The Hotel is nice and the rooms are really comfortable and clean.

I put my overal stay as average because I didn't feel the vacation feeling and the real vibes of Barbados. The hotel seems to be more of a retirement resort with a much older crowd.

My vacation entails visiting the capital and seeing the city and it is a bit far from Bridgetown. Also going to restaurants and the even the gap is a bit far from the hotel and taking a cab is pretty expensive.

Bougainvillea is a nice hotel if you are just going to get the caribbean sun and sea or read a book in this quiet get away.

Really sorry the hotel was not to your liking. We get a good mix of all age groups but we avoid late night entertainment as most people want to return to a quiet hotel. We do have live entertainment several nights per week.
Entertainment and restaurants are very close by, as The Gap where it all happens, is only 10 minutes drive and a $10 cab ride.
If you like a lot of action and don't mind very late night noise, then we recommend staying in the Gap itself.

We have just returned form a 1 week holiday in Barbados and it was simply amazing. The weather was great all week long, with lovely warm evenings (no jumpers required). The hotel was 15 mins away from the airport which was quite a relief after such a long flight. The deluxe suite we had was situated on the top floor in the new block. It was very nice indeed. In fact, we forgot we were in a hotel as it was so homely. The suites are well kitted out with all the facilities you are likely to need. The bedroom faced away form the beach and was therefore very quiet, yet you could always hear the beautiful sound of the waves at night. The rooms in the suite are all very spacious indeed and decorated to a high standard. We had dinner on the balcony a couple of times, which was very romantic.

The beach area is very clean with one of the nicest beaches we saw. The waves can be a bit much sometimes on this beach but the beach is very long, has fairy fine grain white sand, and never looked over-crowded. The west coast beaches tend to be a bit calmer but the sand wasn't as nice elsewhere.

The hotel is tucked away in a residential area and is generally very quiet. It is between the Gap and Oistins, so you can always go somewhere lively in the evenings if you want to. Entertainment-wise, I would recommend the following; Harbour Lights on a Mon/Wed for floor show and Oistins fish-fry on Friday night. Oistins turns into a big open-air disco with barbeques everywhere and market stalls at night. Friday is the busiest night as all the locals come out. Expect a long wait for food if you get there after 8pm. It's probably best not to go starving as some of the queues can take an hour!!

We also did a catamaran cruise on El Tigre which was sensational. They stop for snorkelling where you will see (and possibly touch) turtles. The fish are amazing and we also stopped to see an underwater shipwreck. The crew on El Tigre are so lovely. They seem to take great pride in their job and catamaran. The lunch provided was delicious. It was one of the highlights of our stay. Lobster Alive, in Bridgetown, is a great place to see the sunset and have fresh lobster. There is a tank at the back where you can go and pick out your lobster. The toilet facilities are pretty poor here and could really do with an update. You have to ask the waitress for a key to the toilet (she makes you wait or forgets, she did both the one time I asked) in front of all the other customers.

The public transport in Barbados is interesting. You can take yellow reggae buses (play reggae music on board), blue buses (no music), or mini-buses which have signs in the front window showing where they are heading to. If you sit at a bus-stop, the mini-buses will honk at you to see if you want to hop on board. Check to see how full they are, as they seem to keep piling people on-board regardless. If someone at the back needs to get off, you al have to get off to let them out! This can get a bit tedious, so I wouldn't recommend this option for long journeys but for shorter ones it was very convenient as they turn up every few minutes so you are rarely waiting too long for a bus. All of these options cost $2 barbadian dollars, regardless of how far you are travelling. Proper taxis are reasonably priced and as far as I am aware, you won't have to share these with randoms.

Barbados feels pretty safe, but I would avoid public transport late at night. Take a taxi. The roads around the hotel are difficult to walk on in places because of a lack of pavements. I would highly recommend this hotel and if we come back we are very likely to book here again.

Room Tip: Deluxe suite, high up. Choose new rooms.

We've stayed at Bougainvillea many times. It's awesome. That's why we keep coming back. Right on the Caribbean sea, beautiful swim-up pool bar, no kids allowed in this pool. Awesome food and bar service provided on the beach. Jose will fetch you whatever you want. Five minute walk down the beach to St. Lawrence Gap, many great restaurants.

Room Tip: If you get a room with two double beds, they will put it together to make it into a king for couple...

The beach here is absolutely georgous and makes up for everything I am about to write! The resort itself is very small. Maybe a bit too small for me. We stayed on the adults only side on a timeshare. We had a full view of the ocean and pool on this side. We preferred this side as it was more quiet and better view. Theres a smaller pool on this side with the added bonus of no children about.. Accommodations were o.k. The shower was horrible and the toilet sometimes didn't flush. Always had to ask for more toilet paper which was annoying. There were three of us and they would leave us one roll. LOL. The balcony was huge. This was nice to sit outside at night because thats all there is to do here at night. The food here was not good at all. We ate here twice and that was enough for us. We are not that picky either, but it was bad and expensive. Not worth doing an all inclusive if you are thinking of it. You will starve trust me. We were so glad we weren't. We made our own breakfast as we had a full kitchen, ate lunch at the lunch truck that came every day in the front of the resort which had local food choices and was cheap, and went to the St Lawrence Gap at night to eat. Only a 15 minute walk. The only other downside to this resort is that after dinner there is NOTHING to do. No entertainment nothing. Even the bar areas are empty. We were bored stiff. You have to go to the Gap for anything. If you are looking for peace and relaxation and go to bed at 7pm its a good place. If you are like me and sometimes want to socailize even a bit you are better off at a larger resort with some sort of entertainment or stay closer to the Gap. If you like the quiet and just the beach its a decent enough place. All in all we had a fun time. Recommend renting a car for the day or two. Was inexpensive and we drove to Bathsheba to watch the surfers and loved it. We also stopped at the grocery store to fill up on food for the week. There's also a little store with alcohol and snacks and basics just a one minute walk away. Would I stay here again? Yes if the rate was great, but I'd prefer something a little less borring so I wouldnt have to go off resort as much as we did.

Thanks for posting your review. From your description, it seems we may not have been exactly what you were looking for. We appreciate that different things appeal to different people and some will prefer the large, all-inclusive type hotels with late night entertainment – this is not us. However, we currently offer entertainment 6 times a week including duos, live bands, a dinner show and movie night. For those seeking the nightclub or bar scene, as you suggested, St. Lawrence Gap is a good option and just 5 minutes away by taxi.

We are sorry that you didn’t enjoy your meals. We have been receiving great feedback on our food so this is a bit of a surprise. That said, one of the wonderful things about Bougainvillea is the flexibility. While you can dine in our two restaurants, as you pointed out, having kitchens in all rooms also give the option of doing your own thing or even having a special “Bajan” meal prepared for you in the comfort of your suite. There is also amazing food on the island and we hope that our guests can experience all that Barbados has to offer.

We encourage our guests to bring any maintenance issues to our attention and we try to quickly resolve so that they do not detract from your vacation. Your feedback on the “roll” will definitely be passed on to our Housekeeping department and we are sure to resolve before your next visit!

The rooms are perfectly fine, the beach is incredible and the staff is very friendly. Not having the room ready on a Wed. until after 4pm was a little bit of a bummer and there seem to be an excessive amount of rules and signs everywhere were negatives for me. This was the first time I've ever seen a hotel put a $100 charge on a room that we have to work to remove by proving that we have returned 4 beach towels. On the plus side, the food is great, the beach is fantastic and the staff is all smiles. If you are looking for a 5 star experience, this isn't it, but it does attract a lot of repeat clients and it seemed homey and comfortable after a couple of days.

Thank you for your review! We appreciate your feedback and are very happy that you enjoyed our rooms, the food at our restaurants, our staff and of course, our beach, which we think is incredible too! Our aim has always been to be more than just a place to sleep in Barbados – we do want to be a home away from home and our many repeat guests are a testimony to that.

Our check-in time is 4 pm and if we were unable to meet this time when you arrived, we offer our sincere apologies as we do understand how important it is to have quick access to your room. Please be assured that any delay would have been due to an exceptional circumstance and we endeavor to have rooms ready as early as possible.

Thank you also for your feedback on rules and signage. Some are legal requirements – necessary for us to operate, but ultimately, all are in place for the safety and comfort of our guests. Understandably, on an individual basis, a particular rule might seem unnecessary but they are only in place to allow us to provide the level of service, safety and quality that our guests expect and deserve.

We hope to see you again soon!

The rooms were lovely, the beach amazing. This is locally run and has a lovely caribbean vibe. We were a party of 8 and really enjoyed it.

The food was really lovely...........but the service is sooooooooo slow. You get used to it after a couple of days, but at first its annoying.

There is an air-conditioned kids play room but we didn't use it much.

Christmas day was fantastic and the nightly entertainment excellent. Our kids ran in and out of the beachfront restaurant to dance between courses.
