“A beautiful autumn break”
Reviewed November 4, 2013 via mobile

We have just experienced a wonderful fortnight at the Bougainvillea. The staff are excellent, the resort clean and tidy although some renovation work is in progress but not intrusive. The beach is perfect, not crowded and generally clean and perfectly located 50m from the resort. The gym is excellently equipped. The rooms are spacious and always clean. We love it and will return.

Today is our last day on the island. We have stayed at the Bougainvillea on a number of our past visits. The reasons we like this property are numerous! The setting is lovely with waterways, pools, and swim-up bar, along with a beautiful stretch of beach. The rooms are spacious, particularly the suites, with a large common area, sofa sleeper, TV, DVD, (movies come in handy if you have a little rain), and internet access which is quite rapid. The kitchen is equipped with all the essentials including a stove and large refrigerator/freezer. One would be able to cook a nice meal with fresh fish from the docks. The bathrooms are a very good size with tub/shower combo. Plenty of hot water was available! Bedroom was also large with TV, safe, dresser, and comfortable King-sized bed. Our patio off the common area, gave us an ocean view, complete with lounge chair and table set. We were welcomed by a friendly, attentive staff, many remembering us from our past visits. There is an activity director who can arrange island adventures and help make your stay memorable. Barbados enjoys lots of sailing, fishing, island tours, and water sports. Don't miss the Mount Gay Rum Tour, it is very informative and well done. The hotel has a nice range of planned evening events. Lanterns is the hotel restaurant, which serves a very decent variety of island and mainland foods. The offerings are not gourmet, but well prepared. Servers are friendly and helpful but the kitchen is a bit slow. As we have tried other resorts on the island, we find Bougainvillea a superb value for your money. Oh, by the way there is also a laundry facility available on the property, which may be of help to families traveling with children or those of us who travel light. We have enjoyed traveling to many Caribbean islands, returning to Barbados since it offers such a wide range of activities. We were fortunate to find the Bougainvillea Resort, where we feel so comfortably at ease and all of our needs are always so graciously met! Almost forgot a most important feature. There is complimentary hospitality room available for early arrivals and or travelers with late flight itineraries. TV, lounge area, and showers are available, which certainly make transitioning so much more pleasant! Bon Voyage

Room Tip: We like the one bedroom penthouse suites, which are really a good value for money, compared to other...

We had two weeks here and is was heavenly.
The staff are fantastic the food is scrumptious and as a base for experiencing the island it is perfectly located.
Make sure you consider the Bougainvillea if you are travelling to Barbados you will not be disappointed.
To top it all we got to see and rescue turtles hatching on our last night!
If you are after a drink make sure you ask for the 'cockney spanish bajan'!

Attentive staff, lovely rooms with sea views and the beautiful Dover beach at your doorstep-what more could one ask for?
Upon arrival we were upgraded to the beautifully decorated honey moon suite with sea views and its own sunbathing deck and kitchenette.
The beach is just beautiful ( I know that Crane beach has won awards but that's if you like wild windy beaches- certainly not my cup of tea when I want to go swimming). Dover beach with its turquoise waters is perfect for swimming , snorkelling, jogging on the beach and watching amazing sunrises and sunsets.
This is the place to come for all ages, travelling alone, single women, couples, families you feel at home, safe and very well taken care off by its efficient staff.
Do visit Oistins fish market and try some fresh fish on a Friday evening and try some tender coconut straight from the shell. Don't forget to try the Bajan hot pepper sauce from the little store near the hotel.
Take a trip to Hole Town and visit the Orchid Gardens - simply beautiful! Don't forget to pack your camera.

This really is a great hotel and fantastic value for money. We were a little worried before we arrived, as the price we paid seemed a good deal lower than many other similar hotels, so it was always in the back of our mind - "What's wrong with the place!". We shouldn't have worried, as this is a truly wonderful hotel and consistently delivered above and beyond our expectations.

A few of things we wanted to know before we got there:

Getting there: Plenty of taxi's available at the airport. Approx cost $32BBD/$16US taking 10-15 minutes.

Rooms: We upgraded to a superior studio, as this came with a mini kitchen. This was perfect for what we needed and came with a large fridge freezer and a small electric hob (plus all the most used kitchen utensils) All rooms face out to the sea, so sitting on your balcony is a real joy. The rest of the room was very comfortable and spacious and the housekeepers kept it immaculately clean.

Beach: We read some reviews saying that the sea had quite large waves and having a four year old with us, this was of concern to us. Unfortunately, we did find that for half the time, the waves were large enough to keep less confident swimmers out of the water (including our son). Therefore, if you enjoy the sea having some small waves (like me) then this is great fun, but for small children and nervous swimmers, the sea may present a challenge.

Food: The restaurant on-site serves food of a very high standard. The prices in the restaurant seemed a little high, but when compared with outside it was competitively priced and to be honest, was much better than elsewhere of a similar price. On a few lazy occasions, we ordered room service and enjoyed food from the restaurant on our balcony!

Area: The immediate area the hotel is set within is very quiet, with just a tiny convenience store down the road. A few minutes walk away is one of the main coastal roads, where local buses can be caught, which will take you virtually anywhere on the island for just 60p one way!!! The livelier St Lawrence gap is just a short 10 minute walk down the beach, where an abundance of restaurants and bars can be found ($20BBD/$10US taxi ride from the hotel)

Staff: As most other reviewers have noted, the staff at the Bougainvillea are truly wonderful. The staff are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to make your holiday enjoyable and special.

Negatives: This hotel really has very little that needs to be improved. However, although the hotel gets full marks for installing wifi throughout the hotel (and accessible on the beach and by the pool) I found throughout the holiday the Internet speed to be so slow as to be unusable (i.e. 5 minutes to load the BBC homepage) or just plain unable to get any connection at all. (But hey, you don't go on holiday to Barbados to be on the Internet!) This problem seemed to subside on the last two days, so maybe the hotel sorted the issue out?! My only other minor gripe is that the children's food menu seems to have escaped the healthy food drive, as everything on it is "fast food" based and vegetables have been completely avoided.

My partner & I stayed here for 9 nights in August, and it was just perfect. I feel sad writing this because it reminds me how much I miss being there and want to go back!
Our room was absolutely wonderful with an incredible view straight out onto the beach and beautiful blue sea. We had a Junior Suite which has everything we needed, was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. When we arrived lovely bougainvillea flowers were placed in the bathroom, which was such a lovely touch. It was great having our own balcony and we spent lots of time there reading & relaxing together.
The pools and pool bar were perfect. We got sucked into happy hour a couple of times and lost the rest of the afternoon! I loved going in the pool at night especially. As several other reviewers have mentioned, the staff at the pool bar are great!
The area of beach in front of the resort is brilliant, there are sunloungers for guests to use, and you can get fresh beach towels and snorkles etc from the watersports desk. I never wanted to leave that beach, or the beautiful warm water of the sea.
We had buffet breakfast included in our stay, which was great, something slightly different everyday. Breakfast is served in the restaurant which literally sits on the beach. The view is fantastic, what a way to start the day each morning. I also really enjoyed seeing the cheeky birds occasionally swooping in when people weren't looking trying to get a sip of orange juice, or a crumb or croissant!
The staff were impeccable. All of the staff made our stay such a pleasant one, they are all super friendly, genuine and helpful. The resort is really family friendly, and had such a lovely, safe, relaxed atmosphere.
I was so sad on our last day there, I had loved it all so very much. The only way i could console myself was to reassure myself that we would definitely be back again. Simply perfect.
