from 17 to 60 and included a number of other event planners) commented on the standard of accommodation as being ‘superb’, ‘unique’, ‘more than their expectations could have imagined’,’the photos didn’t do it justice’ !!! There was a villa for everyone – from the family with 2 children to the couples who enjoyed the cosiness of the apartments in the Gatehouse and Seaside Cottages. There is not one single villa or apartment that we would not highly recommend.... Thank Goodness most of us had opted to stay for two weeks – those that left after 9 days (just couldn’t get the time off work) were devastated to leave so early!

If you are thinking of a visit to Barbados, don’t let the fact that there is no pool at Inchcape put you off.... you have the beach on your doorstep as well as a pool next door at the Silver Sands hotel. Okay, the hotel is just a 3-star but for the purposes of using the pool – it will more than suffice...

Many many thanks to Wolfgang, his wife Rosie, Natalie the chief maid, Myra ‘the ultimate in maids’ who looked after everyone at the Sunrise, Norma who looked after us so well at The Courtyard as well as all the other staff at Inchcape for making Naomi’s wedding the most memorable event of our lives.

I would not hesitate in any way, shape or form in recommending Inchcape for a wedding party or a romantic get away.... it’s a real find!
