My self my husband and my daughter stayed at Bougainvillea beach resort september this year. I have to say what a wonderful place it was . Our one bedroom appartment was spacious clean and very comfortable. The views from our balconies were second to noneT he ammenites were very good, although i was on holiday i still managed to get four loads of washing done. The swimming pools were very clean and my 22 month old daughter insisted on going for a dip twice a day every day. the staff were very courteous and friendly, we will definately consider comng back again and we will definaely be recommend this resort to our fiends. Truly paradise.. Wendy, Barry & Jasmine. Coventry, England, UK.

Bougainvillea Beach Resort was everything we expected and more Great room overlooking the pool and the ocean Staff excellent. Beach well not a long walk to the end due to break waters but the beach its self perfect. Very little construction next door infact unless you were loking for it I saw nothing and heard nothing. Take the breakfast plan lots of choice and served on the beach. Go out for dinner at the Gap lots of choices. You can walk to the Gap via the beach but I wouldn't at night, not that there is a problem but more to make sure there would not be one. Besides a taxi is 7US big deal. Take the Cat cruise from Bridgetown and see the turtles great way to spend a day. Rent a car and go to Bathseheba spectacular!!! As I said the hotel was great we had second floor overlooking the poolbar and beach Room clean and modern although fresh paint might be a thought Bathroom big enough to hold a party in. Kitchen..... yes a kitchen with hot plate fridge and sink dishes etc they even do your dishes (with in reason. If you want an experience ask the bell captain about the lunch truck that comes a round check out the food. We bought lunch and had enough for 2 days and it was great the first day and better as left overs (no kidding)... and very safe no worries here. If in doubt about this hotel don't be if you don't stay here you are probably missing one of the few quaint hotels left on the island as all the others seem to be being built onn the main street. Enjoy we did and we are fussy!

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Barbados and St Lucia. We had read the reports re the Bourgainvillea before booking and found them to be pretty accurate. Our suite was superb with masses of room for the two of us. This was very much like a self catering apartment and would be ideal for families to stay in. It was very clean, extremely well equipped and a great place to stay. The staff were very friendly and welcoming although we found one of two of the breakfast staff rather sour. It was great to be able to get up at 6.30am and go for a swim in the sea before breakfast! Apart from the buffet breakfast, the food was rather poor. If you are booking through a travel agent do not book meal packages in advance. We pre-booked for what we thought was the full breakfast (£9) and found that it did not cover the cost and had to pay another £2 pp per day for the buffett breakfast. The menu price for this was £8!! We only ate in the Lanterns restaurant once and did not try The Water's Edge after talking to other guests. However there was plenty of good eateries around. One was the 'food van' that visited outside of the hotel every lunchtime - well worth trying, good food and very cheap. Pisces Restaurant at St Lawrence Gap was excellent as was the Oistins Fish Fry which operates Mon-Sat. We were advised not to go on a Friday as it gets very crowded with very long queues for food. We also booked, via the hotel, a catamaran cruise on Cool Runnings II. Wow - what an experience. The crew looked after us so well it was exceptional. Lunch was excellent and the whole day was great fun. As a very poor swimmer I wasn't going to go in the sea but one of the crew took me into the water and towed me along on a boyancy aid and although I didn't snorkel I was in the water where the turtles were which was a great experience. The Bourgainvillea is a wonderful place to stay a great base for touring around the island and a great place to just chill out and relax.

Okay, if you're interested in the barman's name, where he's from, what all the staff are called, then you will probably find all the other reviews accurate. I am not really interested in this; I just want to know that he can mix me up the right cocktail and teh hotel is going to be a winner. It's not a bad place and if you haven't stayed in many hotels, you will love it.

The good points are:

The beach
The rooms
The standard of servicing of the rooms

Not so good points:

The restaurants
The lack of a bar / area to relax in before you go out
The pool bar
Some of the guests

In short, if you have never been to Barbados before and you don't leave the hotel, or want to try any of the restaurants and other hotels on the island, you will love BV. If you plan to do more dining (other than an all inclusive package) stay on the west coast. It is worth the extra few £££'s. Beaches, however, are far better in the south, but hotels and facilities superior on the west

Do visit:

The Cliff
Daphne's
Lone Star
Pisces
Cafe Sol
Champers
The Lucky Horseshoe, to gamble
Harbour Lights

Don't bother with:

Any hotel buffet
Dinner at Bou Vil
The Lucky Horseshoe, to eat
The Ship Inn

And whatever you do, don't even contemplate flying with XL, unless you can't afford it by any other possible means - it has to win the award for the worst flight in existence, making Monarch look like a luxury carrier. It really is 10 hours of hell (yes 10, they tell you it's direct, but goes via St Lucia, adding on a further painful and agonising 2 hours - wouldn't have mattered so much if it was Virgin or BA)

Just returned from a 10 day holiday from 18th - 28th October 2007 at the Bougainvillea Resort, Barbados.

The Weather: At this time of year expect mixed weather as it is the end of the rainy season, for much of the time it was very cloudy, in fact we had 2 days of solid cloud. Also expect it to rain heavily each day, mostly at night, but the showers during the day were short but sharp and we were soon back on the beach. Beware of the clouds though you still tan very easily through them and although we didnt have one single day of solid sunshine we are perhaps the brownest we have ever been, and I like a good sun tan!

The Hotel - rooms are comfortable, this is the Carribbean after all, we had a 1 bedroom suite with kitchenette, it was large and spaceous, there were 3 of us. We also benefited from 2 balconies with tables and chairs and sun loungers. The rooms are spotlessly clean. We pre-ordered a grocery pack before arrival for breakfast purposes only and I can highly recommend this, I estimated that it saved us over $100 BDS per day, which mounts up very quickly. The grounds of the hotel are immaculate with lovely garden areas, we found the beaches to be quite clean and sun beds are plentiful, no need for a towel dash in the mornings!, you can change your beach towels each day at the watersports hut. All non-motorised watersport equipment i.e. boogie boards are free to hire. As the waves are quite large on the South Coast there is lots of fun to be had with these, but there are no lifeguards on duty so you need to take care. We only ate lunch at Lanterns, the food is good plenty of choice, but the service is dire, one day we waited for an hour to get 2 starters!

The Gap - One negative is about the location of the hotel, there is no where within short walking distance, you either need to hire a car, take the bus or taxi to get around. The Gap we thought was a bit disappointing, there are no shops there other than the street stalls selling souveniers, there are numerous restuarants and a few bars. I can recommend the following - Pisces - probably the best restaurant and most expensive, but the food is excellent and the setting is lovely, expect to pay around $450BDS (£120)for 3 courses with a bottle of wine for 3 people. Cafe Sol - good mexican restaurant, lots of choice and reasonable price around $220BDS (£60) for 2 courses and drinks for 3. Davids Place - Barbadian cusine, very nice food but lacks atmosphere was very empty when we ate there, also expect to pay around the same prices as Pisces. Bellini - italian food, good and reasonably priced around the same sort of prices as Cafe Sol.

Hire a Car - we hired a car for 4 days (4 for the price of 3 with Virgin Hols), we mainly visited Bridgetown which was disappointing, full of diamond shops and cruise ship tourists, the place is quite shabby and all of the shops seem very old fashioned. I can recommend a trip up the west coast, we were very taken with the Holetown area and would probably stay there if we visit Barbados again as there are lots of shops and everything appears to be more easily reached.

Bajan Rythym and Roots evening - enjoyable and fun, free flowing booze and good Bajan cooking we had a great time.

All in all a good holiday, time to relax and unwind, and good food. Would I visit the Bougainvillea again?, maybe not simply because of the location and no other reason.

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful stay at the Bogainvillea Resort! We arrived a little early, so they stored our luggage and offered us use of the complimentary guest lounge as well as gave us complimentary drink coupons. The room was then promptly available and we were escorted to a large, clean room with an AMAZING view of the beach...what an unexpected surprise as we booked through a website at a discounted rate and were expecting the"garden/parking lot" view! The decor is a little dated, but was not of much importance to us. A/C was great, bathroom was large with amenities and lots of fresh towels, nice balcony with table and chairs, and we had a kitchenette. Staff was very friendly and restaurants on site were good. we had two minor maintenance issues, which were addressed Immediately upon notification. Beach area was great, not very crowded. Water was rough compared to Caribbean but not at all rough if you are used to atlantic or Pacific waters. Not much hassle from beach vendors...will generally leave you alone with a "no thank you" and resort has security. Do need to take a cab to any nightlife, other restaurants, shops. Cabs are cheap by American standards and drivers very friendly and trustworthy with clean cars. Was easy to hire a private driver as well to tour the island and actually was cheaper than most of the large tours that are offered. Ate at both Restaurant at Southsea and The Cliff...AMAZING food and service! All in all, had a great time and would definitely recommend BBR as a very nice 3-4 star place to stay. It exceeded our expectations!
