“This is the nicest resort that our family has ever stayed at.”
Reviewed June 12, 2014

We are a family of four, including a 20 year old daughter and 22 year old son. We all agreed that our weeks stay at Bougainvillea was the best vacation that we've ever had. We stayed in two of the junior suites on the second floor (5218 and 5219). The suites have a small, but very functional kitchenette with a two burner electric stove top, microwave, nice size refrigerator and everything needed for our family. The beds were comfortable. The entire resort was beautiful with the flowers and landscaping, the swimming pools, and the rooms and grounds were very well-maintained. Even the maid service was exceptional, keeping the rooms immaculate during our stay.

The staff was a great resource for helping us make the most of our stay in Barbados. They gave us excellent advice on area entertainment and restaurants. The food at Bougainvillea was good too.

The beaches are beautiful also. We loved just walking along the beaches on the South coast around the resort. We would walk in the mornings towards St. Lawrence Gap and back. It's a nice location too. You're close to Oistin's and the fish fry there, and also to the Gap in the other direction. Taxis are always available to take you anywhere you want on the island. Our first day in Barbados we hire a taxi driver to give our family a full-day tour of the island. We travelled the entire island and the driver was an exceptional resource of information regarding what activities to do and places to visit. We were able to spend as long or as short a time as we wanted at each stop. Taxis are very reasonable on the island so we felt no need to ride the buses.

Tonight is our first night back home in the USA and we're already talking about returning again. It was just a dream vacation at a wonderful resort.

Room Tip: The junior suites are a good value. We stayed on the second floor and had a fantastic view of the o...

We have just returned from our first trip to Barbados and this hotel made our holiday perfect. Check in was easy and efficient, our room wasn't ready when we first arrived as we were slightly early so we were given tokens for the pool bar to use whilst we waited. We stayed in a junior suite which was perfect for us. There is a fully equipped kitchen to use and room is very spacious, we were lucky enough to be given one of the 3 rooms in the hotel that had a private plunge pool at the end of our patio which was a perfect touch!

We only ate in one of the restaurants which was Lanterns by the sea. The food there is lovely and they were very happy to accommodate for my fussy partner and offer things that were not on the menu. Staff were very friendly and always made sure our glasses were topped up. If you are self catering like we were there is a large supermarket 5 minutes away from the hotel (Super centre) where you can buy all the groceries you need. We later discovered Big B super centre which we found offered a lot more choice and preferred it to the Super Centre. There are always taxi drivers outside of the hotel who are very friendly and will take you anywhere so getting around is not problem at all.

I cannot fault this hotel in any way at all and I can fully understand why the reviews are so good. Our room was absolutely spotless and cleaned everyday by housekeeping who did a great job. The grounds of the hotel are kept immaculate by the maintenance staff who you will see during the day making sure everything (pools etc) are kept clean. We would definitely return.

Room Tip: If you are staying in a junior suite request one with a plunge pool if it is available.

Friendly, courteous and welcoming staff in every part of the hotel and grounds. The hotel was immaculate and our room was spacious and comfortable. Although self catering we did eat in hotel on their carribean themed night and thought the traditional food was some of the best we had during our staf on the Island. ALL staff made us feel that nothing was too much trouble. Will be most certainly returning.

Room Tip: Although all rooms have a sea view, the higher elevations give a better view of the turquoise sea.

Hi,

My wife and I spent 10 nights at this beautiful and very friendly resort. It was simply amazing, with great views and local access to the town. The staff were polite, always ready to help and available at any time. The grounds were well kept and maintained. If something was not working, it was resolved withing 10 minutes of reporting it such as the hot water going off, due to essential maintenance works and we received a free bottle of wine for the inconvenience.

The drinks and food are tasty and great to have all day long. Although we spent most of our evenings at St Lawrence Gap and having lovely meals at the local restaurants and bars.

Breakfast at the hotel was always a pleasure, sitting by the beach with weather hot perfect every single morning.

I highly recommend this hotel and will be going back there again next year.

Thank you.

Room Tip: If you are on honeymoon, let them know and you should be upgraded to a honeymoon suite.

We had two nights at this hotel on our way from St.Vincent to Canada and I wish we had more time there. We often stay over in Barbados and we stay in different hotels, but this one is the best one so far.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful; from the front desk staff, to the maids. Everyone had a smile on their face and seemed genuinely happy to be working there. What a treat.

We had a junior suite in the West wing. The room was spotless! It had everything you will need; a kitchenette with full sized fridge, a microwave, a cooker, lots of dishes, dish soap, tea towels and small appliances. The bathroom was spacious and very clean, I loved the rain shower showerhead. Water temperature and pressure were great. The bed was comfy and we had sufficient pillows. Two ceiling fans as well as the ocean breezes kept our room temperature comfy without the need to use A/C, which I do not care for. We had a lovely view of the pool and sea. The patio doors have an extra grate door which locks, so you can sleep with the doors open and still feel safe. The TV is a good sized flat screen with an HDMI port so if you bring your laptop and cable you can watch your own movies or shows. There is more than sufficient storage space for your clothes and stuff. There is a safe in the closet which is easy to use and did not cost extra. Wi-Fi is also complimentary. They also provide two bathrobes and a cloth bag which you can use as a beach bag or for your shopping. You do pay a deposit on this bag and on the beach towels, so do not lose them.

We had the buffet breakfast included in our room package and we really enjoyed it. Lots of food to choose from; cheeses, meats, fruits, yogurt, baked goods, eggs cooked to order as well as some traditional west indian treats such as bakes, plantain, fritters and the like. The coffee was surprisingly good. The service, again, was friendly and efficient.

I cannot find much to criticize at this hotel. I did prefer the West wing to the East wing I must say however. I found the East wing a bit tired looking, the pool very small, and the landscaping very plain. Whereas the West wing has some of the most gorgeous bougainvilleas I have ever seen, a lovely cascading pool, an adult only pool with swim-up bar and just a more 'resorty' look to it. The restaurant at the East wing did look very nice however. We did not eat there, but the menu is available online and it features small plates.

The location of the hotel is not as convenient as some of the others on the south coast, but you can easily walk to the main road and then hop on a bus that will take you in either direction. We took the bus to Oistins one evening, and then leisurely walked back. Buses are cheap, safe and run frequently so this is not an issue.

The hotel beach is clean and lovely and during our stay we had no problems finding shady spots to sit. The sea was quite rough for some of the time, but after a day the red flag was replaced with a yellow one. I found the East wing beach had slightly calmer surf than the west wing, and I was able to swim to my heart's content in spite of the waves.

One last thing. The hotel does not allow aloe vera products, so you may want to choose another type of moisturizer and/or after-sun cream. Apparently aloe vera stains their linens. I wasn't aware of this, but it wasn't an issue since I did not sun burn and I had other sorts of moisturizers.

I would love to stay at this resort again sometime, I truly enjoyed it.

Room Tip: Stay in the west wing, it is newer and much nicer!

After reading the reviews of other holiday makers I selected the Bougainvillea Beach Resort for our annual beach getaway. We stayed in a Superior Studio Suite which has a small kitchen stocked with all the pots, dishes etc you will need if you feel inclined to cook your own meals, and a lounge area for looking at television. The design and decor of the room was suitable for a Caribbean beach hotel, with exposed wooden rafters and window shutters, patio furniture, and traditional Caribbean colors. The bathroom was clean but in need of updating. Free wifi is provided for any number of devices you may have.

The hotel is located on the beach and has beautiful, well kept gardens with its signature brilliant bourgainvilla flowers everywhere. The two restaurants are also located on the beach which adds to the ambience of a beach hotel. There is an adult only pool with a swim up bar which also served drinks to guests lounging at the beach. We dined at the hotel a few times. The food was good especially the dinner we had at the Water's Edge. We also ate at St. Lawrence Gap which is very close to Maxwell Beach, and from Leroy, the man who sells local cuisine from out of his van across the road from the hotel. His servings were generous and very affordable! The hotel provides live entertainment on certain nights which was a nice touch for those who do not wish to leave the hotel at night.

Maxwell Beach is beautiful with its soft white sand. The waters are a bit rough and sometimes have a strong under current but once you are able to get pass the breakers the waves are exhilarating! We had just come from the first leg of our vacation which was at a beach resort in another island where the sea is very calm so Maxwell Beach was a welcomed and enjoyable change. There are many loungers and large umbrellas for relaxing on the beach, and free non-motorized sporting equipment such as boogie boards which were a hit with the younger guests. Beach towels and a beach bag, a convenient and thoughtful service, were supplied for use.

One thing that stood out for us was the provision of a Guest Lounge for those who have checked out but have a long wait before going to the airport. The lounge comes equipped with spacious bathrooms, towels, shampoo, lotion etc and were quite private. There is also an air conditioned sitting area with a television and a water cooler. The bathrooms were cleaned after every use, and fresh towels put out for new users. This service allowed us to enjoy the day to its fullest before heading to the airport.

We would certainly return to the Bourgainvillea Beach Resort because the staff were friendly and eager to please plus the resort is ideal for those long, lazy days by the beach!

Room Tip: Suites on upper floors allow for view of the sea and the beautiful hotel gardens. There are no eleva...

I have coming here as a guest and also booked many clients as a travel agent. Everyone leaves Bougainvillea. The staff are truly the most friendly on the island and guests feel like family due to their Manager, Sharon. The rooms are huge and spic-and-span clean. We had an issue with a leak from the heavy rain which was addressed by the maintenance person less then an hour after notifying the front desk. The beach is massive and plenty of chairs so you never have get up at the crack of dawn to save one. The surf can be a bit rough but not everyday or all day and there is plenty of shade trees lining the beach. This is the perfect hotel for families with a full kitchen. The dinner food was quite good and affordable by Barbados and resort food standards. There is some moderate night life however St. Lawrence Gap with numerous restaurants and clubs are only a few minutes away by cab or bus. Also the property is very close to Oistens Village where they have the weekly fish fry with live bands. There are numerous hotels in Barbados in which I have stayed at many but you will not find any staff more warm and accommodating then Bougainvillea.

Room Tip: There are no elevators so anyone with climbing challenges should ask for a ground level room.
