“Delightful dining experiences”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2014

We ate twice at this lovely, laid back, and fun restaurant. The service was friendly and charming. We enjoyed the fusion cuisine. The sushi was excellent, as was the fish. We came back a second time, because we had so liked it the first.

“Great welcome and service, tasty food, poor wine list.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2014

I guess the title says it all so I will just develop a little.
It's not my first experience at Naru, we keep going back as the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, very friendly service and original menu. I always enjoy the food there. I am so sorry that the wine list is not matching the level of food and service. The choice is very limited on a very expensive wine list clearly coming from only one distributor (?). How come that the cheapest Champagne on the list is more expensive than the cheapest Champagne on the list at The Cliff? We are very very puzzled.
I wish the person in charge of the wine would bring some changes to that wine list and to the storage of the wines.
Indeed,I would like to mention that the white wine was brought warm to our table, which is not acceptable. Same for the red. Too warm.We are now wondering if Naru has a wine fridge. To be fair, our sparkling wine and dessert wine were brought at the right temperature and all the wine glasses for the evening were adequate.
A fine dinner experience doesn't only mean the food is fine but also the wines that are going to be paired with the meal.
We had a very nice welcome from the lady on the front desk and she was very helpful on explaining the menu to our guests.
Our waiter Felix is certainly one of the best in Barbados. He knows the food and his advice were perfect and he did his best to fix the wine weaknesses by bringing ice buckets and chilled glasses. He was also very friendly. It's so nice to meet someone who clearly has motivation in his job and does it superbly. I asked for his name that's why I mention him.
It was a lovely evening altogether despite an annoying wine list. Hopefully next time we go to Naru, this part will have improved.

“Naru Restaurant, Barbados”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2014

We ate at Naru two different nights: once with another couple and another time with my spouse. Ordered the same entree both times; fresh water shrimp. First time, for appetizer,. ordered Wanton soup to split with other party; second time ordered spicy chicken wings to share. Second time ordered dark chocolate mousse cake for dessert - out of this world! Pricy, but worth it! Service, both times, was excellent. Atmosphere (second time) was fabulous - table overlooking ocean & newly constructed boardwalk.

“Huge disappointment”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2014 via mobile

We selected Naru for a night out with friends based on Trip Advisor ratings. All four in our party were hugely disappointed.
It's a lovely setting and we had a good table on the outside deck. That was the only outstanding part of the evening.
The service was very slow and disorganized. We ordered edamame. It didn't show up until we were able to get a waiter's attention about 20 minutes later. Waiter said he was busy with another table. Hello, what about us? Dinner was way over 2 hours not due to multiple courses but due to no one taking our orders and then the kitchen was either backed up or who knows what but getting food took forever. Getting water glasses refilled required asking over and over.
The food was ok at best. We ordered a 10 piece sashimi plate and two of the pieces were tamago - the egg sushi. That does not qualify as sashimi. There is no Japanese beer on the menu. The sake is some weird coconut lemongrass or something flavored. Not much of anything in this restaurant is authentic Japanese.
We won't be back. Who needs that kind of poor service for so-so food. Too many other good places to eat here.

“Very good food with a local touch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2014 via mobile

Good value. Excellent Sushi.... Lobster roll particularly good. Some local ingredients always good to see. Be sure to book waterside table. Slightly ?Greek interior decor left over from previous tenants rather strange, but if you sit by the water it will not matter.
